The Lake Jeff Tree House was designed and built in 2002 by Jill, the owner, an internationally known artist, for our family to relax in and get away from New York City. We have enjoyed the fresh country air, eating locally grown, raised and harvested / foraged foods and playing in the outdoors in the woods and by the lake. The Tree House has served as Jill's summer studio through the years and the home is furnished with many personal works of art by her and artist whom she knows. Our family has loved and cared for this home throughout the years, as evidenced by the pristine condition that you will find and enjoy. We would like every guest to experience the same serenity and beauty that we have found in the woods on Lake Jefferson.
Jill purchased this House in 2002
Why Jill chose Town of Bethel
The Lake Jeff Tree House is a true retreat from the the hectic pace of everyday life. You can choose to stock up the fridge and relax with all of the comforts you desire, both indoors and out, on the living room deck or beside the lake. There is no need to leave unless you want to partake in the many amenities that Sullivan County has to offer. You will find the Bethel Woods Performing Art Center and the site of the 1969 Woodstock Music festive and Museum just 8 miles away. Down the road from that is the Dancing Cat Saloon and Distillery. The Dancing Cat Saloon serves up good food and spirts along with local talents performing jam sessions. The Distillery is distilling 'Peace Vodka' which you can sample there or at the Dancing Cat. Take a ride along the Delaware River to Fort Delaware. Experience life in a Fort as it would have been. This is great for kids and adults alike or continue down the lake to Skinners Falls to swim or tube the rapids. Winter is just as exciting at the Tree House. Build a fire in the fireplace and listen to the crackle. When the lake freezes the locals ice fish on it. You can sled the local hills or for a bigger adventure ski or snowtube Villa Roma which is a 15 minute drive away. Its a small run but great family fun to noodle around on ski's without crowds.
What makes this House unique
This is a true nature getaway. Whether its summer and you are watching the trees sway and hearing the leaves rustle, listening to the geese honk or watching the small woodland animals at the lake or its winter and you build a snow fort then sit cozy by the fireplace watching the snow fall, you will make lasting memories with friends and family. You will love the tranquility of your vacation at the Tree House at Lake Jeff.

We stayed for 3 day. House is nice, it was as promised
House ok. Had a good time. Unpleasant smell in the basement despite dehumidifiers and scented plug ins. Felt misled by the owner since before even booking, I specifically asked if she had cable and mentioned we were looking to watch baseball, and she answered: “yes, there is cable TV, I know your a sports fan and they are pretty picky about their TV’s.” We get there, they had a super basic cable and we couldn’t watch what we were hoping for on TV. The owner did nothing regarding the cable subscription, only sent some links for streaming. Had I known this would be the case I would have looked for another home in the first place.
I am glad you had a nice time. Unfortunately, I was not made aware of the specific stations that were needed, only a discussion regarding the size of the tv. There is high speed internet which allows for streaming multiple devices and a SMART blu-ray DVD with multiple tv apps to choose from. I am sorry that you were unable to decipher how to stream the stations and apps, that upon request, I provided you with.
Each guest brings their own set of needs that I take very seriously, therefore, I have purchased a ROKU device for the television to allow future guests a wider variety of stations. You are welcome back any time to take advantage of the many tv stations.
Beautiful home, but not really a lake house.
Me and a group of friends stayed at the house for a weekend. The house was great for hanging out - nice kitchen, plenty of space and light, and a beautiful deck.
I was a little disappointed in the "lake". There's a path down to a dock which sits on what is really more of a large stream about two feet deep and twenty feet wide. You can take kayak's up or downstream to wider parts of the lake, but there's really nowhere to swim. There's also so much growth down by the water that it's pretty much in constant shade and there aren't any great views.
So, if you want a beautiful house / jumping off point for exploring the Catskills, I'd recommend this listing. If you want a lake house, not so much.
Glad to hear that you had a nice time and enjoyed the home. I appreciate your honest review as there are travelers who find the seclusion of the lake and the quiet observation of nature as a highlight. If you come to a concert at Bethel Woods or want to have a friends and family reunion, I would love to host you again.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Pretty house in the woods
We traveled as group of friends for a relaxing weekend away from the city. The house is surrounded by trees and you can access a stream from the house. From there, you can use the 2 kayaks at your disposal to paddle to the main Lake in which you can swim.
The house was very clean when we stayed and the kitchen is well equipped. It's very relaxing to stay at Jill's house and we would recommend it!
