Welcome to the Miner Cottage, a restored 1892 miner's cottage located just two blocks from historic downtown Idaho Springs.
The Miner Cottage features all the comforts of home, including electricity, running water and indoor plumbing. In other words, it's been updated, but not too updated.
The living room has two leather couches, a large leather hassock, and the famous reclining fish chair, all perfect for your doggie to stretch out on for a nice nap. Did we mention it's dog-friendly? There's also a wood-burning stove to keep you warm and toasty on those cold mountain nights.
The main bedroom is right off the living room and features a queen size bed with pillow-top mattress cover. The second bedroom, located off the kitchen, has a unique bunk bed, with a full-size bed on the bottom and a twin bed on top.
Don't feel like sampling the wares at any of Idaho Springs' fine eateries? You're in luck, because the modern updated kitchen has a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and a full set of pots, pans, dishes and silverware. There's also a gas grill in the backyard.
The bathroom is indoors (none of that corncob nonsense on this vacation!), with a full-size washer/dryer, toilet, full bath/shower, soap, towels, hair dryer and assorted toiletries. It's also been updated with a new sink and toilet, and we lowered the floor eight inches back to its original height.
For your entertaining pleasure, the cottage has a 42-inch flat screen HDTV, cable, Wi-Fi, DVD player, games, books and movies. There's also a fenced back area with a deck and patio set.
The Miner Cottage is SMOKE-FREE, but also DOG FRIENDLY. Best of all, it's AFFORDABLE, with rates starting at just $105/night, with a $75 cleaning fee and $200 refundable deposit. However, if you smoke anything in the house (tobacco or marijuana), you WILL lose your deposit.
We both grew up in the midwest (Ohio and Indiana), but always knew we wanted to live in the mountains. After nine years in Colorado Springs, we moved to Denver, and a few months later bough the Miner Cottage. (We live in Omaha now, but it's only eight hours away, so we're still up here quite a bit.) We're huge dog lovers, and we always had a hard time finding places we could take our dogs on vacation with us. That's why we tried to make our vacation home as dog-friendly as possible, with furniture they can play on and a little back area that's great for them to poop on.
Larry Hinkle purchased this cottage in 2011
We love Colorado, and we love the outdoors, but we all also love the trappings of civilization. You get both at the Miner Cottage: you're right in town, but you're also only a couple minutes away from the Great Outdoors. Being a couple blocks walk from a yummy brewpub is also a huge plus. The chance to bring a 120-year-old house back to life was an interesting challenge as well.
You can't beat the location. Two-blocks from historic downtown Idaho Springs, and a couple minutes from I-70, means you're close to everything. And it's dog-friendly, which makes every vacation more fun.
I could not have imagined on first reserving the Miner Cottage how much we would enjoy our stay here. What a beautiful home and much-needed escape for us (and the pups) this turned out to be. Can you ask for more than fresh snow, a growler from Tommyknockers, a warm fire and Scrabble? Thank you so much and we hope to visit again soon!
Very clean, very comfortable, and in a fabulous location. I really enjoyed my stay! The kitchen is fully furnished and easy to cook in. I hope to get to stay again.
Great little house to stay for a ski trip or getaway. Neighborhood past the immediate street has great shops and restaurants. Owners provide everything for an easy stay. Super dog friendly!
We had a great time staying in this little cottage. We stayed here with another couple and it worked well for us. And Idaho Springs has a lot to offer in this little town. There is several really good places to eat within walking distance. We rented out ski from the ski shop down the road. We then went skiing at Loveland.
Really enjoyed the stay in this Miner's Cottage in Idaho Springs. We stayed at the cottage while we skied for a couple days. The cottage was kept up very nicely, had all of the necessary amenities including a grill on the back deck (although we decided to eat pizza in town instead. :)). There were also a few books, board games and dvd's for us to enjoy.
We liked the walking distance to get into town as we walked down to the local gas station for some firewood and some ice cream. While many places are pet friendly, this cottage is pet encouraging--the owners love dogs and want you to enjoy having your dogs with you. We brought our 2 pups and were asked to send a picture for the cottage photo album.
Larry was very easy to deal with and very responsive. The price of this cottage is well within reason and a perfect place to stay to make the trip up to the mountains easier/shorter in the morning. Looking forward to staying at the cottage again!
This cottage is a great place to stay when traveling with dogs. The owner over accommodates the renter with pet friendly accessories. You can tell that they have traveled with pets frequently. It is also great to be just a couple of blocks from downtown Idaho Springs, which has plenty of restaurants to choose from. This is our second time staying at the cottage and would again.
We have stayed twice here and both times were very enjoyable! We are snowboards so its a quick trip to Loveland ski from here. Idaho springs is a beautiful little town with lots of shops and restaurants, Tommy knockers being one of our favorites.. Thanks again for the stay and we'll probably see you again!
You're right in the heart of Clear Creek County, so you're close to tons of great fun for the entire family. Skiing, snowboarding, whitewater rafting, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, shopping, history, scenic drives, wildlife viewing, great restaurants, a phenomenal local microbrewery, fishing (ponds and creeks), a glacier, a gold mine, and pretty much the best of everything Colorado has to offer. Idaho Springs now has a few dispensaries. However, the Miner Cottage is a NON-SMOKING facility.
