Property type cottage

About the property

Romantic one-bedroom cottage shaded by mature pine trees.

What makes the Pinecone Cottage so special? Where to start? The price is amazing, just $99 per night! It's only a short distance from Bear Mountain, with plans to open this weekend for skiing, snowboarding and snow play. There's a chef's kitchen in the cottage that's perfect to prepare a full dinner or a small snack. No need to spend time fighting traffic or long lines at our town's handful of restaurants.

Inside, there is an eclectic mix of old-world treasures, rustic American antiques, as well as all the modern conveniences one expects in a vacation home. In addition to WiFi, there are hundreds of channels to surf on the TVs in the living room and bedroom. The cottage has a good supply of DVDs and CDs, plus many games and books to enjoy during your stay.

There are TVs and DVD players in the living room and bedroom. if one of the two of you MUST NOT MISS any of the big football games this weekend. Also, if you want to head for Big Bear first thing in the morning, you can check-in as soon as you get into town.

There's a wonderful gas fireplace in the living room controlled by a simple remote. No fussing around trying to get a fire started. Another feature that attracts guests is the large bedroom with its queen bed and Sleep Number mattress that allows each of you to find your best comfort level in just a few seconds. Next to the queen bed is a built-in desk tucked under a bay window that fills the room with light. If you have to get some work done during the weekend or check in with your scattered family and friends by Skype, this is an ideal location to do it. Your laptop or smart phone and our simple WiFi connection is all you need.

Just because the cottage is cozy, it doesn't mean the eat-in kitchen is lacking anything to prepare your own meals. Much care was taken to utilize every square inch of space in this kitchen, which includes a microwave and four-burner stove and oven for larger meals. There's also a full-size frig. Plenty of cabinet space below and above gleaming black granite counter tops hold all the pots and pans you will need to make that a great dinner, for two. A coffee maker, blender and toaster -- even a crock pot -- are included. The vaulted ceilings, covered in a rich T&G honey pine planks, make you realize you are in the mountains. The same shade appears on the wood floors.

Even your morning shower can be an adventure in the Pinecone Cottage. The tub has a rain forest shower head, plus a second hand-held rinsing nozzle. There's a hair dryer, of course, plus plenty of plush towels, soap and shampoo. You'll even find cotton balls!

Pinecone Cottage is located on the east end of Big Bear Valley. The lake, village and ski slopes are just a 10-minute drive away. But our guests love the peace and quiet of the neighborhood where the cottage is located. After all, you'll find yourself in the middle of a serene forest filled with pine trees and oaks. In fact, there are so many pine cones in the private, fenced backyard, bring a bag and take all you need for the approaching holidays.

Take a moment to review the many positive comments from former guests, making the Pinecone Cottage a five-star property. We love our pets as much as any fur-loving parents, but the Pinecone Cottage has a no pet policy so couples who suffer from dog dander need not worry about shedding hair. Also, the maximum occupancy in the cottage is two individuals to reduce the chances of breakage to the antiques and one-of-a-kind objects you will find here. However, if you are traveling with another couple and your pooch, there is a larger cabin on the property you might consider. The VRBO number is 910805.

Call our toll-free number today -- 888-424-5211 -- or send a request to book the charming Pinecone Cottage for you and that special someone. You're bound to create memories for years to come.

About The Owner

Pine Cone Cottage is a joint effort of three gentlemen. Each of us moved to California from different parts of the United States. One by one we found our way to Big Bear. Each of us fell in love with the mountain lifestyle and with the community of Big Bear. One of us was a real estate instructor, one was a registered nurse and one was a top producing sales manager for a leading company of home products. Each of us loves this community and it is our sincere desire that you be able to experience the same joy while in Big Bear. Each of us is a "people person" and will do what we are able to ensure that.

