Another Day in Paradise! Only steps to the Beach!

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq ft
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

2 bed/2 bath condo sleeps 6 - oceanview and a few steps to beach!

Beautiful remodeled/redecorated condo with gorgeous ocean view! Drift off to sleep while listening to the water running in the lagoon just below. This is my second home, so, I have taken care to make it beautiful and comfortable. I also own the condo next door. I bought it so that (if desired) you and I can host larger gatherings of family and friends. The two condos can be rented separately or together if you need more space.

The kitchen is fully equipped and offers stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and tile floors. There are 3 large flat screen TV's with cable, DVD players, Washer and Dryer, Iron and Ironing board, all linens including beach towels, CD and Ipod station, Wi-Fi. Everything was replaced- including tubs and toilets! There is a jet tub in the Master Bath. The Master bedroom has a king size, memory foam bed. The second bedroom has a queen bed and a loft twin bed with memory foam mattresses, too. I also have a Frontgate Inflatable queen bed that can be set up in the main living area. Frontgate is the premier inflatable bed. It automatically inflates itself and expands with a frame that sits up off the floor at normal bed height. In the morning, it automatically deflates and folds itself up. This bed is leaps and bounds more comfortable than a sleeper sofa. Other amenities include hardwood floors, leather sofas, a large balcony, etc.

On site, the resort offers 3 pools - one beach side pool, a large family pool with a kiddie pool and an indoor pool with a hot tub. There is an exercise room, tennis courts, shuffle board court, swings, playground and several grilling areas. The resort is located in a very secluded part of the Island between two historical parks. It is in a Bird and Wildlife Santuary. Walk out on the pier and you might catch the dolphins playing nearby! The beach is in a protected area which ensures that it is always be natural, unspoiled and beautiful. The city of Hilton Head Island recently completed a "beach restoration" project and increased the size of our beach. It is beautiful! Our location at the mouth of the Port Royal Sounds slows down the tidal current. It is perfect for small children and those who don't care for large strong waves. Our beach front is perfect for walking along in the surf, building sand castles, finding treasures along the beach and enjoying nature. Little ones love our beach because we do not have the strong waves. At high tide, the depth gets to about 5 ft for a very long way out....well, as far as Kenny has ever ventured out. I don't go into the ocean anywhere. I know there are critters in the water that I do not want to share space! If you want the bigger waves to surf or play in, there are several nice beaches along the Atlantic shore line very close by - as are 20+ public golf courses! You will also find several grocery stores, unique shops, chain stores and every type of food and restaurant you can imaging within 2 miles. The Tanger Outlet Mall in just a short drive back over the bridge to the mainland. And, we have a brand new Mall on the Island.

One of my favorite things to do is rent bikes. The trails take you all over the Island without being on the roads (except to cross them). It's a nice, easy, level ride and a great way to explore the Island. The rental companies deliver the bikes to the resort and pick them up when you are finished.

About Sheila Leggett

We currently live in the foothills of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains. We love the mountains and the ocean! This is our second home and our "happy place." My passion is writing and this place is the perfect retreat to clear my mind and sooth my soul.

Sheila Leggett purchased this condo in 2011

Why Sheila Leggett chose Hilton Head Island

I have vacationed in Hilton Head many times and have always loved the atmosphere. Everything is so clean, beautiful and natural. I chose this resort because it is truly a hidden treasure. Tucked away from the busy tourist areas, this resort offers a secluded and unspoiled beach. I love walking along the beach at low tide searching for treasures the tide has left behind. I just couldn't imagine a home at the beach without being able to see the water. I was very fortunate to find the perfect spot with a beautiful view of the ocean...during the summer, I can watch the sun disappear into the sea. Sitting on the balcony drinking my morning coffee, I watch boats entering and leaving the Port Royal sound.

