Local Services & Businesses
Great location, very helpful team, unit small (right for the price), but dirty and thin walls!
Perhaps it was a letdown coming from a nice hotel, but our initial impression of the property was disappointing. The photos accurately depicted the apartment, but overall unit was much smaller (for example bathroom). Also the lighting (stark fluorescents) and fixtures (couch, chairs) were very minimal. Our greatest issue was the dirtiness of the unit when we arrived. We swept the floor (a ton of hairs) and cleaned the bathroom area before we could begin to unwind. Not the best first impression.
Another negative was the sounds we heard while in the unit. When we arrived, there was a symphony of barking dogs (around 6pm) - which fortunately was only this time of day (each day). Also, whenever the residents next door (or above us), used the bathrooms, we heard every shower, toilet flush and other noises. This included around midnight the first night, and early morning (say 6am) the following days.
On the positives - once we had adjusted to the facility, we had an outstanding time. The location was excellent - right off the Alameda park and walking distance to Zocolo, many museums, shops, restaurants and Reforma area. We also had to remind ourselves of the price/night - which was very, very low.
Bruce and team were very responsive, and did provide a tea kettle which we had requested prior to arriving. Also, the unit had a safe in the closet, which was a plus!
Cesar was extremely helpful with assisting on pick-up from airport, showing us the entire apartment complex, and checking in on us after the earthquake shook the building and forced us to evacuate for about 30 minutes. He was very responsive to any questions we sent via WhatsApp, and did arrange for cars back to the airport.
All in All - a very, very nice trip, great price/value for the unit and location, but our experience would have been much better with a cleaner apartment and slightly better fixtures and furniture. The bed was very comfortable, but the bedroom only had room for the bed.
Wonderful apartment ideally situated
For our first trip to Mexico City we wanted to be close to Centro Historico. This was the perfect spot for us, just south of the beautiful and strollable Alameda Centraland within easy walking distance of the many fabulous museums and sites in the historic area. The apartment was very clean and overlooked a plant-filled inner courtyard. The bathroom and shower worked well and the mattress, while only a double, was firm and comfortable. Plenty of closet space and a small safe. The building is secure, requiring key card access coming and going. We felt completely comfortable here and it was nice being in a complex that locals call home. There is a convenient store on the first floor where you can purchase basics. If you want to really cook, we suggest walking a few blocks south to the Mercado San Juan where you will find a foodie's delight in fresh fish, produce, cheese, meats and bread. Bruce and Ricardo could not have been more responsive and helpful. Ricardo was our guide for a day at Teotihuacan. He is excellent. As a previous reviewer noted, the only downside to this Norte 104 property is that the bedroom butts up to an adjoining unit and conversation comes right through the wall. Nothing that a pair of earplugs didn't solve, and not enough of an issue to stop us from returning. This is a true value for both location and amenities and we would happily stay here again.
Very Enjoyable Stay! We will return.
This was our second stay in the Puerta Alameda Condo Building in the Historic District. The first time was with a different owner in a tower closer to Avenida Juarez. This unit is in a tower away from the traffic noise, it faces a courtyard and is small, but fine for two people. We have been visiting Mexico City for over 30 years staying in different areas and types of accommodations. We spent twelve days over Christmas in the unit. When we arrived the condo was thoughtfully well-stocked with soaps, tissues, paper towels, bottled water etc. We received a tour of the building which has a parking space (we didn't use) and a cell-phone for our use. There is 24 hour security, a small convenience store on the first floor which we used daily for ice, fresh fruit, etc. without having to leave the building. There is also a laundry/dry cleaner, but the unit does have a washer-dryer.We were familiar with the area so did not need tours or a driver, but it is a nice convenience for first-time visitors.
The unit has all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. The addition of two portable heaters was welcome for December nights. Most homes in Mexico do not have heat. The management was very responsive when we needed assistance.
This area, Centro Historico, is perfectly suited for a first-time visitor. It is safe, there is always a presence of police, and there have been vast improvements in every way over the years. One could spend a week or more just in the Alameda and Zocolo area as there are so many museums and historical buildings. There is every type of food (yes, even Chili's, Burger King and Starbucks for the unadventuresome). You can't go wrong with Sanborn's, Toks, or VIPs for inexpensive, reliable but authentic food. El Cardenal on the 1st floor of the Hilton across the street from the condo is a must. They grow their own produce and make their own cheese.
The reason we did not give the property five stars is not the fault of the owner, but the construction of the building. The walls are very thin and when in bed we could hear the people talking in the unit next to us. I believe their bed was against the same wall. Fortunately they were otherwise not noisy.
This condo is a great value versus the cost
Wonderfully kept apartment in perfect location
This was one of the best stays we have had through many years of VRBO renting. The staff were friendly and helpful and very accommodating. You can walk to many of the highlights from the apartment and it is very safe. Ricardo tour services were fantastic and his passion for what he does is evident and made the excursions exciting.
Great location, secure building, many amenities.
We felt safe there and the location was ideal. Best unexpected amenity was a local cell phone that we could use to call cabs or for help with anything. Local supermarkets for food to prepare in-house were lacking. Cornelius, our reception host, was very informative and helpful. Only downside was the taxi fare from the airport. At $25 USD, this amounted to 488 pesos, while the standard taxi rate to the airport is only 250 pesos. So we got charged double for this one-way service, and our driver had us waiting an hour at the airport before he showed up. Not a good deal at all, take a regular taxi. I do see that having good communication with Cornelius enables him to be there when we arrive, but this seems to be a benefit that accrues only to the property manager. And Cornelius was called away for another arrival in the midst of our orientation tour.
Oh, one more thing. There were mosquitoes visiting us ever evening. Lots of ads on local Mexican billboards about preventing their spread. A decorative pond in the center of the apartment block might have been their source. Cornelius promised us an electric plug-in device to deter them, but never delivered it. We resorted to chemical repellents.
I'd recommend this but take the Secure Cabs, 250 pesos, and bring repellant.
We very much appreciate when a guest provides us with their comments and lets us know how we can improve our service. We sincerely apologize that our driver arrived late and for the inconvenience caused to the guest. Our drivers pride themselves on being on time to receive our guests at the airport. We offer this executive transportation service at a very low price (at cost). The service is optional, and guests can always choose to hire a taxi at the airport which might save them about $10 - $15 USD. We have found over the years that the vast majority of our guests enjoy having a member of our team greet them at the airport and take them directly to the apartment for easy check-in.
Regarding the mosquitoes, the guests stayed during the rainy season, and we failed to provide the guest with an electric insect repellent as promised, and for this, we sincerely apologize.
As a team, we are always looking for ways to serve our guests better, and we take to heart any shortcomings that might occur during a guests stay. We have grown exponentially over the last few years because of our desire to make our guests stay most enjoyable.
Conveniently located condo with a great staff!
I spent a terrific long weekend in Mexico City at this property. The location is excellent - right by Bellas Artes and a short walk to the Zocalo. Bruce's staff was excellent I was travelling solo and they were very welcoming and helpful, including helping me arrange a tour that I enjoyed very much. Super responsive. I was impressed with how proactive everyone was.
The only downside would be a shortage of cooking supplies if you were spending an extended time and actually wanted to cook, but I didn't find that particularly important for a short stay.
I hope to spend future long weekends here. :)
