Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

In a quiet, unassuming, neighborhood in the Santa Catalina Foothills lies a small jewel of a home. One of the Southwest's leading interior designers created this as her own residence and lived here for more than a decade. The home has been featured on the Tucson 'Opera Dames' home tour and in the Tucson Lifestyle Magazine. Recently totally refurbished, this beautiful property is now available for vacation rental.

Though only 1600 square feet, the clever design makes the house seem larger. Using the concept of a New York loft apartment as the inspiration, the master bedroom is separated from the living areas by a travertine and mirror, dual-sided, fireplace. To one side of the master bedroom area is a bathroom featuring a large, walk-in shower. To the other side is a small sitting alcove with floor to ceiling views into a natural desert orroyo. Here, it is not unusual to see members of the desert wild community - gambel quail, cardinals, javelina, and bob-cats - as one sips morning coffee. Adjacent, is an enormous walk-in closet.

A well designed compact kitchen features black granite counters, European, whisper-quiet dishwasher and integrated smooth top oven. The great room contains a formal sitting area features two comfortable down-filled couches in front of the fire place, while on the opposite wall a 42 inch flat screenTV is set up with cable, DVD, CD, and am/fm radio. A library of videos and music is provided. Adjacent to the front entry way is a dining area and, beyond this, a smaller seating area for relaxing with a drink and a book. This area also contains a desk, space for a lap top for those vacationers who just cannot leave work behind. An additional bedroom with full-size bed suitable for overnight guests is off this seating area. A second full bath is accessed both from this room and the living areas.

A private outdoor courtyard can be reached from both the living and guest rooms. Again, clever design turns a small area into a relaxing outdoor retreat; a soothing fountain runs down rocks, a metal sculpture echoes the many armed saguaro cactus on the adjacent hills and the area is bathed in sunlight much of the day.

Despite the peace and serenity of the location, within five minutes walk is a comprehensive shopping center with supermarket, drug store, two speciality bakeries, three dry cleaners, and eight restaurants! Within a five mile radius lie some of the southwest’s most prestigious resorts each with their signature five star restaurants; Loew’s Ventana Canyon is a mile away to the north, the Westin La Paloma Resort is less than four miles away to the west. For the nature lover, the famous Sabino Canyon recreation area is just a mile away to the east. Here, trails into the Catalina State Park range from easy to challenging. For the golfer, the famous Trent designed Ventana Country Club 36 hole course is literally just up the road.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We don't want to leave! What a wonderful home to come to after a day of hiking or exploring. What a wonderful place to hang out in on the days we needed to rest. You gave us great advice on where to shop, where to eat. The kitchen was nicely appointed and perfect for us to cook in. We really don't want to leave.

Remarkable accommodations. Owner has thought of everything! Beautiful location.

This house is located in a quiet neighborhood very close to the Sabino Canyon Recreation area in a beautiful part of Tucson. There is absolutely nothing missing in this home, from beautiful views, to large, open living areas, to a completely outfitted kitchen, to a huge wardrobe room, to spacious and bright bathrooms, to a collection of DVDs, musical CDs, games, comfortable furniture, a thoughtful and interesting collection of books and magazines, a lovely rose covered private patio that runs the length of the house with outdoor seating, gas grill and fire pit area. There is a shiney artistic bar area within the house and the artifacts and decor really reflect the elegant simplicity of the desert. The property owners could not have been more welcoming, interesting and kind. It is hard to imagine a more comfortable, clean, spacious and elegant homebase anywhere. You will not be disappointed! It is a very special find!

Amazing and Private

  • 5 of 5

My Husband and I recently rented this lovely home for two weeks this March. We were thrilled with both the location of the property and the privacy. The home is beautiful. The views from the windows are of the mountain side. We felt like we were out in the country. Quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed the private patio. Being hikers, we were very happy that Sabino Canyon was only one mile from our rental. Enjoyed every minute of our stay. Owners are wonderful. We are definitely going to rent this property again. I highly recommend this rental.

Exceeds all expectations

  • 5 of 5

If the pictures of this wonderful retreat don't say it all then a stay here will. We were blown away by the sophisticated but practical interior design of this beautiful home. Everything was provided and no detail was missed. The huge walk in closet, modern kitchen and secluded outdoor patio make Chez Rochelle the most comfortable experience you can imagine the moment you walk in the door. Shopping is close by and Sabino Canyon Park is 5 minutes away. We will recommend Chez Rochelle to everyone we know and we will be back to enjoy its warmth and comfort for many years to come.

Nice home with all the necessities

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights in June and found the home to have everything necessary for our stay. Good location near Sabino Canyon, nice size rooms and very comfortable. We will definitely stay here on our next trip to Tucson.

Peaceful elegance

  • 5 of 5

Unlike any vacation home we've ever stayed in. We chose this place for a month and haven't regretted one moment. The owners, Miles & Suzie, are gracious and helpful and eager to ensure that you take advantage of everything there is to do and see. They provide activity passes, grocery discount cards and above all, privacy to "do your thing!" They even greeted us with Fresh fruit to welcome us to our home of 30 days. The Sabino Canyon area is terrific and home to many "critters". We even had a Bobcat stop by and peer in the window on his regular trip thru the community. If you enjoy wildlife, small lizards, quail, Javalinas etc. you'll love it here.

The pool is a 2 minute walk and seldom busy.

We'll be planning a return trip.

"villa in the foothills"

  • 5 of 5

This was our fifth trip to Tucson but our first stay at this most lovely getaway in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains. Everything you could ask for at your fingertips. Susie and Miles are there for you if you need anything and they are most charming to deal with. We already miss the morning parade of quail, hummingbirds and lizards. Sabino Canyon up the road and all shopping amenities close by. This home is Manhattan in the desert, sophisticated, sexy, secluded and really cannot be outdone. From the fully stocked kitchen to the linens to the thoughtful fruit tray that awaits your arrival we really cannot wait to return.
