This 100 year old residence, approximately 14,000 square feet in size, will comfortably accommodate 18 to 20 people or more. There are 11 primary bedrooms, with 20 beds (including four kings, five queens). In addition to these 11 larger bedrooms, there are also modest bedrooms (originally designed as maids' bedrooms), each of which have single beds--great place to stash teenagers. The residence includes a very large living room (approx. 2,000 square feet) and a large dining room, along with a spacious, well-equipped kitchen, including three refrigerators. Upstairs and downstairs laundries. Distant ocean views and Napeague bay views from our second floor, and a long view towards Montauk--our house is on the highest point for quite a few miles in either direction.
We do not rent to prom parties or any other underage group events.
The grounds include a tennis court (Har-Tru surface) and a large swimming pool with a jacuzzi.
Seven full bathrooms and two half bathrooms. 5 oversize bathtubs. Two outdoor showers. Pool table, ping pong table, piano, and a large Weber Genesis model grill.
The property has a significant history as the largest of the four 'Devon Colony' estates in Amagansett, built as grand summer homes in 1909 by four families from Cincinnati, Ohio, who also founded the Devon Yacht Club on the waterfront, one-third mile down the hill. The exterior of the residence is an Italianate style. The interior features Mission Style (Arts & Crafts) furniture, beautiful oak flooring and a grand staircase.
The residence is located on a four acre estate in Amagansett, NY, approximately 2 miles east of the center of town. The immediate neighborhood is a quiet estate area. Most homes are on three or more acres in a wooded setting.
There is easy access to the famous Amagansett ocean beaches (one mile away) as well as beautiful beaches on the bay side near Devon Yacht Club and Napeague (a mile or less). Ten miles of pristine ocean beach in either direction. East Hampton is six miles west, with many boutique shops. You will be perfectly positioned for night life and restaurants in three Hamptons towns--East Hampton, Amagansett and Montauk. In East Hampton, after shopping, dine at Nick and Toni's, East Hampton Grill, 1770 House or other fine restaurants. In Amagansett listen to live entertainment at Stephen Talkhouse, dine at Wollfers Kitchen, or savor morning coffee and food items at various places in Amagansett. Try the red-hot night scene in Montauk (10 miles east of our residence): Surf Lodge, Ruschmeyer's, The Sloppy Tuna. Or try the fresh seafood and watch the boats, waterside at Montauk's Gosman's Dock or the lesser-known Duryea's. Excellent kite surfing and windsurfing in Napeague (two miles east of our residence) at one of the best US sites for these two sports, followed by afternoon drinks at the Clam Bar, in the Napeague stretch minutes from our house.
You can dine well at home, choosing the best fresh seafood (try Stuart's in Amagansett) and five or six farm stands with local produce, along with numerous gourmet food and wine stores serving a highly sophisticated clientele.
For the arts, be sure to visit Guild Hall in East Hampton; or Parrish Art Museum about 20 miles away in Southampton. Browse numerous art galleries in East Hampton, Southampton, or Sag Harbor, along with frequent art fairs. Experience drip-painting at the small Pollock-Krasner House in Springs (15 minutes away)--call ahead to make a reservation. Tour the vineyards and wineries on the North Fork (an hour and a half each way, with two small ferry rides and lots of scenery).
Enjoy fishing in Montauk--the best fishing location on the East Coast--for striped bass and bluefish, or salt water fly fishing in the bays surrounding Amagansett, less than a mile from our house. Golf at Montauk Downs (open to the public), with ocean views (ten miles away), or walk through the fabulous Walking Dunes in Napeague (two miles away).
If you bring the kids, and we welcome them, they will find plenty to do at the house. They will also enjoy the Duck Pond Nature Preserve (10 minutes away), Fresh Pond with shallow water at the bay and a small stream (two minutes away), the Children's Museum in Bridgehampton (20 minutes away, with two Starbucks along the way) and maybe Dylan's Candy Bar in East Hampton. There are also two beautiful libraries with good children's sections, in Amagansett and East Hampton. You have two major saltwater choices for the family: the ocean, or the calmer waters at the bay. Our house is perfectly located between the bay and the ocean, a few minutes from both, at the narrrowest point in the Hamptons.
Our mission is to be the best value in the Hamptons for large groups who want many comfortable bedrooms and a great location for a full Hamptons experience, during the day and late into the evening. Great for family reunions, weddings, corporate retreats, or skip your next college reunion and have your college buds reune here with you. Our residence shows some of its age, which is why our rental prices are lower than one might expect for such a large home in a superior Hamptons location. Those who seek a flawless estate should look elsewhere, and be prepared to pay twice the price or more--if you can find one.
We do not have heat or Air-conditioning. The breezes on the hill keep the house quite comfortable.
