About Lori Gard

We are retired and enjoy this cabin immensely. We would like to share it with you when we are traveling.

Lori Gard purchased this cabin in 1985

Why Lori Gard chose Ashford

We love hiking in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter. This is truly a four-season getaway. It is spectacular here whether the sun shines or the rain or snow falls.

What makes this cabin unique

Nisqually Chalet is 5 miles from Mt. Rainier - a year-round location and destination dream for world travelers and locals alike. With mountaineering year round; hiking, climbing and backpacking in summer; and showshoeing, cross country skiing and snow camping in winter; Mt. Rainier and the surrounding Ashford area offer a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.

Notes:
Nisqually Chalet is a perfect getaway where spouses/significant others can enjoy a digital-free environment or new wifi capability. Although there is a moderate Verizon signal (no other cell phones providers work here), there is a land line with local and free US (lower 48) long distance. Nisqually Chalet offers opportunities around a campfire or in a hot tub where couples and/or families can recapture intimate conversation.

Quiet, inviting cabin in the woods with hot tub

  • 4 of 5

This was our second visit to the Nisqually Chalet because we liked it so much the first time. The setting is a small development in the woods with homes situated for privacy. Deer abound at dawn and dusk. One of the neighbors has cats that may visit. The hot tub is well cared for and has good instructions. The back yard is a lovely place to while away some quality time even with a burn ban in effect. The house is comfortably appointed and being kept up (the couch, which seemed fine to us, was replaced after we left). Robes are provided. The kitchen has enough gear for simple cooking. Wi-fi is excellent. A washer and dryer are available to guests. All in all, this is a great place to either make your base or just hang out for a few days - or more. Age makes no difference. The score would have been higher but there was a problem with getting into the lock box for keys, which we solved by ourselves.

Perfect place to call home while visiting Mt. Rainier

  • 5 of 5

This cute little cabin in the woods is very near the entrance to the park. The hot tub and wood burning stove and the quiet surroundings make it feel very cozy. The kitchen is well stocked, the wifi works well and there is a new TV for watching Netflix or videos. We hope to return to see more of the park and hope to stay here when we do.

Clean and convenient location near Mt. Rainier

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four stayed her to visit Mr. Rainier. We love the location as it was near restaurants along way to Mt. Rainier entrance. Lori was easy to reach by phone and email and she promptly answered any questions/requests we had before and during our stay. The cabin is comfortable and cozy and very clean -- both inside and out.. My wife and I shared one bed and the two teenage kids shared the second bedroom. There was plenty of room. It was nice to get a break from downtown Seattle traffic and construction for a change. Wi-fi worked fine and much appreciated by the teens, especially when there is no cell service for ATT in the area. I had overheard a lady complain about a nearby cabin that wi-fi was not working there so I was glad we didn't have that issue at Lori's cabin. The only negative would be the dining table chairs are a bit creaky and you might break them if you are not careful.

Perfect Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Very well-kept home in a very convenient location. Close to Rainier National Park, the trailheads to the Mt Tahoma Ski Trails, and even local parks. No TV reception, but she has a smart TV and Internet, so if you have a Netflix/Hulu etc account, you're good to go.
