Beautiful, peaceful, historical, comfortable
I fell in love with this property from the photos in the listing and the reality was even better than it looked. We spent 6 nights there and found the renovation of the historic building to have been inspired, stylish and comfortable. The house was well appointed with everything we needed. An initial misunderstanding (one of the 3 bedrooms was not made up) was quickly remedied by the local caretaker couple, although it should be noted that French is required - fortunately one of us is much more fluent! Nearby Malestroit had all the shopping that we needed and was truly charming. Our only regrets are that we did so much sightseeing during our stay that we had less time to enjoy this lovely property than we would have liked.
Roomy house in lovely location
Ty Hir is a lovely, restored “longhouse” in the Bretagne countryside. It is roomy and well-equipped. The two main bedrooms share a bathroom, and third bedroom is up narrow stairs, but has its own bathroom. Not ideal for 2 couples, but it worked.
Most reviews mention the poor wi-fi connectivity. And, yes, it was a problem. The person who greeted us did not speak English and was not familiar with the Internet. Fortunately, one of our party was French so we communicated.
It would be helpful if there were a Handbook for the house, with suggested shopping, towns to visit, walks to take.
The walk along towpath to Malestroit is beautiful, but be aware that you need to walk to St-Laurent, across the bridge and then up the towpath, about 7 km total - so maybe 9 miles round trip.
Visits to Malestroit, La Gracilly, Vannes, Josselin, St-Malo, Dinan, and Guérande were delightful. Shopping at Lidl in Malestroit, Intermarche in Questembert
Breton country retreat
We had a lovely stay here. The house was was equipped and very comfortable with all the amenities being very up to date. We particularly enjoyed the well equipped kitchen as my son and I love to cook together. One of our ideas of a great holiday in France is to go foraging at the local markets and shops and then bring home our purchases and cook.
The location is lovely - the house is located in a small hamlet so it is very peaceful. In fact at night it is silent. But what’s really terrific is that the house is only 5 minutes from a small town with all the essential amenities - bakery, good butcher, restaurants and cafes and supermarkets. The location within Brittany itself is also excellent as it is midway between the north and south coasts, each an easy hour’s drive away, but hone is in the peace and quiet of the French countryside and away from the hubbub of the coast.
The house also has a large garden which my grandson enjoyed. He also enjoyed the black raspberries!
I would definitely recommend this house as a well appointed and comfortable place to stay.
