Stanton Park Townhome Rental Photos and Description

1 King, 2 Twins (plus full sized baby crib)

INAUGURATION 2017: Pricing is configured as fixed fee for three days in case guests are searching on only the key dates, but it includes a full week stay. This property is so close you will only be a few blocks away and can forgo crowded transportation.

------------------------------------------

Built in 1896, this home retains all its historic charm yet has been brought up to date with an open concept main level and 21st century appliances. The location simply could not be better, as the home is on a quiet side street yet within a short walk of everything. It is only steps from a concentration of restaurants known as Restaurant Row, with tables out front by the sidewalk. Stanton Park, which is ideal for small children, is one block away. Union Station, from which virtually every sightseeing tour in Washington departs, is three blocks away, as are the Senate buildings, and immediately beyond them is the National Mall with major sights such as the Smithsonian museums and the National Archives.

Less than five blocks away:

- US Capitol

- US Supreme Court

- Library of Congress

- Folger Shakespeare Library

- Belmont-Paul Women's Equality museum

- Union Station

Within 1.5 miles:

- Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

- Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

- National Gallery of Art

- Smithsonian American Art Museum

- National Museum of the American Indian

- Hirshorn Museum (modern art)

- National Archives

- Verizon Center (Washington Wizards NBA team)

- Madam Tussaud's

- International Spy Museum

- Newseum

- US Botanical Garden

- National Building Museum

The home has been furnished for a family of four, but also has an optional twin-size and normal height inflatable bed for a fifth person. There is a crib, high chair, and stair gate for baby. It is ideal for a family with children who would like to visit sites such as the Smithsonian museums, the US Capitol, Supreme Court, National Archives, the Library of Congress, or the Newseum, among many others. Our neighborhood, Capitol Hill, is quiet yet so centrally located that the sites are within walking distance, a huge plus since none of them has parking. You will live like a local, walking one block to the grocery store with the house shopping cart, or getting around on DC's bright red public bicycles, which you can pick up at a bike rack close to the house.

Your rental includes a free permit for street parking. However, due to our proximity to the major tourist attractions we recommend not renting a car. We are walking distance to Metro and to most of the major attractions. Should you need a rental vehicle for a day to visit out-of-town sites, there are rental car offices minutes from the house.

Although we are steps from Restaurant Row, you will find the house equipped with a cook's kitchen. Whether it is a coffee grinder, a blender for margaritas, or a selection of spices, you will find it on hand.

Your rental comes with all linens, towels, a blow drier, a starter set of toiletries, etc. All you need to bring is a tooth brush!

So how to proceed?

We recommend using the 'Request Booking' button, which will confirm availability and provide a detailed quote before you reach the screen on which you are asked to commit. We book with the $150 cleaning fee, and the balance is due 30 days before arrival. All payments are self-service, via credit card or e-check using HomeAway's secure payments page. You do not need to provide us credit card information.

If we don't have your dates available, you may want to check our two other two-bedroom home, HomeAway property #339969.

About Alec Smyth

My wife and I are both management consultants who have traveled widely for decades, and have developed a strong sense of what we like in a locale and in accommodations. We actively manage our vacation rentals as a future retirement plan, but we select and prepare them by asking a simple test question -- would we be happy to live in them ourselves?

Alec Smyth purchased this townhome in 2012

What makes this townhome unique

There is a lot to see in Washington, with over fifty museums, but unfortunately we feature the very longest commutes in the nation. The museums have no parking, which may be a deliberate strategy to reduce the number of cars. Capitol Hill is the area immediately surrounding the US Capitol, and because it is a historical conservation neighborhood of small houses that cannot be altered, it contains almost no hotels. By staying at a home on the Western edge of Capitol Hill, you are closer to the sites than at a hotel, and free from the hassles of commuting because everything is within walking distance. Quite aside from the convenience of the location, both house and neighborhood are charming.

