This one-of-a-kind Springville, Indiana cabin offers accommodations for up to 4 guests and an array of modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay for couples or small families. Visit in the summer and fall to attend fun events in nearby Solsberry!

Cupola Bedroom: 2 Twin Memory Foam Beds | Living Room: Futon with Pillowtop Topper

The moment you arrive at this enchanting, full-size 1968 railroad caboose, you'll fall for its forested, rural location, ensuring a quiet, peaceful stay. During your time here, wildlife may frequent the area, making this slice of Indiana's beautiful wilderness all the more captivating. Throughout your stay, you'll fall asleep to the sound of crickets chirping and wake to melodies of birds singing.

The interior of the caboose features a plethora of unique amenities, including a fully equipped kitchen with complimentary coffee, tea and bagels with condiments, a half bath, an original desk and 5 original railroad chairs, along with several modern features, such as a TV with DVD player, electric wall heaters and 2 window unit air conditioners.

Connected to the caboose via crossover walkway is a depot-shaped building with an all-around open porch complete with a gas grill and patio furniture. Inside the depot, you'll find a full bathroom with a shower and laundry machines.

After days spent exploring 'Legacy Station Caboose's' surrounding natural splendor, return to the cabin to unwind before dinner. When you're not dining out, utilize the kitchen to whip up delicious home-cooked meals to enjoy around the quaint eating nook with a table for 2.

When the weather's nice, head out to the depot deck to dine al fresco while gazing out at the tranquil scenery as evening descends on the horizon. For dessert, roast some marshmallows around the firepit as the luminous stars shimmer overhead, completely undisturbed by city lights.

As day fades to night, you and your companion will love retreating to the 2 single-platform, beds, perched up high in the cupola! During the summer, you can open up all the windows and allow the fresh cross-breeze to provide a calming outdoor sleeping experience. Additionally, the futon in the living room area is affixed with a pillow topper, ensuring a comfortable stay for everyone in your group.

Although the caboose itself is sure to provide a memorable experience, the best part of this cabin is its unbeatable remote location, easily accessible from the interstate, allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds. The owner has even created an on-site hiking trail through the woods on the property, so you won't have to go further than a few feet to find outdoor fun!

This picturesque region is characterized by local roads with hills that drop into open valleys with grazing cattle, horses, deer and wild turkeys. Small towns, or just groups of charming houses, are abundant throughout the area, along with country churches.

When you stay here, you'll be close to popular Bloomington, as well as the small towns of Bedford, Nashville, and Bloomfield. You'll also be within 25 minutes of Indiana University and Lake Monroe and 15 minutes of Crane Naval Support.

Those visiting from July through October will surely want to make a trip to Solsberry, Indiana, located about 5 miles from the property. This quaint town offers numerous sculpting and metalworking festivals throughout the summer. Walk along the Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum to see unique artwork crafted by local artists. Afterward, stop by Yoho General Store for a slice of pie and experience small-town America!

When you're looking for some evening excitement, head over to the French Lick casino - within an easy hour-long drive - for some gambling, or pay a visit to the historic West Baden Springs Hotel in French Lick.

Other popular area activities include festivals, concerts, dining at tasty local restaurants, antiquing, shopping, golfing and wine tasting. Also, outdoors enthusiasts will delight in the hiking, fishing and boating options at the nearby state parks.

There are enough options at the property and in the surrounding areas to keep every member of your party happy and entertained. Certainly, you'll find yourself wanting to return to Legacy Station Caboose for another memorable Indiana getaway!

Very quaint, quiet and secluded, but close enough to many towns and essentials. Carol was extremely helpful and checked in on us the day of check in and check out to make sure we had the best experience possible. Would definitely come back.

Our stay at Caboose Irene was so perfect! The owners have went to great detail on restoring this caboose! They also were very accomodating providing us plenty of towels, sheets, and even morning snacks! This is also the first VRBO owners that really checked in with us to make sure we were satisfied along the way during our stay! If you're looking to do something out of the ordinary, you like camping and adventure, this is the place for you! WE LOVED THIS ADVENTURE!!!

Neat, quiet place to stay in southern Indiana

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in "Irene" the caboose for my daughter's graduation weekend at Indiana University in Bloomington, about a 16 mile drive. The owners met us on arrival and explained everything, then left us to the peace and quiet of the woods. They have made an effort to keep the caboose somewhat "rustic" and true to form, which adds to the atmosphere. However once there you will have everything you need. Just bring food, your toothbrush and a good attitude, and prepare to relax in the solitude of the woods. Overall a great experience!
