U`ilani purchased this cottage in 2011
We chose beautiful Kaloli Point area because it's rural, safe, and friendly. Towns are easily accessible, but still has that small 'coastal community feel'.
It's always lush and green here! We are right in the middle of the best parts of the the Windward side of the Island. Beautiful Hilo to the North and tropical Kalapana to the South. There is so much history here in the 'Aina (land).
This property was perfect for our visits to Volcanoes National Park. Nestled in its own little rainforest, this hale had everything we needed.
What a pleasant surprise to drive up to this tropical paradise on a tropical rainy evening of our arrival. My husband and I planned to spend Thanksgiving with my mother but sadly she passed away prior to our visit. Since plans had been previously made we went ahead with them hoping the visit to the Big Island would aid in the healing process. We couldn't have selected a better place to meet those needs. We arrived late and very tired. Not knowing the area, we had difficulty finding the cottage in the darkness but the owner graciously stayed with us on our cell phone until we reached the property. The cottage is nestled in a safe, secluded and semi private neighborhood. The openness of the living room, dining area and kitchen, gave the ambience of living in the tropics. The warm breezes at night and the sound of the ocean waves just a block away made it even more serene and relaxing. In the morning we opened the curtains to catch glimpses of colorful birds perching from one tree to another. This became a daily adventure. The garden was filled with beautiful flowers and greenery. The only thing we needed to buy was groceries. Everything is cleanly maintained, comfortable and provided for in the cottage to include wifi. We were disappointed with the amount of rain the Island received this time of year (which only lasted a few minutes through the day), but didn't let it stop us from adventuring off to nearby towns and the Volcanoes National Park. In addition, we had the opportunity to fish off the rocks as waves of the Pacific crashed into the rocks. We can't say enough how we enjoyed ourselves and will definitely return. This cottage most certainly helped us at our time of loss. Very well affordable and worth it!
Being from the Big Island but living on Oahu it is always nice to get out of the city and enjoy the country. Reservations went smoothly. I was able to luck out and book last minute. Response time was quick. The one bedroom house was on stilts and hidden by Ohia trees which gave much privacy. There was toothpaste, salt and pepper, cooking oil, tea bags, hair spray, and a couple of other odds and ends that was left over from previous renters which came in handy. I would not rely on them as it is dependent on what previous renters leave behind. The hammock on the lanai was a welcome end of the night with a glass of red wine and listening to the coqui frogs sing the night away. A cooler was provided as well as snorkel gear, a boogie board, and beach towels. Location was very convenient to the Volcano, hot springs, grocery and drug stores, and restaurants. I felt very safe there and I was a single woman traveling by myself. The home was well maintained and very clean on arrival and U'ilani was very helpful and present if needed for and advice or help. She made me feel very welcome and had a true Hawaiian spirit. Much Mahalos.
My fiance and I stayed here for 4 nights in October 2016. The home felt very private with all of the trees surrounding, and felt like living in a treehouse. The neighborhood is one of the safest on the east side of Hawaii. We saw many people walking their dogs, etc. during the day time. When we first walked in, the space was very cute and cozy, but it seemed a bit warm. We showed up in the middle of the day when it is warmer outside and the windows were closed. There is a fan in the living room and a floor fan in the bedroom. Once the windows are opened, the breeze cools the house down quite a bit! This was the first time I have stayed somewhere with no A/C. Typically have the A/C on 72 during the day, and 71 at night. The rental probably felt about 74 degrees during the day and at night, when we were sleeping, we actually got a little cold (just using sheets) and had to grab the extra blanket for the bed. So it was probably about 70 degrees at night, which was great. The coffee maker worked great, water is provided for drinking, the shower worked well (hot water comes on fast and the water pressure was just right), and plenty of towels were provided for beach and for use in the house. The internet is cable high speed internet! I brought my computer to work a bit here and there during our stay. The internet was fast and reliable. I actually brought an HDMI cord and connected the tv to my laptop on a few occasions to have a second monitor and it worked perfectly. The house was very clean. There was not a dishwasher, which might be common in Hawaii (other rental we stayed at was the same way).. So you have to hand wash dishes, which wasn't a problem to us. It rained a few times when we were there, but I have heard that Hawaiian Paradise Park is one of the least rainy places on the east side of the island. It would rain off and on, and more at night times. The rain was refreshing. Love listening to the rain during the night time. The owner U'ilani is available by text, phone, or email. Very quick to respond if you need anything. The listing details are 100% accurate. We definitely enjoyed our stay and would stay here again!
This is a beautiful house surrounded by nature and luscious rainforest like trees which provide a very relaxing and peaceful location.
It is an excellent place to stay while on holiday to check out Hilo and Kilauea volcano (having a car for the duration of the stay is necessary).
Shops are 20+ minutes away by car.
Its advertised description was accurate and doesn't do justice to this hideaway in amongst the beautiful nature of the Big Island.
Very clean...very reasonably priced and private. Mahalo to our travel agent who found the perfect space for our perfect vacation. The Big Island is so big we didn't get to see enough. We will be back. Mahalo again Uilani for allowing us the use of your rental. It really was perfect :)
Located in the lush, tropical paradise of Sunny Kaloli Point. Our private cottages are located only minutes away from rugged volcanic coast and near Black Sand Beaches, Akaka Falls, Volcanoes National Park, Active Kilauea Volcano. Stroll thru historic Pahoa Town. Watch whales from the coastline (Dec.-Mar), take an exciting Zip Line Tour, pick up fresh, local items at many Farmers Markets. Or just 'kick back' and enjoy the birds, foliage and Hawaiian music in the hammock on the lanai!
