About Kristin

We moved from Michigan to Knoxville in 1978 to attend the University of Tennessee. We immediately fell in love with East Tennessee so we stayed and raised our family here. We're so fortunate to live at the gateway to one of the country's most beautiful and popular national parks.

Kristin purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Kristin chose East

We purchased our cabin in 2002 to allow us to be closer to the Smoky's for our hiking and fly-fishing adventures. The location at Big Bear Lodge & Resort is incredibly convenient to everything you need to enjoy this wonderful area. In 2012 we decided to forego rental management companies and rent on our own.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin is perfect for guests who want to be close to shopping, restaurants, and all of the Pigeon Forge attractions, but still feel a sense of privacy. We love to use it for our 'base camp' for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We absolutely loved the cabin - it was great. Had a great time in the mountains other than getting a little bruised from tubing down the river. The cabin was beautiful and our kids loved the bottom level - they basically had their own house down there. Thanks again and we will rent from you next time we visit the Smokey’s!

Very comfortable, "homey" experience.

Exactly as described- and at a fantastic price! Slept my whole family comfortably and when we weren't running around seeing all the sites, it was a great place to go back and relax in.

The property is nice. Cosmetics need done though

  • 4 of 5

Our stay overall was good. The home is pretty inside and out. Some things of note are the gas grill really really needs replaced. The shelves tilt to the side so much, items slide off. Remove the hornets nest under the back patio table. They didn't bother us too much as we left them alone. The front porch should be routinely cleaned. We swept it off and got rid of the spider webs. There is no yard. The upstairs bed mattress needs replaced. It's high in the middle and slants to the sides. We actually slept on the bed sideways two nights. On a good note, the price is very reasonable and problems may be minor to some. I just think of how I would want it if I owned it.

For first timers, go to The Islands in Pigeon Forge. Let you kids play on the slider all day for $15. The fountain light show at night is beautiful.

Cabin was nice.

  • 1 of 5

Cabin could have been cleaner.Lots of cobwebs. It looked like it had not been dusted. Kitchen rugs were stuck to tile when I went to pick them up so I could sweep the floor.Kitchen floor was not very clean, it looked like they had mopped around the rugs.Tubs had soap rings. When we went to vaccum and the cleaner was stopped up, it looked like it had not been empty on a long time.We only had five towels ,.so we had to wash towels every day. Also no extra sheets for the hideaway beds. I am sorry if you think I am a little picky but I had my own house cleaning business at one time and I tend to be a little picky. But you are paying for a service and you should expect better than your service did.

Owner's Response: Glad you like the cabin - sorry that you had some problems. I shared your comments with our cleaning crew and asked them to take a look at the issues. I know that they did a thorough cleaning this spring when I was there. The kitchen rugs had been taped down with double sided tape to prevent slippage. We will be replacing those. The cleaners use their own vacuum cleaner, the one we provide is for guests. I have asked that they check it and empty it if it is full. Fortunately, it is a bag-less one so guests should be able to empty as needed. Our welcome letter gives the cleaner contact so that if there are sheets needed or extra towels the guest just needs to call to request them. We supply 6 towels, 3 for upstairs and 3 for downstairs. The towels are not intended for use at the pools, we'll update our welcome letter to remind guests to bring towels for the pool and if they need more than 6. Thanks for bringing these issues to our attention. We're sorry that these caused you to only give a one star rating as we rely on our ratings for future business. Wish you could have also commented on the cabin, the location and your visit to Pigeon Forge. Hope that your stay was otherwise enjoyable. Kristin & Rusty

We really liked the cabin and the location. We put the kids downstairs and we were upstairs which worked out great. Netflix's was a nice bonus. Will recommend to anyone I know wanting a nice getaway in the Mountains! Thanks!

Outstanding Property

  • 4 of 5

My friends, my husband and I had a wonderful time at Kristen and Rusty's vacation home. The cabin was beautiful, roomy and clean. We will definitely keep this home in mind the next time we make a trip to Pigeon Forge. The location was terrific, not to far from town and very quite and peaceful. We loved the fact we could take our fur babies with us. The only drawback was the hot tub did not heat up or run correctly. Other than that, it was a great place. Thank you Kristen and Rusty for letting us rent your vacation home.
