About Karen Robinson

I was born and raised in Victoria and moved to the Comox Valley in 1994. I retired from the RCMP as a 911 Operator & Police Dispatcher in 2010. Prior to that I was a ski instructor on Mt Washington Alpine Resort. Speaking other languages has been a lifelong goal of mine and I've always loved meeting people from both Canada and abroad. Whenever I have traveled, locals have always treated me wonderfully and welcomed me into their lives. This inspired me to 'pay it forward'. It seemed only natural to have my own vacation rental so I could meet and help other vacationers enjoy their holiday in the Comox Valley.

Karen Robinson purchased this apartment in 2011

Why Karen Robinson chose Comox Valley

The Roost, part of The Perch on Birch, is located on one of my favourite lanes in Comox. With the Comox Golf Course located at the end of the road leading to a lovely foot path and the many fauna that make Birch Ave their home, this location is somewhat of a haven. I have always made a point of passing by this property on my walks since 2003, each time thinking it would make a great rental property. When the property came up for sale in 2011, I did not hesitate to purchase it. After much hard work, my dream of converting two of the units into beautiful vacation rentals has been realized. The gardens are now looking beautiful as I continue to transform this once neglected property into a lovely Comox gem.

What makes this apartment unique

Although Comox Vallley is not a large city, it boasts some of the finest restaurants offering many delicious cuisines. Having several of these restaurants in walking distance makes for a wonderful outing while staying at The Roost at The Perch on Birch.

The Comox Airforce Base is used by the famous Snowbirds every April. Some of their incredible patterns can be viewed right from the rental property. This is the perfect place to stay during Vancouver Island Music Festival held every July as you are steps away from the bus stop and a few minutes drive to the shuttle bus parking lot.

The annual Filberg Festival and Comox Nautical Days held every August long weekend (BC Day) are just a few blocks away. This makes it ideal for guests to enjoy the festivities in a carefree manner with hassle-free parking.

A most fabulous place to stay. Wonderful accomodation and perfect hostess.

  • 5 of 5

The location was central, the accomodation was spotless and stocked with the basics. The washer and dryer made life easy. The gardens were beautiful and the bed was to die for!!!

We could not have asked for a more perfect setting. Plus the neighbours are friendly.

Great location, very relaxing unit and neighbourhood.

  • 5 of 5

Very nice apartment unit. Easy to find, quiet, friendly neighbourhood. Short drive from airport, and short walk to the waterfront/cute coffee shops. Relaxing backyard views can be seen from all large unit windows. We were curious about the back lane entrance, however when we saw it, it is just as spacious and beautiful as a front street, nothing like our back lanes at home (looking now at the rental page, it has a picture of the lane, we must have missed it).The unit itself is equipped with anything needed. Unlike other rentals we have used, it has ample cups, utensils, towels etc. We had stayed for a quick 2 night visit, however would strongly encourage the use of this unit for long term (or short term) stays. It was incredibly easy to cozy into. We fall into the late 20's age group, and wouldn't hesitate having our parents in their early 70's stay here as well. There are very simple instructions for use, and the host is very friendly and inviting. Overall we highly recommend The Roost for a stay in Comox, and would book it again.

Owner's Response: L & B, Thank you very much for your amazing review of my property, your compliments, and your high recommendation. I really appreciate you went into great detail about all the things you like about The Roost , even the lane entrance & parking. I try to think of everything a guest might need for their home away from home and I am so glad you appreciated it all. I hope you can come back again and please stay longer!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This property is a little piece of heaven. It is located on a very quiet residential street in Comox within walking distance to restaurants, beach and grocery store. The apartment has absolutely everything to make your stay comfortable. From kitchen & bathroom necessities, to bath robes and slippers, to games and puzzles or just lounging in muskoka chairs overlooking Karen's beautiful gardens. It is spotless and looks brand new inside. Karen is an amazing host and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. I would highly recommend this property and would return in a heartbeat if ever in that area again. It is beautiful. Thanks again Karen!

All of Karen's restaurant suggestions were amazing. Atlas Cafe, Avenue, Blackfin Pub and Rocky Mountain Cafe.

Owner's Response: I feel honoured to receive your outstanding review Kerri. It was a real pleasure to have you and your family as guests in both of my units, The Roost and The Perch. It is my aim to make sure my guests have everything they might need for a perfect getaway and I am happy to hear you appreciated it. I am glad you found everything to be spotless and in spite of the weather, you could enjoy the gardens. I hope you will come back again. Especially when my gardens are in full bloom and the weather is more cooperative!! Thank you very much Kerri!

The Roost was great...

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a weekend away for some adventure fun and the Roost provided a nice little 'base camp' for our activities. Although we did not get to meet Karen in person, she ensured the directions to access the property were clear. It was clean and comfortable. Thanks for a great little weekend away, Michelle and Kris.