I'm glad to hear that you and your guests had relaxing time and got to spend some time on the lake enjoying the kayaks.
You are welcome to come back any time. The home is available year round to experience all of the seasons.
Fine Lake House
Interior space and deck were lovely and spacious. Clean and well-appointed. Plenty of towels, cookware, utensils.
We were disappointed with the lakefront. The dock was four feet above the water and thus useless for launching the kayaks. The first 100 yards away from the dock were almost impassable-- shallow, muddy, and plant-choked water. And no way to swim there; we had to paddle way out into the open lake before jumping in.
The only other problem was that I thought we had agreed that we could stay until 2 pm on Monday, our last day. We were paddling on the lake at noon, when the cleaner arrived and shooed us out in a rush. It was very awkward.
Thank you for choosing my home. I'm glad that you enjoyed the home and all that is has to offer.
Guests should always arrive at the home and find it as described. Thank you for your feedback on the deck at the lake. I have changed the description of the deck at the lake to reflect that it is a multi-level cantilever deck overhanging the water. For launching the kayaks there are several lakeside areas to launch from. Lake Jeff is a small non-motorboat lake and a natural environment that is constantly changing and evolving depending on climate. It is what gives it it's solitude and charm. I'm glad that you enjoyed exploring it on the provided kayaks.
Guests are often approved to check out late after I confirm the housekeeping schedule. After checking the guest communication, unfortunately, I did not find an approval. I am sorry for the miscommunication but am glad that you were able to stay until 1pm.
Disappointing stay, over priced, brown water, dirty kitchen and the smell of mold ruined our trip.
On a positive note, this property is set in a quiet spot and the deck is set with an vista over the tree tops. It's very peaceful place. However this is about the extent of the positive traits. We were two families with 3 small children enjoying a 4th of July celebration. Unfortunately when we arrived the house was still dirty from the previous occupants (kitchen & BBQ), the down stairs room had wet carpet and smelt strongly of mold and the tap water was brown. Extremely disappointing for the price tag!!
For those of you planning on cooking whilst you in the house please make sure you bring all the basics with you such as salt, pepper, cooking oil, tea & coffee. This house doesn't have as much as a salt shaker available for use.
Upon contacting the owner she was very apologetic about the state of the cleanliness of the property and did offer to send the cleaner back, however we have already cleaned the place before this offer. She also explained that sometimes the water is brown due the use of well water......perhaps this should be put in the property description. Really not acceptable with the price they are charging. The smell of mold was news to her, however difficult to believe given the presence of the dehumidified in the down stairs room.
I would not recommend staying at this property.
We all get a bad apple in the bunch and judging by all the high quality past reviews posted on my site, one could suppose that this is one of those apples.
A welcome call 15 minutes after arrival time was made to Tim to make sure he and his guests had no problem entering the home, and to make sure that everything was as expected and to see if he had any questions. The condition must not have been as stated as he declined any assistance.
I explained to Tim that earlier that morning a party of 8 had checked out and housekeeping was in to do laundry and that after 8 showers, running the dishwasher and several loads of laundry that as the well refilled it could discolor the water. I told him that they should let it settle overnight and they should wake up and it would be fine.
I do not supply any food items as this is a home share. Guests are free to bring and leave what they wish. There is a fully stocked grocery at the bottom of the hill to grab anything that is forgotten.
While on the phone with Tim I had him walk around the carpet to tell me where the carpet was wet, he couldn't tell me where and wouldn't allow anyone to come check. As for mold, he couldn't tell me where that was either.
There are 2 dehumidifiers in the home. Doesn't everyone have dehumidifiers? Isn't that just good housekeeping?
In conclusion, I spoke with my housekeeper regarding all of Tim's complaints. The housekeeper stated that the water was not brown when she left the home, the carpet was not wet as she was barefoot when she vacuumed, we are a no shoe home, and there was no odor. She offered to return to the home to confirm the condition but Tim had refused.
Tim left my home in poor and disrespected condition.
Unfortunately, I can not give Tim a bad review as he did not book through the VRBO website. He did choose to comment on this site 2 weeks after his stay. I would not recommend renting to this guest.
Located 7 miles from Bethel Woods Center for Performing Arts and the site of the 1969 Woodstock music festival and museum. 12 miles from the Dellaware River where you can kayak or canoe down the river or view eagles. There are many antique shops in the area and Pete's auction barn in the Hamlet of Jeffersonville.