Just perfect

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 4 traveling with our kids' grandmother and the house was just perfect for us. Much better than a hotel. The location is excellent, within walking distance to all major tourist attractions and very close to the railway station. The house is renovated and just beautiful with a large living space with a fireplace and a large fully equipped kitchen. Parking on the street was not an issue. It couldn't be better nor easier for us. Highly recommend it.

Perfect Capitol Hill Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

For my 1st trip to Washington, DC, I could not have hoped for a more perfect place to stay! Situated on a quiet street with lovely row houses, yet just minutes to the Capitol building, National Mall, restaurants, Eastern Market, this lodging was wonderful. Immaculate, super comfortable, well furnished, and with a great kitchen, if you, like me, enjoy cruising the weekend vendors at the Eastern Market, where you can assemble makings for great dinner.

Especially helpful are all the tips Alec provides along with check in instructions. I chose to use the bikes available for rent around town, and having a map of the various pick up/drop off points made it easier. He also provides links, a few restaurant recommendations, anything he can think of to make your stay easier and more enjoyable.

So while I could go on and on, suffice it to stay I had a 5 star stay and will be back as often as I can make the trek from the Northwest.

Thanks for making your home available to guests, Alec!

Janet

As Good As Advertized

  • 5 of 5

Four adults spent six days at the Restaurant Row House and had a great time. We were there to sightsee and the house is perfectly located for that: a five block walk to the Capital Building and the beginning of the Mall or three blocks to Union Station to catch every form of ground transportation necessary to get around the city. The house was well equipped and a comfortable environment to relax our tired legs at the end of each day. There are several restaurants within a couple of blocks, but you may want to take a short cab ride to find some of the better ones. We did have a car, but parked it on the street upon arrival and did not move it again until we departed. We would recommend this house to others and would consider staying there again should the opportunity arise.

Perfect location and a charming row house in a nice neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

I, my husband, adult daughter and 9-year-old grandson are already missing the "Restaurant Row" house. We stayed for a week to visit museums and memorials. The house is comfortable, has everything that you need and is in a lovely neighborhood. It is a 10 minute walk to Union Station, where you can catch the red line. The kitchen has everything and we enjoyed breakfast at home before our daily adventures and the dining room table was perfect for card and board games in the evening. The owners were exceptionally prompt in answering any emailed questions. We had such a great stay and we'll definitely be back!

Classy, Comfortable and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

Loved it! This is a very well kept and classy townhouse! The owner is the king of organization and provided all the info and support one would ever need. The place was clean and comfortable and I loved the little backyard courtyard. The neighborhood is picturesque, safe and quiet yet only a 10 to 15 minute walk to Union Station where one can get on a bus or train or the metro. All the major sights are within walking distance (1/2 to 1 1/2 miles) for most everyone except the sedentary. A bus circulates regularly around a loop encompassing all major government buildings and museums. Several great restaurants are within a few blocks. My favorite was the German restaurant. My only caution would be to ensure that going up and down stairs is not a problem. The bedrooms are upstairs and steps are typical of townhomes, a bit steep for anyone with physical issues. I will definitely stay here again!

What a fabulous place to stay! The house is clean, comfortable and perfect for a visit to DC!

  • 5 of 5

The house is the perfect place to stay in DC. It is close to most of "the sights" and there are wonderful restaurants around the corner. You can literally park your car and see and do everything! In addition Alec is so easy to work with- quick to respond and very accommodating! We definitely recommend this property!

The house is located on a quiet side street street only steps from Restaurant Row, a block of restaurants with tables right on the sidewalk, and one block from Stanton Park, which is ideal for small children. Union Station, the epicenter of tour excursions, is only three block from the house.

Capitol Hill is a historical conservation neighborhood of beautifully maintained, charming old houses. It has a small-town feel and a human scale, is cosmopolitan, and has a thriving cultural scene. The residential area closest to Washington's institutions, it is home to a large number of politicians and VIPs.

The Senate buildings are only three short blocks from the house, and beyond them is the National Mall with the principal tourist attractions of Washington.