What makes this condo unique

When I first visited the property, my daughter and I sat in the porch swing along side the beach and absolutely fell in love with this place. I knew this is where I wanted to be. I just had to wait until an water view unit became available. When my Realtor sent me a photo of the view from this unit, I couldn't believe it. The balcony overlooking the gardens and lagoon leading out to the beach was perfect! I told her to go into the unit and make sure the photo was actually taken from this unit. It was and I bought the unit sight unseen! I knew I could 'fix' the interior but I could never replace the view!

Very clean, beautiful condo well appointed

It was good!! Loved the condo!!! We were very disappointed that the pool was closed. The pool ceiling was falling apart. We booked this location for the pool. That really stunk

Owner's Response: The HOA is remodeling our indoor pool facility, which is including taking down the existing ceiling and walls and installing a new material made for indoor areas where there is a lot of humidity (such as a heated pool and spa). The original plan was to start this project around the same time the outdoor pools re-open. The falling of one of the existing ceiling panels caused the board to start the project sooner than expected. No one wanted to risk something falling on a person. We had no prior notice. Good new is that we will have a beautifully remodeled indoor pool, spa, sauna and exercise room for all to enjoy very soon! Sheila

Not good for those with kids

  • 1 of 5

For the price, this is a decent place to stay but several things made our stay more challenging. From the little things (no extra paper towels, no soap to wash dishes), to more annoying things (batteries in 2 remotes were dead, no remote to work the tv rendering the dvd player unusable which made it impossible for christmas movie watching), to the really annoying (downstairs neighbor has minimal tolerance for normal level of kid noise at reasonable hours, 8pm). If we had reserved the place in the summer i would have been more disappointed as the beach is not conducive for easy access or swimming (low tide is literally yards away).

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to Hilton Head and we wanted some rest and relaxation - we are not golfers or shoppers which is what most people do on the island. The Island itself is a bit chaotic so we were very happy with our choice to stay in this condo unit. It was like being isolated from everything else going on. The beach is quite unique and we really enjoyed it. Very shallow, so low tide gives you a wide, wide beach. Many days we were the only ones walking on it. At its busiest there were maybe 10-12 people besides us.

The condo is as advertised. Very clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. We enjoyed watching the birds and butterflies from the balcony. It was just the two of us so we had lots of room. No issue with downstairs neighbors but we were very sensitive to how easy the noise can travel. We did hear some walking around upstairs from us as well - nothing that would be bothersome but it was obvious it could be a problem if we had a lot of people or were running around.

This was a good spot for some daytrips to Savannah and other nearby locations. I would recommend it but know what you want out of your trip. There are higher end condo's for sure - at a much higher price- but unlikely to give you this much privacy. This was at one end of the island so depending on what you want to do it could be a bit of a drive to get to the other side.

If you have kids, stay AWAY!!!

  • 2 of 5

Let me just say that had I read the review posted in June, I would have cancelled and chosen a different place to stay. We too had the unfortunate experience of the downstairs neighbors. We have an angel of a two year old, who isn't noisy, doesn't yell or cry, doesn't throw tantrums. She does however walk heel first which does make noise, and also likes to jump. Just being a normal toddler. So how upsetting it was when security shows up on our doorstep and stated we had a noise complaint. I asked him what was the problem and all he would tell us was that there was a complaint filed for noise. I then asked him what we were supposed to do, she's 2, that's what she does. I also stated that she was in bed long before the imposed quite time of 10 pm. He just told us we needed to "take care of it". So we too spent the rest of our vacation reprimanding our daughter who did not understand at all why she couldn't jump or do what she normally does. It was all really upsetting. We even went downstairs and knocked on their door to see what exactly was the problem, of coarse, they didn't answer. We came to the conclusion that the rooms are just noisy because the people above us sounded like they stomped when they walked. Also, the room had a funny smell that we eventually tracked down to the air conditioner. It seems that the filter hasn't been changed for a while, there was a large amount of dust on the wall near each air register. The mattress is absolutely terrible, it sinks in the center. The eggcrate topper only makes the problem worse. The beach is private, but when the tide is out, it was such a long walk our daughter asked to leave after just 2 trips out. Also the water is really dirty during this time as well. The sand here is not good for playing in, it's mainly shells. There are also lots of oyster shells on the beach and in the water that are really sharp and I and my daughter cut our feet. We did drive to Dressen beach a couple of times and really enjoyed that beach. Parking is terrible. The room is decorated nice and it was fairly clean other than the dust balls on the walls. All in all, I wish we would have went somewhere completely different.

