Guestbook comments from the owner

"This is such a great little vacation spot. I really enjoy it here. It's a super quiet area, near the water and a dock, and the homes are really clean and comfortable. I wish I could come here more often. The owner, BJ, is sweet and fun to talk to. It's nice to chat with other families staying at the other houses too. There is a playground area for the little ones too."

Week at the Lake

  • 4 of 5

This was our first time staying at Aqua Casa. We had rented a cottage nearby for several years and were very pleasantly surprised at the "extras" that were with the Aqua Casa cottage, hand soap at the sinks, Kleenix in nearly every room, paper towels, garbage bags, dish soap, toilet paper and the list goes on. The grounds and the cottage were neatly kept.

There was an occasional ant, but heck, they come in our own house sometimes, after all, you are on the edge of a lake.

It was meaningful to us to be able to bring our beloved aged dog with us.

Even though the other cottages were occupied, we enjoyed our privacy and it was relatively quiet.

We are planning on spending our next summer vacation at Aqua Casa on Chautauqua Lake, hopefully next time we can do a two week stay.

Thank you

not coming back

  • 2 of 5

We stayed there in July of this year and I don't think we will be back . Beware there is an overprotective dog in the office so knock you can't just walk in . The cabin was ok just what a cabin would be except we had to ask for a key and they said they didn't have one but finally found one which didn't help much due to the fact that some of the windows didn't lock and a lot of them had no screens . I thought the view in the pictures and from what the map showed that we were on the lake but we weren't if you looked one way or the other you saw part of the lake in front of the cabin was the office , have never had to pay a dock fee in all the years we have gone up there and the row boat that you can use has a 2011 sticker on it so I wouldn't use it

Owner's Response: Thank you, Pat, for your insights. We have already taken steps to make sure you will not encounter these issues, if you choose to come back. It is true we have a German Shepherd who is currently in obedience training. The Aqua Casa Vacation Home office that is located in front of the our Red Door vacation home, is not just an office, but a year round home. We have posted a sign to let our guests know that they need to knock rather than just walk in as one would at typical business office. This is for our guests and the resident's (owner's) comfort and peace of mind. We also have keys for all of the homes, at this time, and have made accommodations to secure the windows in the Red Door vacation home that did not have locks. The original builders did not find a need for window locks and did not include screens. There are a few of those windows still in the house. We understand your concern about the expired boat tags and we could remove them to avoid confusion, however, the water police will not pull you over because New York State boating laws do not require boats of any kind to be registered if the boat does not have a motor on it. We do not allow motors on any of our free boats and canoes. We, Aqua Casa Vacation Homes, have always had a docking fee for our guests with boats. It helps to keep the cost down for those who choose not to use the dock or do not have a boat. We have decided to institute a nominal day rate and a weeklong rate to make it fair to guests who only want to dock for a day or two instead of the whole week. We could up our rates for everyone but we feel it is more fair to have boaters pay for boating expenses and for non boaters to not incur that cost. In our description on VRBO of the setting for Red Door vacation home we include that there is a house in front of it. New photos have been taken and we will post them to make sure that is clear. The Red Door vacation home is a lake house with partial lake views from front porch, front room window and front bedroom window, on the edge of the main lakefront yard, of which, Red Door renters have 24 hour full access. The lakefront yard features a 150 ft. pier, gazebo, lakeside fire pit, and more.
