Zermatt: The car free resort of Zermatt is situated at the foot of the Matterhorn in Switzerland and offers access to a ski area of over 400km, connected to Cervinia in Italy. The village is situated at 1560m and with the highest cable car at 3888m it ensures excellent skiing in the winter and great glacier skiing in the summer. The Old House is only a 5 minute walk away from Sunnegga & Gornergrat lift stations & the bus stop for Klein Matterhorn is a 3 minute walk.
Location of the apartment: Nestled between the two five star hotels in Zermatt’s centre the Hinterdorfstrasse is a charming quiet cobbled street & the oldest part of the village. Many of the buildings date back to the 1700’s. Hinterdorf is now a listed & protected area.

About Marcus Philpott
Originally from England I came out to Zermatt to work in the ski business during the early 90's. I worked Scott Dunn for much of that time as a manager and also taught skiing with Summit Ski School. These days I am away a lot in my capacity as an international tour manager.

I had been living in a rented apartment just a few doors away when this one came up for sale. I took this project on with the idea to create a lovely home for me to live in. Having spent a few very happy years here I have made the property available for holiday rental since changing career.
What makes this Apartment unique
The building dates back to 1865 but was lovingly renovated by a local craftsman in 2007 combining elements of traditional & contemporary styles. A truly wonderful location right in the heart of historic Zermatt on the old cobbled Hinterdorfstrasse. Downstairs: open plan kitchen / dining room with stone surround wood burning fire the kitchen is very well equipped with high quality oven, steamer, microwave, gas hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, kettle & coffee machine. Wi Fi is available throughout the house. Twin bedroom, bathroom, small utility room with washing / drying machine & ski cupboard. Upstairs: Loft style living room with very comfortable English furniture (2 person sofa, 2 single armchairs & a footstool). French windows onto the south facing balcony both offering superb Matterhorn views. A large top of the range LCD tv with Swisscom cable box offering channels in English, German, French & Spanish. A good quality music system & cd / dvd player. Sonos wireless speakers in every room (download the Sonos app to stream your music from your phone or ipad .) Double en suit bedroom (wetroom with shower), separate access door & outside stairs. Both bedrooms have curtains & blinds. Best use has been made of the available space despite strict building regulations on this beautiful listed property, so the bathrooms are functional but small with showers in both. (The internal staircase is very steep so great care is needed if you have young children. There is however another outside staircase that runs up the side of the building.)

Perfect place for a small family
The view of the Matterhorn from the second floor balcony can’t be beat (especially when paired with a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening). It’s a perfect size for a family of 4, offering everyone plenty of privacy. The kitchen was big and well appointed; great for entertaining. We would definitely book here again.

Truly unique and amazing home!
We loved staying at the Old House. The check-in was easy and flexible with our timing as we were arriving by car. We parked in Tasch and took the quick train up and were met at the train station with a taxi directly to the home. Very convenient!
The house is more beautiful than the pictures online. It was very clean and offered everything you would want in a rental and more. We were comfortable with 4 adults. You could probably fit another on the couch in the living room as wel.
We loved that you could walk right out your door and had restaurants, shops, a grocery store, bus stops..everything within steps. This is a great location! I can't recommend this house enough.
The perfect home in a lovely town
The apartment is located in the middle of town, just a few minutes away from shops and restaurants. However, the apartment stays quiet and insulated from the noise of the town. All around the apartment are beautiful 16th century barns and lovely cobblestone streets. It's less than 10 minutes to the train station and a lovely 15 minute walk to the gondolas up to the Matterhorn. The home has been redone in a beautiful and tasteful way. Our family of four had plenty of space to relax and enjoy the views of the Matterhorn.
Marcus was quick to respond to any questions we had, and his associate was very helpful and kind. We would love to return to Zermatt someday and can't imagine staying anywhere else!

Beautifully restored home. Excellent host. Had everything we needed. Location very central in Zermatt. Heated floors in bathrooms was a great touch.

Old House Zermatt is wonderful! The historic and convenient location is such a treat. The apartment is beautiful; clean, charming and fully equipped. It is everything it promised to be and more. Charming Home & Owner
The Old House Zermatt is a charming, beautifully kept home in a central location in Zermatt. This house made our trip complete along with a personal visit from the owner Marcus who gave us many good tips of must-see and do things in Zermatt. We enjoyed the hike down from the Gornergrat to ZumSee restaurant and the hike to Trift. We hope to come back!!

Hinterdorf is now a listed & protected area. Ski: SKI LIFTS Gornergrat: A 5 minute walk down the Bahnhofstrasse. Sunnegga: A 6 minute walk down past the bus stop & along the river. Klein Matterhorn: Best to take the bus 3 minute walk to the river or a 15 min walk. Town Centre; The Bahnhofstrasse (High St.) with restaurants, bars & shops just a one minute walk. Train Station: A 6 minute walk or take an Electro Taxi for CHF20 with luggage.
