Overview

About the property

1BR 1BA Cottage with a fantastic view

This private cottage is perfect for honeymooners, or anyone looking to escape the typical hotel scene. A complete home with lanai, kitchen, living and dining areas, full bath, and basic amenities will be your very own escape to paradise while still enjoying the accommodations necessary for any vacation. Not to mention your own private hot tub on the open lanai, a romantic scene for enjoying the pace and quiet and stargazing at night.

10/2015 We made several updates to the guesthouse including: sliding glass windows over kitchen sink, new bathroom tile, toilet, window screen, and paint in the bathroom, fixed a small roof leak, added a screen door on the front entrance, and put in a new electric cooktop. Our next project will be to repaint the living room!

Please note that Hawaii is slightly different from the mainland USA in that the state/people has their own sets of traditions, values, norms, and ways of life. Many things we take for granted in the mainland are not quite the same here in Hawaii. Sometimes variables like utilities, smells, noise, neighbors, cars, animal life, repair-times, etc just cannot be managed in the same manner as in other parts of the world. While we do our very best to insure a delightful and 100% positive vacation, please understand that some of reasons we love living and vacationing in Kona can occasionally be a bit inconvenient. Thank you for understanding. We look forward to hosting you!

Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

The Ohia Hale Guesthouse was everything we could desire. Secluded,

beautiful view, well equipped, clean, comfortable, nicely landscaped,

and functional. Driving down and up to and from the house from the main road

is a pleasant mini-adventure (paved all the way). The Captain Cook location was perfect for

us - near great snorkeling at 2 step and the CC Monument, easy access to

the coffee-growing coast southwards, and out of the bustle of Kailua.

A grocery (Choice Market) is not far away. The price was reasonable, well below

Kailua-Kona. Our interactions by email with the manager were great - very responsive

to our questions and everything went smoothly.

Great little cottage in an out of the way spot. Great views.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was great and had all necessary amenities. The hot tub was very relaxing and had great views of the ocean. The location was a great spot for anyone vacationing on the west side of the island.

Wonderfully private, affordable property!

  • 5 of 5

We truly were very fortunate to find this wonderful place and it's awesome owners. Property was exactly as described, with spectacular views and perfect amenities. We loved to come back to "our cottage" after a day of property hunting, and luxuriate in the Jacuzzi.

If it wasn't for finding this vacation rental on VRBO and meeting these wonderful people, we may not have found our own "perfect piece of paradise".

We definitely hope to stay there again within the next several months as we plant our roots on the Big Island.

We absolutely loved the cottage and will be returning very soon. We have rented several houses in the area and this is the best of all.

Fantastic View Ohia House

  • 5 of 5

House located on 11 acres on the side of a hill overlooking the ocean in Captain Cook, Hi. The view is outstanding. Very secluded and quiet. Pick fruit (trangeries, oranges, lemons, bananas) throughout the property. Watch geckos stick to the top of the lani. Wild turkeys roost in trees. This house is well supplied with all you would need to be comfortable during your stay. The bed is very comfortable. This is a great spot for couples but not child friendly due to the railing in once section of the lani. We would definitely stay here again on our next vacation!

Second visit to Ohia Hale as good as first

  • 5 of 5

This is a great location for spectacular views with hot tub and wonderful privacy in a traditional Hawaii cottage. And getting there is half the fun. Amenities are basic but quite adequate. My wife and I spent a week here in early January 2017 and loved every minute, many of which were spent in the hot tub day and night. Weather can be cool (mid 60s) in the am until sun comes above trees but warms quickly to upper 70s and low 80s by mid morning. Be prepared to hear distant farms animals from farm in valley below (rooster, cows) which is fairly common in many areas of Capt Cook and Hononau. Nearby super market and small restaurants within 2 miles of Ohia Hale makes for easy shopping and average food quality dining. We did eat at Loko Wraps twice so that gets on the list. Ohia Hale is best for couples without kids looking for privacy.

Located in the heart of Captain Cook, this quaint, private home offers the best of South Kona and easy access to Kailua-Kona. Offering a great view a short drive to both Kealakekua Bay and The Place of Refuge there is plenty of cultural, historic sites to see. Only an hour and a half drive from Volcanos National Park and two hours from Hilo.

For your fresh food needs, a grocery store is located just up the road, and there are several great farmers markets for you to enjoy fresh organic fruits and vegetables.
