About Veronica Macdonald

Alan and I, both transplants to the south (he from Virginia, me from out west) share a love of fine old houses, antique furniture and travelling to Italy. We have entertained many friends in the house in Beaufort, as evidenced by the warm spirit that blesses the house.

Veronica Macdonald purchased this bungalow in 2002

Why Veronica Macdonald chose Beaufort

This property was bought on a whim while vacationing on Harbor Island. Having locked ourselves out of the condo we were renting at the time, we began to page through real estate books while waiting for the office to fetch a key to open the locked condo. The house beckoned and we bought it (as soon as we returned to the locked condo and showered, or course).

What makes this bungalow unique

How 'Dana's Cottage' got it's name: Read the story catalogued in a scrapbook located in the dining room of the house. Suffice it to say: When I first stepped foot in the Beaufort house it felt very much like Aunt Dana's house. You will have to read the complete story about Aunt Dana to find out why I named the house after her.

Comfortable Place, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Lots of space. My daughter especially enjoyed the piano. The location is just far enough from downtown to be quiet but within a very reasonable walking distance. Off street parking is convenient. The kitchen is well stocked. I loved the griddle that's made to fit onto the gas cook-top. It's great for cooking breakfast. Veronica is great to work with.

Charming, Cozy, and Spotless!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place! We really weren't quite sure what to expect when we booked the bungalow for a long week end in the Low Country but on arriving (after dark) were just completely charmed by the house. Eclectically and perfectly decorated, the beds were very comfortable, the kitchen modern and more than fully equipped, and only a short walk to downtown Beaufort's lovely waterfront. Veronica has decorated the house with an elegant and simple style that made us feel perfectly at home while on an excellent vacation. Linens, towels, all the fixtures were first rate. We can't wait to return. Highly recommended!!!

Perfect for our needs

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in early October and loved the home. Although it rained most of the time we were there, we still went out with our umbrella and walked to the downtown to the Shrimpfest on the first night. We got wet but the house has a great washer and dryer, so no big deal. The home is well equipped and comfortable, and we had coffee in the mornings and some meals on the screened porch. The road tends to be a little noisy but since we were close to everything, it was to be expected. The neighborhood is quaint and safe, and the trees are majestic. If you're looking for a convenient location, clean home and South Carolina charm, definitely choose this home.

Delightful home!

  • 5 of 5

we stayed with another couple in town for a Marine corps graduation. The beds were comfortable and the home was both well decorated and comfortable. We loved sitting on the screen porch each afternoon and were close to both the downtown restaurants Parris Island.

What a delightful experience!

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful stay in this updated home in an older part of town. It is quite apparent that a lot of time and energy went towards the thinking process detailing every need or want that a guest could desire. Nothing was spared when it comes to the comfort of the guest. All amenities were provided even down to a deck of playing cards in the family room. I especially appreciated the comfortable beds with their vintage bedding. Thank you Veronica! Your home was the "icing on the cake" during my vacation to Beaufort.

Car: not necessary

Almost every weekend Beaufort hosts various activities held in the Waterpark overlooking the Bay of the Atlantic Ocean. During those times, there is a fight for parking but when staying at the house you can walk because the Waterpark is as close to the house as if you drove and walked to your car.

Also, if you want to enjoy the tour of homes held annually in Beaufort in October, there is no need to drive and catch the shuttle. Simply walk the tour because this vacation rental is located in the same vicinity as those included in the tour.

If you enjoy antiquing, you can walk to the antique stores, as most of them are located in downtown Beaufort, which is less than a mile from then house.

You will only need your car if you want to cross the big bridge and drive out to any of the islands for beach access.
