Why Amy Shaw chose Kunkletown
After looking for a vacation home for many years, we are so happy to have found this home. It is located in a quiet, family oriented neighborhood. It centrally located to all the Poconos has to offer but if you want to just relax and enjoy nature, this is the place to be.
What makes this House unique
We fell in love with this home the minute we walked through the door and saw the open layout and spectacular view of the lake from the sunlit family room with large windows facing the lake and woods. There is plenty to do without ever leaving the house, the basement is set up as a game room to keep you entertained for hours on end, you can take a hike around the lake, or take a kayak or raft out on the lake.

Big, comfortable house with the best game room
We had 3 children from 4 - 15. Overall, this was a great place to stay. In previous experiences, we knew that the weather could be quite poor at any time in August so we wanted a good indoor space and this house delivered. Sure enough, the weekend was rainy and cold, but the downstairs game room was a huge plus for everyone and they had DVDs that were entertaining for the kids. Also, there was enough space throughout that we could spread out comfortably. The pictures actually don't do justice as they've made some upgrades and the view of the lake was great.
- Loved the deck and view. Could sit there all day.
- Game room had plenty of activities - ping pong, skee ball, shuffleboard, etc.
- Kitchen was very useful w/ upgraded appliances.
- Laundry machines were new
- 3 bathrooms
- Lots of board games
The only slight cautions were the lake was unusable (but we were forewarned) and the master bed was not comfortable, but Amy mentioned that they will have a new bed shortly. We look forward to when the lake would be usable.
Other suggestions - a bigger screen TV and some seating for this in the basement would make the game room even more entertaining. Also, the basement was colder than the rest of the house - not sure if there was any heat available? Some more lighting in the living room would be nice and some of the seats weren't super comfortable.
Overall though - great place to stay.
“Home Away From Home!”
Our family had a wonderful time enjoying each other and all that this home had to offer!!
There was plenty of space for us to accommodate comfortably 5 adults and 3 small children, with visitors of 3 more on Saturday afternoon. As far as I am concerned, Amy and David have presented a home with everything needed for a “Home Away From Home!”
Super, unexpected features... The electric keyboard placed at my 1 and 3 yr old grands level in the living room was one of their favorite places to spend their time as others played board games and spent time together. We looked for “treasures” outside (acorn, Fall leaves and sticks),took lovely walks and sweet time in the toddler swing. The game room in the basement was a place of fun for all ages!! The adults were having too much fun moving from Shuffleboard to Ping Pong to playing Pool as the littles ones laughed as they threw the skeeballs up the game and they came back down! Plenty to do for everyone if choosing to stay around the house.
When the lake is back up and running, that will be again a wonderful memory maker.
I would absolutely recommend Amy and David as rental homeowners as they are super to work with and obviously care about people and their home.
Great house and location. Well equipped for a great relaxing time!!
Overall great experience. Amy was more than accommodating!!
A relaxing week
We enjoyed our week of relaxing at the Lake House in Kunkletown. The neighborhood was peaceful and pleasant, and the house was comfortable and inviting. The owners have thought of everything including many games and even DVD's for adults and kids alike. The kitchen was well equipped and the rest of the house was very comfortable.
We enjoyed the grill and the deck, and watching the myriad of ducks, geese and birds on the lake and in our backyard.
We would certainly stay here again.
Great home for relaxing vacation
We enjoyed a week long stay in this home in a quiet neighborhood away from the more touristy parts of the Poconos. There was plenty of space to spread out and lots of thoughtful extras were provided. Communication with the owners was excellent with very fast response times. We spent our time hiking in three state parks, taking the scenic train ride in Jim Thorpe , touring an old coal mine, and just relaxing in the evenings with games and movies. Although we ate out for most meals, the kitchen was well stocked with everything needed for preparing meals. A family member with mobility problems had no difficulty navigating the home, although there is a step up required to enter the house from any door which could complicate things for someone using a wheelchair. The view from the house was restful, but the lake was not usable for swimming and canoeing during our stay due to low water levels. We would definitely consider renting this house again if we decide to return to the area for a future vacation. Thanks Amy and David!
Susan, We are very happy you enjoyed your stay and you are welcome back anytime! We do have a portable ramp available for renters with mobility issues, I apologize that I didn’t mention it but I wasn’t aware that you could have used it. Thank you for sharing the ideas for daytrips that you took. It will help future renters when they are looking for things to do while they are visiting the Poconos.
Spacious, attractive lake house
Our group of five "seventy something" cousins enjoyed a beautiful week in this spacious, well stocked lake house. One of the 'cousins' uses a wheelchair, and we found the house to be quite accessible and with plenty of room to navigate on the inside. We walked every day taking in the peaceful surroundings and watching the bird-life on the lake. During our stay we observed ducks, geese, Blue Herons, and Egrets going about their daily business of living. The owner, Amy Shaw, was wonderful to work with, so friendly and ready to promptly answer all of our questions. We were quite comfortable in this home and we plan to return next summer!
Jane, thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure having you as our guests and you are welcome back anytime! Amy
