About Cathy Bittrick
Meet Barry and Cathy Bittrick. We live on Mona Lake and know how much fun it is to live on water. We've lived in West Michigan for over 40 years and although Barry is a "Cheesehead" from Wisconsin, once in awhile I can get him to cheer for the Lions! Our favorite restaurants are Dockers, The Deck, Hearthstone and The Lakehouse, but we're only minutes from Grand Haven and Kirby's Grill House is also a favorite. Although we both still work in Grand Rapids, we love to get home in the summer and hop on the pontoon and tour around the lake. If you need anything, we live right around the corner. (To be compliant with Michigan Real Estate License Law, I am a Licensed Real Estate Broker with RE/MAX SunQuest Realty at 6255 28th St. S.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546 and this is our personal investment property) Hope you enjoy renting this fun beach house!
Cathy Bittrick purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Cathy Bittrick chose Norton Shores
We chose Mona Lake because it has access to Lake Michigan, but even on the weekends, the lake doesn't have a lot of traffic, so it's safe for jet skiers, and boating, great fishing and the most beautiful sunsets on Lake Michigan. The lake also has a sandy bottom so we like that. Come and make some great memories. We hope you enjoy our home away from home.
What makes this Cottage unique
The kitchen is all remodeled with granite counters, tile flooring, new appliances, new carpet in the living room. New king-size bed in one bedroom and new twin beds in second bedroom. Pull-out couch in living room gives lots of room for another couple or children. Great lawn for volley ball and beautiful lakefront swimming. Michigan Adventure Water Park is right up US-31 and Lake Michigan Beaches, USS Silversides Submarine Tours, Art Festivals, Bike have it all!!

We had a wonderful stay at the lake house. Cathy was extremely hospitable, even purchased a high chair and small toys for our kids to make our stay enjoyable and stress free! We had so much fun fishing and swimming off the dock and the seaweed was not a bother. Pere Marquette beach was a 20 min drive for a change of scenery as well - beautiful! The crooked floors were a bit of an annoyance but everything else was great. Thank you so much for a great stay!
Thanks so much for your kind words, Dana! We enjoyed having you and hope you'll visit us again. Glad the views made up for the crooked floors. LOL! They've been that way since the 1980's and will have to stay that way for a few more years. Safe travels home! Kindly, Cathy and Barry
Great Lake for paddle boarding
Our family had a great time on our trip. The lake was great for paddle boarding. It wasn’t crowded with boats and very peaceful. Because of the hot and dry weather the lake did have a lot of weeds. To get away from the weeds, we took our boards out farther in the lake and swam where couldn’t touch the bottom. We had fantastic weather and were able to paddle board everyday.
Thanks so much for joining us, Michelle! The lake is being sprayed again for weeds next week and will be back to its usual sandy bottom soon. So glad you enjoyed your visit and hope you will visit us again! Kindly, Cathy Bittrick
Great view but disappointing lake house
The owners are nice people and even offered to take us for a ride on their pontoon boat. Unfortunately the house isn’t as nice as the pictures show. The floors are very crooked throughout the house. In some small areas the floor is soft enough you feel as if your foot is going to go through.
The floor was so unlevel in the master bedroom that we had to sleep with our pillows at the foot of the bed otherwise you have to sleep with your feet higher than your head.
We tried to get the TV in the bedroom to work for quite awhile the 1st night and were informed by the owner the next day it doesn’t work. Owner made no attempt to fix it.
Mosquitoes kept getting in the 2nd bedroom, even with windows and doors shut, my kids ended up having to sleep in the living room after the first night.
Prior to arriving the owner told us we could swim and fish off the dock. The water was only 3.5-4 ft deep off the end of the dock. The water had significant vegetation out to at least 75 ft beyond the dock which made swimming and fishing impossible.
We are easy going people and rarely complain about things such as this but in this case we feel it’s justified.
We expected much more for our hard earned money and don’t plan to return.
On the positive side, the house is in close proximity to beaches and other points of interest.
Thank you so much for your honest feedback and we are truly sorry your experience wasn't rated as high as our many other guests. Yes, our little beach house is older and we try to address the crooked floors in your welcome note. They have been that way since the 1980's and are part of the charm, and no you won't fall through them. LOL! My husband weighs 285#'s and is very secure in walking on them. In your future vacations, however, I would recommend that you communicate with the owner on a regular basis during your stay so that we have the opportunity to correct those issues that you have complained about. The dock is only put out to 3.5 to 4 feet deep for the safety of our little guests in case they should accidentally fall off the dock. Michigan has had unusually dry and hot days this summer, so the vegetation in the lake is definitely more than it's usual sandy bottom. While the water is treated in the spring, this year we've had more seaweed than usual. We try to take our guests out on the pontoon for a swim in Lake Michigan and also address every concern as soon as they arrive. Since you declined our offer, we assumed all was well while you were here. We would have happily given your family our kayaks at no charge had we known the water was an issue for you. The main TV in the living room has basic cable with 11 channels, free wifi, and a library of DVD's for our guest's entertainment. We supply one cable box and there is none in the master bedroom. That TV has been disconnected and removed. As soon as our current guests checked out today we checked on the master bedroom mattress and found it to be off the frame. Had you notified us the first day, we could have fixed this for you and your wife. Again, if we aren't aware of it, we can't fix it. We keep fresh coffee for your use in the refrigerator, a full supply of condiments, towels, soap, and fresh linen. All of our windows have screens on them, and window air-conditioners, but mosquitos do tend to come inside if the sliders are left open. Mona Lake has been our home for several years and we welcome our many satisfied guests to visit us again and again. Our weeks book up quickly early in the year. Cheers for a better experience during your next vacation wherever that may be and my suggestion would be to make your concerns known immediately so the next vacation owners can help you enjoy your vacation somewhere else and not have to read about it in your poor reviews. Kindly, Cathy
Cathy and Barry are fantastic hosts. The best part of our trip is when they took us on a boat ride and let my kids jump off in Lake Michigan. There home is stocked with everything you need for the week and it is decorated very Coastal. We took several day trips as the home is centrally located. MIchigan Adventures, Craig's Crusers, Downtown Grand Haven. We enjoyed our family time around the campfire!!! MAde a lot of memories.
Thank you so much, Sue, for your kind words. Your kids are so well-behaved and we thoroughly enjoyed having you stay with us. Looking forward to a return visit next year and another ride out to Lake Michigan. Kindly, Cathy
