About Carrie

I own and manage several vacation homes in New Orleans, Austin, TX, and Wimberley, TX. I love this business. I love taking care of people as they do the most important thing in life- VACATION! I am commtted to restoring these older homes and preserving what makes NOLA so special. I live here-- 5 minutes from the house if anything is needed.

Carrie purchased this house in 2011

Why Carrie chose Marigny-Bywater

Location Location , and its beautiful inside. I love these amazing older historic homes.

4 blks walk to French Quarter, and only 2 blks walk to Frenchmen St !!!!

Many people rent bikes to get around this area--very special

What makes this house unique

walk only 2 blks to the super fun Frenchman St., and 4 blks to the French Quarter

Great little find in the Marigny!

  • 5 of 5

I was pleasantly surprised at the size of this rental - it is bigger than it looks in pictures and the high ceilings help it feel spacious. The location was great for us to attend a wedding in the French Quarter - it is a 10 minute walk right down Chartres Street. Streetcar stop #1 is a 5 minute walk, Ubers are readily available, and there are several bars/restaurants within walking distance. We even purchased produce from a wholesaler around the corner (Bubba's Produce) so we could enjoy fresh fruit smoothies daily (the rental has a blender). Keep in mind that it's a shotgun house and you do have to walk through one bedroom to reach the rest of the house.

Everything was better than expected except for the wifi - it seemed only to work in the back half of the house, so keep that in mind if you're planning to rely on wifi for much. This was a great fit for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) and the washer/dryer let us cut down on how much we had to pack for a week's stay.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

This unit is spacious, comfortable, and convenient to both Frenchman St and the Quarter. The property was clean when we arrived and was in generally good repair.

The owner could improve the experience for guests with a couple of inexpensive upgrades. The unit needs dishes, wine glasses, and coffee cups. There were just a few dishes, 2 tiny wine glasses, and 3 coffee cups. These are CHEAP items. There is no reason not to have them.

The unit has a nice little backyard, which is a definite plus. It floods in the rain, though.

This unit has 2 queen beds. One is in a proper bedroom and one is in a "pass-through" room which is typical of shotgun houses. There is also a couch which could serve as a single bed for one more guest.

It's great to have 1 1/2 bathrooms.

The A/C works fine.

The shower could be better. Water pressure is mediocre and the shower head is positioned very low on the wall -- too low for anyone but a child, really.

Despite the fairly minor quibbles, I can recommend this place -- mainly for its location and comfort. There are plenty of nearby places to shop, eat, get coffee, or see live music.

Fabulous location but 2 star accommodation for 4 star prices.

  • 2 of 5

Location was superb. 15 min from centre of FQ and 5 min from Frenchman St. never felt unsafe at any stage. Have stayed in authentic holiday rentals previously and was originally looking for an apartment around Bourbon St for that maximum authentic experience – thank god I didn’t, its an absolute dumping ground and the stench was unbearable. Marginy is an ideal location choice.

My one concern was previous reviews about neighbours. We had absolutely no issue with noise in fact it was deadly quiet and despite being within touching distance from a small local pub. Anyone we passed always had a friendly hello.

I would describe the property furnishings as eclectic/bohemian. Anyone interested in booking any private rental really needs to bear in mind its age and style and if you were looking for a modern apartment this isn’t for you.

A purely personal but honest opinion. I felt I was walking into someone else’s flat rather than a rental as there were shelves with empty carriers, half used soap bars in bathroom, etc. Felt the property and furnishings were tired and could do with a real deep clean although everything was surface clean. The shabby grass area in the back garden is probably the reason no one uses the barbecue area. As a base it was great but I didn’t cook in it and didn’t feel comfortable sitting in it. For the price I would have expected far better and felt it was like living in a 2 star hotel standard for 4 star prices. I wouldn’t re-book or recommend to family or friends. A hard lesson learned for future holiday bookings but not enough to dampen my enthusiasm for New Orleans which was simply out of this world!

Great place to stay....

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time. The place is small but quaint. Plenty of room for our two couples. Fun little bar (Friendly Bar) across the street and a few houses down. Great little breakfast place (Cake Cafe) down the street one block. Very easy walking distance (5 minutes) to Frenchman Street which is full of Jazz Bars and Restaurants. About a ten to fifteen minute walk to Bourbon Street. We used Uber to get there for about five dollars and walked back at night with no problems. The architecture in the neighborhood is beautiful and most people were very friendly. Had one neighbor two doors down who was rude and made it obvious she is not happy with VBRO (we just ignored the old lady :-) Rented bikes for the day and toured the neighborhood, French Quarter, and biked along the Mississippi River. We did a swamp boat tour through Ultimate Swamp Boat Tours and they were very nice (about 25 minute drive from the house). Went for a tour at the Oak Alley Plantation (little over an hour drive), was beautiful. Drove to the lower 9th ward to see damage from Katrina and toured some cemeteries. All in all, we were very satisfied with our home for the week and would definitely stay there again. Pete - Upland, CA

Quaint, Clean in a great location!

  • 4 of 5

What a wonderful stay! The pictures do not do this property justice. The high ceilings, perfectly placed molding, shotgun style & heavy Doors remind you that you are living like a "local" in the Big Easy. It truly is in a great location, super close to many restaurants & clubs yet far enough away that our sleep wasn't interrupted. We enjoyed delicious late night Sandwich & Tater Tot ( yes, Tots with toppings, YUM!!) eats at "13" & also a lovely breakfast at the "New Orleans Cake Cafe & Bakery". We waited for a bit at the bakery but not too long - keep in mind that you wait on line, give the waitress your name, order your food at the counter & then the waitress reserves your table for you. Your food is then brought out to you at your table. I mention it only because this system threw us for a loop at first but was perfectly fine once we got the hang of it. Our meal was worth every moment on line. Delish!

This home was also an easy & pretty walk to the French Quarter. I practically blinked & we were at the French Market. We were in town for a concert at the Smoothie King Center (311 day 2016 woohoo) & did use UBER to get to & from the shows. Quick & Easy ride around town by car even on a holiday weekend (St Patty's day parades throughout the city) , no complaints at all. The only slightly negative thing that I could say is about the shower. It was the perfect height for my friend & I but our Six foot plus Men had to crouch down a bit to wash. The water pressure was just so so but hey, It's an older home so it is to be expected. The beds were very comfortable with plenty of clean Linens. I am a stickler for clean rentals & this one one did not disappoint. All of that said, we had a GREAT time & would definitely stay in this hidden Gem again. We miss it already!
