About Scott Dugas & Laura Wilkinson
I grew up in Yarmouth, ME and on Casco Bay. My family started and still owns a boat yard on the Royal River in Yarmouth. My parents, brothers and I built a cottage on Lower Goose Island in 1974. In 1985, I bought property on Lower Goose and a cottage and bunk house with my own family. This new post and beam cottage was built in 2010. I have the good fortune and pleasure to enjoy nearly every weekend from early spring to late fall on Lower Goose. I have created several trails for walking and exploring the island. I truly enjoy my time spent on Lower Goose, whether I am relaxing, enjoying the summer sunshine or chipping brush and working in the woods. I have a lobster boat, with which I lobster in the summer and scallop in the winter. I look forward to my future retirement on Lower Goose Island.

What makes this Cottage unique
Lower Goose is a slice of heaven. Close and convenient to the mainland, but far enough removed to let the day to day routine evaporate and relaxation to take over.

Beautiful cottage on a serene island
We had the most wonderful stay. Laura and Scott (& Pippy) are the most gracious hosts, going above and beyond to help make it one of our favorite vacations ever! We kayaked, fished, hiked, enjoyed lobster, beach combed, and explored to our hearts' content. We were able to go lobstering with them on our last day and it was an awesome experience. We will be back! Thank you Laura and Scott!!!
Fabulous location with breath taking views from all vantage points at every time of the day!
The well appointed cottage offers guests a perfect island escape. The open cottage layout is very comfortable and inviting. Places for all to sit and read or to enjoy a group game or meal.
The beautiful front patio is ideal for coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. Views of the Goslings and the boat anchorage, with the sounds of the seals and sights of eagles!
The kayaks were perfect for exploring the shoreline, seal ledges and pocket beaches. We walked the the trails and explored the amazing ferns, flora and fauna. Swimming from both the shore and the float was a daily event!
Truly a peaceful, relaxing vacation!
Can't wait for next year!
Visiting Scott and Laura's lower goose island home is a wonderful family retreat providing the best of both worlds- an island escape with proximity to Freeport. In addition to relaxing in comfort at the house, we enjoy walking the trails, kayaking, fishing and scouring the rocky beaches for treasures at low tide. Daily swims off the dock continue a longstanding Maine family tradition and our girls love trips (in the rented whaler) to Paul's marina in Brunswick to get ice cream and penny candy. In past years we've also taken the short boat trip to Peary's Eagle Island state park and 'take out' at harraseeket lunch 'n lobster. The animated seals at Grassy 'seal' Ledge are a riot and the birds are a treat to watch. Osprey, eagles, eider ducks, terns, cormorants, gulls, great blue heron, egrets and even a couple of loons welcomed us this year.
Speaking of welcome, Laura and Scott are wonderful hosts, happy to share this slice of Casco Bay life. We look forward to first day 'sundown' dockside conversations and lobstering with them at week's end. The house is beautifully crafted and thoughtfully appointed with three bedrooms that work well for our four adult-one teen- two children family. The kitchen is outfitted with a gas refrigerator and stove and a full range of cookware and utensils.
With cozy accommodations, a generator available for charging electronics and decent cellular service, this isn't exactly roughing it! The 'composting toilet' and outdoor shower give you the option to tell your friends you were. :)
We love it here and look forward to our visit each year. Highly recommended.
Perfect Maine Island Getaway!
We had the good fortune to spend some time on Lower Goose Island in this magical cottage complete with it's own dock, coastline and hand built hiking trails criss-crossing the island. The owners/hosts went out of their way to welcome us and make sure we had everything we wanted and needed to make our vacation over the top enjoyable. We kayaked along the shore and around the Gosling Islands just off of Lower Goose; we went lobstering and learned first hand what hard work it is, but also how fun it is; we even borrowed water skis (on site) and had our kids experience the first time joy of this sport. The cottage is a true work of art and hand craftsmanship. It is beautiful, with lots of extra details that were thought out (old restored doors, exposed beams that were recycled from previous projects) and it has all the amenities that you need: refridgerator, gas stove/over, gas BBQ grill, hot + cold running water and a fully stocked kitchen with any cooking tool you need. It sleeps 6-7 comfortably in 3 twins, 1 queen and 1 full bed. The views from the dining room table, living room and downstairs bedroom are out of this world. I would highly recommend a stay if you are looking for a fun family adventure, want plenty of activities to do, but also want a quiet place to decompress and read a good book!! We will undoubtedly be back next summer for a longer stay!
Lower goose island experience Exceeded all expectations
We had such an amazing time at the LowerGoose island cottage. Immaculatecottage and outhouse! Hot and cold water in outdoor shower a treat. Cottage is not only the epitome of island cottage/camp style and comfort but beautifully constructed and furnished w/ every conceivable amenity. We (two couples) spread out and had room for others (next time). The beds are excellent....so comfortable and the atmosphere so relaxing that our snorers forgot to snore!
Our hosts, Scott and Laura and Sally, the sweet lab, thought of everything. Lobstering and a succulent lobster feast were a bonus. All communications and the reservation process were timely and uneventful. Our hosts patiently put up with all our questions and generously shared their wisdom and experiences with us. Look forward to returning time and time again.
Three Generations Enjoyed This Maine Island Cottage
Three generations spent a second vacation at the cottage. We were warmly greeted by our hosts and had time to catch up on the events of the year on the boat ride from the Royal River Marina to the island..Since last year, grass has been planted and is growing at the side of the cottage and the garden is alive with fern and day lilies. A shed has been built which houses the generator where we charged our multitude of electronic devices and mobile phones. The upstairs bedrooms had some new decorations. We found Casco Bay and Lower Goose to be as beautiful as ever and to offer many things to do.We hiked around the island and through its interior where we saw a dramatic stand of beech trees. The girls fished in the early morning from the dock and at breakfast, we shared a taste of their catch of small fish which we cooked up on the porch grill. We kayaked, swam, made two trips to Mares Point for penny candy for the girls and Jumpin Judy's Java for the adults. We kayaked around the island and over to the seals who rewarded us with their vocal performances. An osprey nest was close by and we saw and heard the birds as we sat on the front terrace enjoying one of the many spectacular views of the bay. The cottage is comfortably furnished and has a well appointed kitchen. Its long dining table is conducive to sharing family meals and adventures of the day. After dinner, by the light of gas lamps, we migrated to the living room to read, work on a jigsaw puzzle or just enjoy the view. The downstairs bedroom looks out on the bay and while still in bed enabled us to welcome each morning as the sun rose or the fog rolled in. The upstairs bedrooms are spacious and also have wonderful views. On our last evening, a large rainbow arced across the sky above the bay, a fitting end to a wonderful vacation. All in all, this cottage and its owners are better than advertised. It is a beautiful, well maintained and clean property with lots to do and warm welcoming hosts. We highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the beauty and peacefulness of being on an island in Casco Bay.
