Located in the heart of Charleston's newly designed bed and breakfast corridor, this renovated luxury flat (Unit D) offers historic charm while providing modern conveniences for the sophisticated traveler, with its marble-tile baths and gourmet chefs kitchen. This flat is part of a circa 1910 bungalow. It is one of four rentals within the converted home, is located on the first floor and in the rear of the property. It's just blocks from the upper King Street Design District and nearby Medical University of South Carolina.

Eat and drink with the locals in the latest offerings from Charleston award winning culinary scene-all within blocks. Shop with the locals on Upper King Street, spend a day at one of our nearby beaches. Walk to venues for Spoleto Festival USA, The Food and Wine Festival, and the Bridge Run. This is the perfect home away from home for visitors to the Medical University of South Carolina, one of the country's premiere medical institutions located just 2 blocks away from this residential setting.

Additional information: off-street parking space for one mid-size or smaller vehicle. Large trucks & SUV's will not fit in this parking space.

About Matt Eldridge

I was born in Charleston. After graduating from The College of Charleston, I left Charleston, traveling and working at several resorts along the way. After two years and living in several different states, I realized what a special place Charleston was and decided to return home.

I took over as Innkeeper in 2012 after a successful career in sales and have loved it ever since. The best part of what I do is having the privilege to meet many of our guests who have traveled from places near & far to enjoy the city I love.

Why Matt Eldridge chose Cannonborough Elliotborough

We love the Cannonborough-Elliotborough Neighborhood, which is located just west of Upper-King Street in Downtown Charleston. We purchased the property in 2007 as an opportunity to carefully renovate a unique Charleston home; bringing it up-to-date, while restoring it to it's original glory. It's been fun to be part of all the exciting changes that have taken place in the area over the years


What makes this condo unique

While extensive renovation of the property was completed in 2008, we worked hard to preserve the original character that gives it historic significance. We added modern conveniences, such as marble countertops, custom cabinetry throughout, new appliances in the kitchen, laundry facilities, upgraded electric, plumbing, and central heat & air. We carefully restored hard-wood floors, repaired crown molding and the diamond-grid windows. All of this allows our guests to stay in comfort in a property that has been part of Charleston since 1910.

The Rutledge Avenue Inn is owner-operated.

Perfect Charleston Get Away!

My husband and I came in town for a wedding and this was the perfect spot. It was within walking distance to king street and the farmer's market. The place was clean and cozy. It was prefect for a couple. We were able to enjoy the full kitchen for breakfast. We will be back FOR SURE! Love it here. Thanks again Matt for all your help!! 5 stars

Charleston Charm

My husband and I have visited Charleston many times but this is the first time we have stayed in a home in the downtown area (we typically stay on one of the islands). We were very please with the unit and found it to be quite comfortable. The Rutledge Inn has been nicely renovated and has all the charm of a Charleston home. As noted in a few of the reviews the parking is a bit tricky, however you can easily leave your car parked for your entire stay and walk to King Street or even use a taxi service to points of interest that are a bit further away. We will definitely consider the Rutledge Inn for future visits.

This is Truly a “Home Away”

The pictures were not air brushed, it is as nice as it looks. All of the furnishings were clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. The appliances were upscale Bosch and Jenn-Air and marble counters.

If you have never been to Charleston, parking is at a premium in the historic districts, but is provided here. A friend of mine was staying at a hotel and was paying $17 per day.

Wow. This worked out well.

An Uber driver picked up at Charleston International and drove us to the historic charm of the Rutledge Avenue Inn. What a slice of serendipity on both counts. We had never used Uber. We had never been to the South. Now we will be revisiting both. We figured a rental car might be handy, but it was too expensive for one week. So we took Uber everywhere, and we spent less money. And the Inn turned out to be more than we expected. Beautifully renovated and maintained. Best kitchen we've used in an VRBO. Gentrifying area with a lively business community. It was quiet at night, but active during the day. We love Hominy Grill, across the street. Ate dinner with drinks and beers during a thunderstorm. We also enjoyed Fuel (lunch and dinner), the Bearded Cafe Express (for morning coffee), Xiao Bao Biscuit (for dinner) and Trattoria Lucca (for amazing Italian dinner). We actually walked from the downtown district back to the Inn -- a couple of miles. But Uber can do it in 10 to 12 minutes for $6 to $8. No fighting traffic. No parking hassles. And, get this, they picked us up at 4:30 a.m. to catch an early flight. Right on time.
