Not impressed. It was clean but dated. Comfort is

Wasn't up to expectations. Both mattresses felt like army cots. Dated fridge with no water filter. Hardly any counter space. Squeaky doors and bathroom cabinet. No expanded cable so could not watch the Cubs and we're from Chicago! Couch in LR hard. Nest rented and could hear water running. Inadequate supply of towels for 2 people. Was told to do laundry. Pool on Website looks like it's behind the house when actually it's next door. Do it again? No thanks.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate that these guests chose to stay at our cottage, when they clearly would have been more comfortable in a hotel with daily housekeeping services (and an unlimited supply of fresh towels) or a standalone luxury home with a gourmet kitchen, rather than a shared cottage with a country kitchen. The cottage is exactly as described and portrayed in our listing, which clearly shows that the kitchen has an L-shaped counter that runs the length of 2 walls (more than adequate for most people). The fridge is "dated" to 2012 (relatively new), and we do not claim or indicate in our listing that it has filtered water. On the other hand, town water is fresh and certainly drinkable (and we also provide a Britta pitcher). The mattress on the bed is new (medium firmness), and the fold-out couch is a high-end "Comfort Sleeper" by American Leather, which features a high-density foam mattress on a folding platform that provides even support (no bars, no springs, no sagging). After making a considerable investment in top-of-the-line beds, it is quite a shock to read that they are like "army cots" ~ especially since previous guests have commented on how comfortable they are! The cottage is located on the same property as the owner's house, and the pool in the backyard is shared by both. Our listing states that the pool is reserved for the exclusive use of Nook/Nest guests from 11:00 AM-6:00 PM daily. And speaking of sharing, the listing also makes it clear that there are 2 rentals in the cottage: the Nook on the first floor, and the Nest on the second floor. Most people understand that this means that they might occasionally hear house noises related to the other unit. We are sorry that all of these points about the cottage came as a surprise to these guests, in spite of our effort to be accurate and clear. Lastly, I also want to point out that when these guests requested fresh towels on their second day, we swapped out the used towels and provided 4 new sets, but also gently reminded them that (unlike hotels or B&Bs) vacation rentals are considered "self-serve" accommodations, just like one's own home. As such, one is welcome to use the washer/dryer to do laundry, including washing/drying towels as needed. Obviously this fact also came as a surprise to these guests. Clearly they are more accustomed to and comfortable with the amenities and services that are provided by hotels, and perhaps they would be happier staying in hotels in the future.

Wonderful weekend in Woodstock

  • 5 of 5

Let me tell you about the Nook...what adjectives can I use..classic, comfortable, cozy, and most of all clean, the pictures of the cottage are beautiful but it"s even nicer in person. It's amazing I can even tell you so much about the house being that I spent most of the time outside barbecuing and lounging in the wonderful warm saltwater pool. Even though the home seems so quiet and secluded you're only a 5 minute walk into town where there is plenty to do..restaurants, shops, live music, flea markets (if you can get out of the house). My man Dennis is a very gracious host. The only down side is I have to wait all the way until next summer before I can get back...P.S. if you don't want to take the 2 hour drive from the city there is a bus that will bring you up here right into town.

Thank You For Everything

Fantastic hideaway within walking distance of town

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a magical weekend here. My friend joined and won the coin toss for the bedroom - have to say, I really won... It feels like a real bed, super comfy, firm with a nice plush pillow top for snuggle factor. Bravo! You don't have to fight it either, it pulls out and slips back with great ease.

Everything else was as superb as ever and I devoured the hand made chocolate left for us!

Can't wait for my next trip.

Perfect weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent the long weekend at the Nook and had a wonderful time. The cottage is adorable, very comfortable, peaceful, and equipped with everything you need for a relaxing visit. The pool is a great plus--it was perfect for cooling off after exploring Woodstock. You don't need a car--it is a 5 min walk to the main street and the bus stop for NYC. I will definitely return, and highly recommend the Nook.

Cozy and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Nook. Cozy, clean and comfortable. Great location, close to town but on a pretty, quiet street. I can't say enough about how nice and helpful Denis the owner is. Want to come back when the pools open.