Pictured here is David Gurzenski and his two grandsons Jake and Drew. He acts as property manager, and will be the individual who helps you set up your reservation and will be your contact person if you have any questions about the cottage.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1995

Why The Owner chose Sugarloaf

Even though this property was purchased some 20 years ago, this vacation rental did not even exist. First a carport and then a storage shed. it grew to be a guesthouse for family and friends. Now it is a four-room cottage with all the amenities you should need to be comfortable. The cottage is now filled with a fine collection of treasures gathered from trips throughout Europe, or discovered in corners of quaint local antique shops. The final result has impressed each of the couples who have enjoyed staying in the cottage. Many of them have been so moved by the experience that they have added their glowing comments on the review page of this listing, making it a five-star rated VRBO property.

What makes this cottage unique

California is a unique state. Where else can you experience the ocean, the desert and the mountains all in one day. When you wish to choose the mountains to decompress from your fast paced life in SOCAL, we want to be your choice for lodging. Pinecone Cottage is designed to be relaxing and even romantic (if need be). Don't hesitate to ask for any special requests or needs. If you want the cabin decorated for a special problem. We have even put flowers and champagne ahead of arrivals. It is our desire that you be so happy with your stay with us that you will join the many others who have become returning guests.

Car: necessary

The Pine Cone Cottage is located within walking distance to the Sugarloaf park. Basketball courts, tennis courts, skateboard ramps, and a softball diamond are among the many sporting activities available. You really get a feel for what living in Big Bear is like from the small bedroom community of Sugarloaf. Surrounding properties are a rich collection of second homes, full-time residences and other vacation rentals. Yet it is only a 7-to-12-minute drive to all of Big Bear's main attractions.

Just ok...

  • 3 of 5

The place is small, and a bit dated. We found dirty cookware in the cabinets. I'm sure it is from previous renters, but it should be checked after each use. The sheets on the bed were old and stained. Expect to have sap drip on your car while parked in front of the unit. Pine trees are beautiful, but unfortunately drip sap. The price is reasonable, but the stay is just ok....

Owner's Response: I am quite surprised by this three-star review of the Pinecone Cottage. Of more than 50 reviews that appear here, this is the first three-star review we have received. There have only been a handful of four-star reviews. All the rest have been five-star reviews. In our written instructions to all of our guests, we ask them to call us in the first day of their stay, and let us know if there is anything that does not meet their expectations. It's impossible to respond to any complaints long after a guest's departure. This couple was in the cottage Oct 27 and 28, and it was only yesterday, Nov 19, that we received this negative review. Had we been notified immediately when these guests discovered these problems, we would have gone over to the property (we live a 10-minute drive away) and corrected all the issues presented in this review. We would have removed the dirty dishes and pointed out the kitchen cabinets contain several other clean place settings. We also would have pointed out the extra sets of sheets and towels in the closet of the cottage. We even would have brought over a stain remover and cleaned their car. While guests have never raised this complaint before, once or twice sap has fallen on our car when parked in the driveway. This cleaner did a great job of dissolving the sap without any damage to the car's surface. This couple knew they were renting a one-bedroom, full-bath property. There are some two dozen photos with our listing that show the size of the rooms and quality of the furnishings. Never has a former guest described it as "small" or "dated." There are plenty of newer and larger properties in Big Bear, but at a nightly rate much higher than the $79 a night rate this couple paid. The cottage is licensed to hold a maximum of two people, and former guests are usually attracted to the old-time charm, romance and intimate seclusion our "cottage" provides. We ask potential guests to read the some of the many five-star reviews written by former guests. They rave about the cozy size of the cottage, its many amenities not found in other properties they have rented, and the very reasonable rate they paid for their delightful accommodations. David

Charming and Quiet Cottage-The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely cottage, close to all the activities Big Bear Lake offers. The cottage has everything you could possibly need. It is very well appointed and in a beautiful setting with tall pine trees. A very cute, romantic getaway. The cottage was very clean, the Wifi and cable worked perfectly. The kitchen is so well stocked for extensive cooking. There are plenty of linens and the fireplace was so nice in the evenings. I would give more than 5 stars if I could.

David was extremely prompt and kind when I first inquired about this property. I was supplied with very specific directions to the cottage, he greeted me upon arrival and bent over backwards to make me feel welcome. The three owners are very willing to answer questions anytime and give great advice about activities, restaurants or any other area information. I feel very fortunate to have found this property to rent. It was a perfect 4 days. Thank you!
