This 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo unit (B-4) is situated in a small condominium development called Dauphin Surf Club, located on the east end of Dauphin Island. The condo is comfortably appointed with a king-sized bed in the bedroom with attached bathroom, two twin beds in the second bedroom, adjacent to the second bathroom. The kitchen is equipped with electric stove, microwave, full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, coffeemaker, and all the dishes and cookware you need for your stay. The full-sized washer and dryer are also in the kitchen area. The living room is light and airy, furnished with a full sofa, love seat, recliner, and flat-screen TV (cable and Wi-Fi connected). There is a dining table that seats six, as well as a breakfast table that seats four. Just off the king bedroom is the Gulf room which has a futon that folds out as an extra bed or the perfect place to lounge. The condo has free WiFi and free long-distance phone calls. By condo association by-laws, we are only able to rent by the week; no shorter rental periods are available.
John, Kathy, and Sophie Barker live in Memphis, while Kathy's mom, Connie, lives in the Nashville area. The Barkers lead a busy life with John working in the education field, Kathy working in the research field, and Sophie in middle school. Connie is a retiree who enjoys spending her time with grandchildren and traveling far and near.
Connie Young purchased this condo in 2012
The Barkers started vacationing at Dauphin Surf Club ten years ago and instantly fell in love with the relaxing pace, beautiful beaches, and wonderful hospitality on DI. The next year Connie joined the fun, and we all agree that we couldn't imagine any place that we would rather spend our vacation. When the opportunity to own a bit of paradise arose, we jumped at the chance. And now we are glad to share our home-away-from-home with you.
With our hectic schedules, any place where we can get away from it all is a plus! What we've found with B-4 is that we can actually feel our bodies relax as we reach the island, and once we open the door of the condo our stress melts away. Whether gazing out at the Gulf with a hot mug of coffee in the mornings, giggling and splashing at the pool in the afternoons, or strolling the sand and surf at sunset, we can't find a better way to rejuvenate and make those precious family memories than spending time on Dauphin Island.
This condo had everything we needed for two adults and four kids for the week. Stocked with dishes, pans, towels, games, beach and pool toys. We got fresh caught fish and shrimp at Skinners and prepared almost all our meals there. Enjoyed going to the sea lab, fort, bird sanctuary, riding our bikes all over the island. We took a trip to Mobile and saw the USS Alabama and had lunch at Felix's. Having the washer and dryer in the condo was helpful too. The pool was nice. The beach is narrow in front of the condos but there is hardly anyone there, so no big deal! Overall a great time!
The day we arrived there was an issue with the air conditioner, within 30 minutes of notifying the owner it was repaired. The house was perfect for us, as we both have high stress jobs and looked for a no stress week. We enjoyed the stocked kitchen. The walk down to the beach was not even about 2 minutes. We enjoyed the dolphins, crabs, and other sea life we encountered along the way. The beach was smaller but perfect for relaxing. The manager Debbie was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely book again
This condo was a terrific place to stay. It had everything you need for your stay. Check-in time is after 4:00 in the afternoon and the office for the condo closes at 4:30, so if there is any issue, you have to wait until Monday to talk to the manager. The hot water was almost non existent, so we contacted the manager on Monday and she got someone out there very quickly. It turned out that the water heater was on its last leg. We had to wait until Tuesday to have it replaced, so we really had no hot water for 3 days, but we totally understand that the owners don't know something is wrong until they are informed about it, and response time was very quick. There was a storm Sunday night and the cable went out, once again it was back on late Monday afternoon and in plenty of time for the first game of the World Series.
The kitchen was well stocked. The washer and dryer were a great asset. They even provided the detergent. The dishwasher could probably use some new racks as the ones in there are rusting out.
You can see the ocean from the table off the living room area. The beach area has been mostly washed away, so you really had to go down to the West end to get some beach time in. Sounds like a ways away, but the island is only about 7 miles long, so it is not far.
The restaurants were very good. We went to JT's Sunset Grill, Barnacle Bill's, Islander Restaurant, and finally the day we left we got to go to the Lighthouse Bakery, they had been closed the whole week we were there but opened back up Saturday. There is a store on the main road coming onto the island. Their prices for food and beverages were quite reasonable, however we did our shopping in the town before we drove over the bridge. Walmarts are everywhere.
We were there in late October and there did not appear to be a lot of people there. The people we came in contact with were super nice. Pastor Cecil from the United Methodist Church was wonderful and performed our marriage ceremony.
We rode the fairy to Gulf Shores. The return trip was amazing. We called it our sunset cruise. What an amazing sunset we got to see out on the water.
We gave this rental a 5 star rating because the owners, and the management of Dauphin Surf Club were great. Issues were taken care of quickly as they arose.
Only thing I need to mention is that this is an upstairs condo, so if you don't do stairs well, you might need to look into a different condo.
Thank you John, Kathy and Debbie(mgr.) great time!
Our family had a really good time on the Island. Our condo was nice and clean. The management of our condo there was extremely nice and helpful. A lot of history on this island and surrounding area for history buffs like us.Seafood was excellent.
