About Mary Carmel

This is Sallie's house. It was designed, built and decorated by a Pueblo pioneer and leader named Sister Sallie who was loved by all who were privileged to know her. Welcome to Sallie's Solar Home! Where Sallie insisted on top quality service and comfort. You are invited to Sallie's House as Your Own Home Away from Home - Anytime!

Mary Carmel purchased this house in 1985

Why Mary Carmel chose Southeast

This property is located on the threshold of a historic juniper forest within the most popular state park in Colorado known as Lake Pueblo State Park. Wildlife is abundant along with hiking trails, mountain biking rated tops in America and horseback riding trails. One reason Lake Pueblo is so popular is that it is not crowded with people. This area is serene, peaceful, quiet, private and pristine as there is no development in front of this property to obstruct the views of the lake, park, wildlife and mountain ranges nearby. Lake Pueblo features award winning gold water fishing that is considered among the very best in Colorado and the U.S.A. During winters, Pueblo's mild climate coupled with the consistent release of temperature constant waters from Lake Pueblo, creates the perfect environment for rewarding fly, lure and bait fishing where miles of shoreline are available. Arkansas river headwaters, rafting, the famous Royal Gorge Bridge, Pikes Peak-Colorado Springs attractions, and Cripple Creek (gambling) are within 30-90 minutes. The Historic Riverwalk of Pueblo, Pueblo's famous chile and frijole festival (3rd week of Sept.) and its numerous art galleries, fine authentic ethnic cuisines, and fun options are only 5-15 minutes away. Pueblo, Colorado is reknown as the 'Home of Heros' with more Congressional Medal of Honors than any other U.S. city with military attractions including the Center for American Values and the Wiesbrod Aircraft Museum.

What makes this house unique

This property offers a delightful balance of seclusion and privacy with convenient access to all that is loved in experiencing Colorado's adventure tourism. Lake Pueblo State Park conveniently located right outside the front door makes for fun exploring where you may find artifacts such as sea shell fossils, arrowheads, sharks teeth, and more as you see great horned owls, eagles, hawks, deer including fawn and bucks. Peace and quiet allows for quite a symphony of songbirds including blue jays, rare albino turtle doves, lots of quail and the delightful sounding meadowlark. Simply stated, there is no other property like this one of a kind Home that Sallie The Solar Pioneer built!

Amazing Views

We stayed at Sally's House for our nephew's graduation. From the first contact with Mary and Mark, we knew we made the right choice. The house is situated in a quiet, friendly neighborhood and although we were out and about a lot, it always felt like home when we returned. The house is clean and inviting and the views are spectacular.

This is a Dreamhouse! Beautiful views, privacy but close to ammenities. Wonderful landlords! We stayed four days and spent most of that time staring out the windows at the beautiful view. We ate out only once, since we had a kitchen we cooked! We wil return and recommend it to anyone.

Sallie's Fantastic Home

  • 5 of 5

This vacation home exceeded all of our expectations! Absolutely wonderful experience. Sallie's House is perfectly located for excursions to nearby cities for rafting, ziplining, heli-tours, and golf -between 5 and 45 minutes. This wonderful home is secluded and quiet, yet close enough to town for supplies, restaurants, & nightlife. This is such a beautiful, clean, & well-maintained home. We had so much fun watching the hummingbirds fight over the feeder on the south patio! Mule deer, quail, and rabbits also wandered by every day. The views to the south & west are absolutely stunning! The only complaint we can come up with is that it never got cold enough (in August!) to use the beautiful fireplace. Mark & Mary are wonderful hosts and the neighbors are great. We can't wait to come back "home" to Sallie's House.

Middle aged couple with grown children

We were very pleased with Sally's house. Mark and Mary were so friendly and eager to help. Our smallest request was granted. They found us a pack and play for our granddaughter and an air mattress was even provided and made before we arrived. Truly felt welcome after a long day of travel.

The house is close to restaurants yet had a very private environment. Immaculate would be an understatement. The luxurious carpet overall was very comfortable. We were even able to let our 2 yr old grandchild to go up and down the stairs, because of the thickness of the carpet. Out-side one could see forever. Truly a great retreat!

Great House and Location!

We truly enjoyed our stay at Sallie's House. Mark and Mary (the managers) were most welcoming and helpful. They greeted us at the house (they live close by - they are not long distance property managers, which is great) and showed us around. The house is immaculate, updated, and has anything you could ever need for a stay away from home. The view of the lake and mountains is unobstructed. The house is especially private and quiet. No traffic noise here! We used the wood stove on a chilly night - how wonderful! Sallie's House is close to everything and Mark and Mary offered wonderful dining and sightseeing ideas. Three of us were there to fly fish the South Arkansas River, which was a maximum of 20 minutes away. The next time we are in Pueblo, this is where we will stay. In fact, we would organize a vacation there based upon availability of Sallie's House. We loved our stay!
