About Bryan Hopkins

My wife and I have 2 wonderful sons and we are a very active family and love Big Bear for snowboarding, hiking, wakeboarding, fishing, and exploring all around Big Bear Lake. We have created some fantastic family memories here. We love spending time at the cabin and we know your experience will be the same!

Bryan Hopkins purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Bryan Hopkins chose Moonridge

This property has a great 'mountain feel' with log siding, two great balconies to enjoy nature and a natural gas Weber BBQ. Secluded from neighbors with a great view from decks and a fantastic master bedroom, and private bath with a huge shower.

What makes this cabin unique

Close to Bear Mountain with access to world class snowboarding during the winter and a golf course for the spring and summer. Visitors enjoy the Moonridge Zoo and ample walking and hiking. Fishing in the spring is off the charts. Summer offers kayaking, boating, wakeboarding, parasailing and for those who are warm blooded, even a quick swim.

Great cozy stay.

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time. The place had everything needed, as we cooked, BBQ'd all meals at the cabin, very adequate kitchen and cooking materials. Owner responded nearly immediately to any and all requests. This cozy cabin made our first snow trip awesome. We had good snow around the place to play in.

Just to have a well rounded review, I will say that it is a little dark inside and it is a slightly difficulty entry down stairs from the driveway. Other than that, I would highly recommend.

We want to thank the owners for their service.

We headed up to Big Bear with a other couple on a last minute get away. The owner was super responsive, made a few very helpful recommendations for dining and things to do. The cabin was exactly as described, clean cozy and quiet.

Cozy for 4 not necessarily 5

  • 3 of 5

I will start by saying the view is great from this place and the owner was very nice and quick to respond to questions. The downstairs seems to be fairly recently updated and looked nice. Although there was a drip in the faucet of the bathroom downstairs and I think the cleaning crew plugged the drain. Luckily we arrived and saw the drip and plugged drain and simply unplugged the drain because the water was inches away from starting to spill onto the bathroom floor.

We had a party of 5 go to this cabin over the Labor Day weekend. To get to the point we felt the accommodations were a bit paltry and over-stated compared to the description on the site. You can't really fit more than 4 people because the fold out bed in the upstairs living room has a mattress that is probably the worst mattress I've ever laid on! Literally springs poking you when you laid on it. Not to mention there was a fine grained "sand" all over the sheets which just made it gross. My kids had to swap who would sleep on it (we were there for two nights) because it was so bad.

Lastly, we just had this general feeling that what was supplied for renters was just the least amount possible: minimal kitchen utensils, pots, pans, etc were supplied. The BBQ out on the deck is literally falling apart. Broken knobs, cracked, broken lid. Only two, count em, two deck chairs, for two full decks at a place that is supposed to hold 7 people. No wifi. Small, very dated TV with a non-HD picture that was difficult to view at times. The site mentions the luxurious fireplace in the downstairs bedroom, but doesn't mention that it's turned off in the Summer. Not a huge deal but a bit disappointing. The appearance of the home in general was not really high end at all - which is totally fine. Just be forewarned that this is not a luxury rental by any stretch.

Not so nice!

  • 1 of 5

I, my husband and another couple recently stayed at this property. We did not consider it a great experience. I had to contact the Owner at least 5 times regarding several issues. We were there to enjoy a relaxing weekend out of the city, and enjoy the last couple of days of the Olympics. The first issue was that there was no toilet tissue or paper towels when we arrived, so the cleaning lady was called out to drop off those items. The rugs in both the kitchen and the upstairs bathroom were so disgusting that I threw them behind a door. We couldn't locate the light switches and had to contact the owner for instructions; we arrived Friday afternoon but had no hot water until Saturday after 6:00 p.m., cold showers are not fun!!!! There was no Wi-Fi, no air-conditioner (had to bring in a big-loud fan that was in a closet), and very limited television channels. One of the reclining chairs was broken and should have been repaired or discarded. The dinner table had four chairs, but the table was only large enough to hold two people. So our romantic dinner sitting together was out of the question. The patio was dirty and only had a worn wicker mini table and two chairs. Because it was four of us, we had to bring out two chairs from the house so we could all sit outside together. However when it got dark we had to come inside because of the lack of lighting. The kitchen cooking pots/pans/bowls, etc. was of the poorest quality and all need to be replaced, as well as the holiday decorations. There is no pride by the Owner in his property.

Owner's Response: We are sincerely sorry the cabin did not meet your expectations. We have had our cabin on the VRBO site for over four years and have always received great reviews. The guest who stayed with us the weekend prior to your arrival was quoted as saying; "The property is as described. Well appointed inside, big porch outside with a working bbq. The owner was very receptive and quick to answer all questions. We would come back and stay again."

It's very cozy

It truly is a cozy cabin. Lots of stairs to get to the cabin but that was ok. Had a wonderful stay and hopefully we can return next year.
