Guestbook comments from the manager

I loved my stay at River’s Edge and would recommend it to a family for a great vacation. The town of Cuchara is so quaint and the people are very friendly. Two good places to eat in town.

Great place for a large family gathering.

  • 4 of 5

The house is in a good location. In some of the bedrooms, the windows can be opened to hear the sound of the river, and enjoy the cool air, all night. (July vacation) Plenty of room for our large group. The kids had a great time. The little town of Cuchara is so cute, and the older kids were able to go to the stores by themselves with a few dollars, and have fun. Mini-golf right across the street. Very good kitchen. The house is not perfectly wheelchair accessible--if you are concerned about that, you should discuss it with the owner (who was very easy to contact.) Nice firepit outside for S'mores. Pretty easy drive from Texas.

Location was great

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location and the size of the house for our group and the purpose of our stay, which was a wedding. The deck and firepit by the river was constantly calling our name. This home has an attached apartment with one bathroom and 2 bedrooms. The apartment is very old, I'm talking very old building. While unique and charming, It lacks some of the modern day features, like electrical outlets and switches to turn on lights. The lights are turnd on by a chain that you pull....see, old but unique. The worst thing in the arpartment was that the mirrors are so old that they are cloudy. And with the already poor lighting, putting on makeup was a challenge! This apartment is only 2 steps up from the main floor. The bathroom was small and there was no counter space in the bathroom, however they did have 2 desk/makeup tables in the living areas. Tub/shower combo. In the main section of the house, it is more up to date. All of the bedrooms did not have a private bath. For those that cann't do stairs, the main level has 2 nice bedrooms that share a bathroom. Upstairs, had 2 nice bedrooms that have private bathrooms. Upstairs also had a bedroom that had a set of steps that led to a private loft which had 2 beds. The loft and it's attached bedroom shared a unusal bathroom. This bathroom had the shower behind one door on the left of the steps to the loft. And behind a door on the right was the toilet and sink.

The home did not have hair dryers, at least we did not find any. We did not take hairdryers, so getting ready for the wedding was stressful! Management brought two hairdryers the next day, but was to late for us.

While looking out the window in the apartment about 4:40 AM, a fox walked past the window on the sidewalk. This town is great!

Owner's Response: I hope your family wedding was fantastic. I apologize to you for not having a hairdryer in the house. Honestly people take them and we sometimes the cleaning staff oversee if they are all missing. I realize this was very stressful. The cabin/apartment was built in the 20s and for an old cabin it is clean an charming. This was a time before people had to have big bathrooms and were happy to have moved from the outhouse, to indoor plumbing. We have chose to keep the old mirrors in the living room and bedroom. They are surrounded with rope and have a look we like. These mirrors have pull chain lights above them. I personally hung two new mirrors in the bathroom a few years ago, so seeing your self clear is no problem in the bathroom. The modern addition was built to be a bed and breakfast and the owner lived in the attached cabin for years. We now operate it as a vacation rental and people love it and build lasting memories here at River's Edge.

Our vacation on Cuchara River property worked out great.

  • 5 of 5

The home was close to the Village of Cuchara, but seemed like it was secluded. Our family loved it. The set up was well thought out with two sitting areas, which allowed us to separate the big kids from the babies. The two Kitchens also allowed great flexibility. The arrangement of the bathrooms and bedrooms worked well with a larger group. Our 10 adults and 8 children ages 1-8 really enjoyed our stay we would recommend this location for families. Larissa was great to work with and everything was as presented. The house was decorated for the Christmas season and gave it a great feel for our holiday stay. Our deposit was refunded promptly and we were treated very fairly.