Owner's Response: We are a multi-level complex (3 stories) and impact (jumping, running) does reverberate down. I understand how hard it is to keep a toddler still! I have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Most of the time small children are in bed prior to adult bedtimes, which helps. I have a service that cleans my ac and changes the filter every 90 days. I was not told there was a problem, but I will have them check this. One thing I've learned owning beachfront property is that it changes almost daily. Some times you have more shells than others. Some times they are broken and some times they are nice big whole shells. Winds, storms obviously impact this. Most people love our beach. I know I do and so do my grandchildren.

Beautiful place and family friendly (for the most part).

  • 4 of 5

My family and I just returned home from vacationing at The Spa on Port Royal. This was our first trip to Hilton Head Island, and we would love to return in the future. Sheila's condo is beautifully decorated and is in a convenient spot located near all the pools and the sound. While small, there was still plenty of room for four adults and two children.

During low tide, there is ample room to explore the beach. We found several beautiful sea shells and stumbled upon lots of horseshoe crabs, fiddler crabs, conch, and other various things. The beach at the sound is very kid friendly. The sand is not the typical white sand beach you'd expect to play on and build sand castles. This is not a very good swimming beach as it is not very deep, but that was OK with me since my children are only three and five. We did venture to Coligny Beach for a day, and that was a lot of fun as well...very crowded though.

There really is nothing bad that I can say about this condo except for the fact that the downstairs neighbors were very rude and unfriendly. They are the only reason I'm not giving this listing five stars. The first full day we were there they were banging on the ceiling, however, I didn't realize that was the noise I was hearing until the next night. This time the lady was knocking on the door at 8:30p telling us to keep the pitter patter of feet down. Apparently my two girls (5 and 3) were having too much fun playing hide and seek while on vacation. I didn't realize they were being so loud when they walked/ran. So, we spent the rest of the vacation reprimanding our children while we were inside the condo trying to keep them quiet, which still wasn't enough. They continued to bang on the ceiling which in turn really ticked me off because we were trying our best to keep the noise down, but anyone with small children knows that is almost impossible. I would love to visit this condo again, but may choose otherwise because of the neighbors.

Aside from that....we had a great time and really liked Hilton Head Island. There is plenty to do and would definitely recommend the condo for anyone wanting to visit the area...just keep a check on the pitter patter of little feet running around.

Wonderful comfortable condo with amazing views of the sound

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at many condos at the spa on port royal sound. This condo was definitely one of our favorites. The condo was very nice while still being comfortable. The beds were comfortable and ensured a great night of rest which is important to a relaxing vacation. We loved the location of the condo. Being on the second floor it has great views of the sound and the one set of stairs is easily walkable multiple times per day. The kitchen layout was nice and open and the appliances well cared for. We also loved that this condo still has an open air porch where many on the property are now screened in and enclosed. It was great for that early morning coffee while watching the beautiful water and listening to the fountains outside. Sheila was wonderful to work with and very responsive to questions. We frequent HH often both for work and for pleasure and will definitely return to this condo hopefully as soon as possible. For others trying to decide between staying on the beach and on the sound for the quiet I would urge you to give it a try. Driessen Beach access with affordable pay to park spaces is only a few minutes away with an easy boardwalk, bathrooms, showers etc. and then you get to return to your peaceful place at the spa. The only thing that might be improved is a few more pot/ pans in the kitchen but I am an avid cook and usually use everything in the cupboards when making a meal. For that first night in when renting I would highly recommend TJ's Take and Bake pizzas as a stop on your way into the condo to make settling in easy. Thanks again Sheila for letting us share your small piece of paradise.
