About Anne Hazeltine

I fell in love with New Orleans the first time I was there and bought my first vacation place on my second visit. This property was found in May 2012 (Jazz Fest trip!) and it is so charming and lovely, I was sure others would enjoy it, too.

Anne Hazeltine purchased this house in 2012

Why Anne Hazeltine chose Marigny-Bywater

If you love the live music scene on Frenchmen, then this is the place for you! It is also just 4 blocks from the Riverfront streetcar and the French Quarter.

What makes this house unique

This property has the classic courtyard everyone loves in New Orleans. And the covered porch with ceiling fans makes it the perfect place to start and end your day in New Orleans.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Anne....I just wanted to let you know I have tried to review your property 4x now but there appears to be a glitch in the VRBO sight where it doesn't let you click on a star to rank the property and also wont let you submit the review without a ranking.

"We recently rented both properties of the Marigny-Bywater Hideout and could not have been more delighted. Both homes have all the charm, quaintness and comfort anyone could ask for. The beds are magnificent! The homes have a true Nawlins feel right in the heart of New Orleans jazz district. For us, the location could not have been more superb. Blocks from the action yet far enough away to find peace if you wanted it. Both the owner (Anne) and property manager (Ginger) were gracious and accommodating. We really could not have been happier and if we are fortunate to return to New Orleans we will with out a doubt be staying at the Marigny-Bywater Hideout again!"

Perfect for our little family

  • 5 of 5

This house was great for my husband and I and our 2 small kids - 2 and 4. We were able to easily access the fun things that New Orleans has to offer but to go too far from home. It is a small space that you wouldn't want to pack anymore into but perfect for us. We will definitely plan on returning although next time we might leave the kids at home.

Wonderful little gem in perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

What a charming little place! Very well appointed, clean and nice inside. Plus a cute backyard with an awesome porch (bigger than it looks). The kitchen was fabulous! Not to mention the location was perfect- just a couple of blocks down for the main drag of frenchman street and several blocks (yes, walking distance) from pretty much everything else.

My friend and I stayed for a long weekend and couldn't be happier with the location, the price and the house itself.

I will say that the other reviewers are true in that you can hear ppl on the street in the bedroom if they are noisy, but it isn't anything like it would be closer to the center of the French Quarter. We literally walked everywhere except the night we had reservations at Arnaud's in which we took Uber ($6) on account of our heels ;)

Lovely place, I would definitely stay again in this same house upon return to NOLA.

It don't get any better

  • 5 of 5

This is the third trip and the third property belonging to the same owner over the last two years and, without a doubt, every time we go back.....we commit to a return visit and another stay in one of Anne's houses.

We were in NOLA for Jazz Fest....that's another 20 page review (kept safely in my head), but the House on Frenchman was a grand addition. The house is perfect for two, quiet, two blocks from music and dining, and an absolutely awesome place for respite after a day of Jazzfesting.

Anne, the owner, and Ginger, her local contact, were incredibly responsive tho there was very little we had to ask for. The both really know how to make a vacation without intruding.

This place is the best, we're already asking about availability for our next visit, So, WE ASKED FIRST.

Don't miss this's a charmer

Lovely little house but NOISY!

  • 3 of 5

The house is located directly on Frenchman Street. It is very clean and well kept and the pictures are a good representation. However, the noise level is really a drawback if you are a light sleeper! NOTE: THE PHOTO OF THE PORCH IS ON THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. The front door faces Frenchman and the double bed sits about 20 feet from the street. Frenchman is a VERY BUSY PARTY STREET and there is no buffer between the street and the bedroom except a thin wall and a large window. We loved the location for ease of getting around during the day but sleeping was extremely difficult. My head on the pillow 20 feet from the street was assaulted with keys jangling, car alarms blaring, trucks, cars, motorcycles honking, doorbell ringing (it is outside the fence and lit up like a beacon for the partiers to press as they go by!) drunken laughter and shouting, dogs barking, trash cans overturning, high heels clattering, shouting down the block to friends, car fobs chirping, horse hooves clip clopping, bells jangling, all the typical noise of a really great party going on....until at least 3 am every night. My husband stayed in the bed and took an Ambien every night for the remainder of the stay. I moved to the other room and slept on the couch with earplugs.

If you are a very sound sleeper, you may not have a problem. The house is equipped with a washer and dryer and Anne is kind enough to provide laundry soap and fabric softener. There is plenty of coffee in the kitchen and we arrived to find 2 bottles of water in the fridge. The bed is comfy as is the couch (I did not pull it out, just slept on it with a very cozy comforter), the neighbors are friendly and the back yard is peaceful (there was construction going on during our stay but we assume it would be peaceful otherwise!) I am not sure who stays in the casita in the back or if it is typically empty. Anne was there during our stay. There is soap, shampoo, conditioner and hair dryer provided and lots of essentials in the medicine cabinet. She provided a wonderful binder of attractions in the area and numerous tourist guides. There are movies and music, a fully equipped kitchen and plenty of fluffy towels and extra bedding. Plenty of room inside for two of us. The kitchen is large and open. We stayed in March and the temperature was lovely. A ceiling fan kept the place nice and cool and the AC worked well too.

Had it not been for the noise factor, I would give it a 5. However, I need my sleep! :)

Owner's Response: I am so sorry you had such challenges with the street noise! I usually use the white noise machine at least the first night when I stay at this house and sleep well, but it does take some getting used to. I stayed here for nearly 3 weeks during Mardi Gras season and had the doorbell get rung in wee hours only once, so I don't think this is a common occurence. All of that said, any of my other 3 houses are good choices for light sleepers - especially the back houses at both locations.
