About the property

2 bedrooms with large loft / 2 full bathrooms / Gameroom / sleeps up to 8

Just 3 miles outside of Blowing Rock, nestled in a bowl, sits A Cabin in the Woods. This 2 bedroom, 2 bath cedar log cabin with vaulted ceiling & spacious loft has a gameroom with ping pong & foosball, gas log fireplace, jetted bath, & much more. Relax on the covered porch & listen to the creek, while you soak up the solitude on this 22 acre tract of wooded forest, or take a hike on the trails & investigate the mountains & streams in your own private little park. An interesting mix of rustic & modern, you will be sure to enjoy the log cabin feel, while enjoying all the modern conveniences.

You'll be pleasantly surprised at the abundance of activities throughout the year. Located just minutes away, you will find Blowing Rock, which offers some of the finest dining, unique shops, & beautiful parks with tennis courts, playground, and riding stables. Located outside of Blowing Rock on your way to Boone, is the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and longtime favorite, Tweetsie Railroad.

Surrounding Area: With its many overlooks, picnic areas, and hiking trails, cruising the Blueridge Parkway is a popular way to spend your day. Boone enjoys many year round cultural events sponsored by Appalachian State University. Take State Road 105 out towards Linville to find one of the most unique biospheres in the world, Grandfather Mountain. You can hike, see native animals, and walk across the mile high swinging bridge. Everything from skiing to white water rafting is within close proximity to A Cabin in the Woods.

Local Skiing: A Cabin in the Woods is located within an hour's drive to Beech Mtn., Sugar Mtn, and Appalachian Ski Mtn. Our favorite, Appalachian is only 5.3 miles from the cabin. Very family friendly with great Swiss Ski Instructors.

About Beth Vonnegut

My husband and I lived in the Florida Keys, but had been coming up to the mountains each summer to hike. Each time we came up, it seemed like we stayed longer and longer! We began looking for property, thinking that we would like to have a summer home. After a few years, we found a beautiful 22 acre piece of property just outside of the town of Blowing Rock and built a log cabin. We have since then moved up here to the nearby city of Lenoir. We love the four seasons and all of the different activities that each season offers. Our cabin is nestled in the woods and gives us a feeling of calm serenity.

Beth Vonnegut purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Beth Vonnegut chose Blue Ridge Mountains

We chose to purchase a vacation rental in this location because of the many and varied, wonderful activities that this area has to offer.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This has been the best vacation we've ever had! We love the cabin and everything it has to offer. The kids learned so much here and had so much fun doing it, we have memories from here that are priceless! Thank you for sharing your cabin. I wish I could tell you our favorite part, but everyday was as good or better than the day before.

Fall Colors with Lady Bugs

  • 5 of 5

The very secluded cabin was great. Glass window view was awesome. Moon light at night great, sunshine in the morning was perfect. Woke up in the morning with deer down in the hollow by the creek. Heard turkey down calling down by the creek. Lady bugs every where! Great fire pit and downstairs games for the whole crew. Excellent cabin, can't wait to stay again.

Secluded and Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

We always enjoy staying here! The woods are quiet and there is plenty of onsite hiking with a wonderful fire at the end of the day! Close to the charming town of Blowing Rock with some of our favorite restaurants, it is clean and well-appointed. Looking forward to a return trip and a rematch at the ping-pong table!

Beautiful Place, very secluded, cozy home!!

  • 5 of 5

My family loved staying here and enjoyed everything it had to offer. The stream on the property was serene and being surrounded by the woods was awesome. The bottom floor game area was perfect for the kids. The master loft was huge and the 2 bedrooms were a nice addition. The kitchen has everything you need and it was very clean. Beth was very responsive to our questions and we would definitely come back.

As you can see we loved the place but please be aware, the driveway is VERY steep and although we had a 2WD SUV we were able to negotiate the cutbacks when it was wet. I highly suggest you have a 4WD vehicle to use on this property because it is treacherous.

Secluded Location - Lots of Hiking Trails

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely lovely cabin for a quick getaway from the Charlotte madness. My husband and I enjoyed hiking all over this amazing property. Since there was an open fire ban, we didn't get to roast marshmallows so we made brownies and watched movies inside the cabin. Since the location is so close to Blowing Rock we were able to hike in the morning and then do some antiquing too! This place is secluded and makes you feel like you are away from it all. Thank you to Beth and Bob for allowing us to stay here!! We will definitely be back!
