About Gabby

We are a family of 7. Three humans, three dogs, and a crazy bird. We love the outdoors. We are mountain people, travelers, vagabonds, free spirits. Our hairless Chinese Crested SPARKY although he has no hair loves the SNOW and loves our houses in Big Bear. The other two dogs also love the Lake and the Snow....

Gabby purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Gabby chose Sugarloaf

We bought this property 17 years ago. it was an impulse purchase. We had vacationed and rented a couple of places in Big Bear before, and we were very unhappy with the places we got. Old, not very nicely kept, dirty carpet, overpriced...We decided we were going to own our own place and make it nice, clean and affordable.

What makes this cabin unique

We felt in love with this particular house because it seemed like home to us. Although charming and cozy it was not old and moldy, like some places they showed us. It has an airy, fresh feel to it. Modern construction and has everything we need. Enough bedrooms, Enough bathrooms, a cute little back yard, a laundry room, decks....We loved the peace, quiet in a safe and friendly neighborhood. The tall mature trees...Everything was here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great cabin close to everything!

  • 4 of 5

Great 4 day stay over Presidents Weekend with girlfriends from across the country. The cabin was cozy and close to everything we wanted to do. While not the most modern, we had fun watching DVDs from their collection and playing the board games provided. Quick 2 block walk to a convenience store and cute local bar/grill for a night out was really convenient.

Fabulous Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I can't wait to go back to this adorable cabin. The price was excellent compared to others and once I saw the photos and read the reviews, I booked this right away. Once we got there, we feel in love with this charming little place that sleeps 6 people and our dog. The place has a fresh smell which others we have stayed at were horrible. The first 5 minutes we were there, we knew we made the right choice. This cabin is surrounded by nature & mountains, & since we are nature lovers, this was perfect and the walks were beautiful. My kids had a fabulous time and to our amazement, they want to come back with us again. The outside deck has a bbq, and the balcony upstairs was amazing to be able to look up at the stars at night . I am sure if you book this place, you will be as happy as my family and children were. Had a wonderful time and it was like going away for a month. I have been to many cabins in Sugarloaf over the years but this one is the only one we will be coming back to. It was actually the best getaway and a romantic place for couples and the fireplace added more ambiance. Cant wait to book this again.

Bring your dog!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here over a sweltering weekend in July.

Our pros:

* #1- Dog friendly with an enclosed yard with doggie door! Hard to come by.

* The cabin was clean, comfortable and fairly well stocked and maintained. We had all we needed to cook and eat meals. Plentiful towels, soap

and even some drinking water.

* Comfy beds and living room seating.

* There's a small store a couple blocks away and the Village and lake are within easy and quick driving distance.

* We really liked the cabin itself. It truly is both "cozy & spacious"! Love the wood floor in the living room and nice fireplace.

* Gabby was helpful and very quick to respond to emails.

Our cons:

* Sugarloaf itself is slightly sketchy. A LOT of mean, barky dogs behind the fences of almost every house on some streets. Made walking the dog feel like a gauntlet of doggy aggression and some stare downs by their sullen-faced owners. owners.

* It was in the 90's and the small ceiling fan downstairs was mostly ineffective so we scrounged around and thankfully found a couple of fans that we moved up to the bedrooms for sleeping. (They were in a closet that we discovered later was meant to be locked but was thankfully left open because otherwise the temperature would probably have been intolerable.) Many of the village shops and restaurants were struggling to beat the heat, we tried 3 restaurants before finding one with reasonable temperature and space for us. So much for escaping the LA heat!

* The sheets in the bunkbeds were flannel. We couldn't find anything else so our poor kid had to sleep on them in that heat.

* There were a lot of air freshening devices throughout the cabin. Easy to put outside during our stay.

* Lighting was not great. A couple of burned out light bulbs and no light source in living room.

* Although you pay a $50 cleaning fee, you are required to wash and put away all dishes (no dishwasher) and take all your garbage with you!

It may seem a bit pricey considering the cons, but if you have a dog it is definitely worth it!

We would return when the temperatures are more reasonable!

Cozy Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is great for families and definitely pet friendly. We stayed over from February 19-21 a family weekend getaway. Spacious, comfortable, & cozy cabin. Plus kitchen amenities for cooking available. Fire Place too. There is also a laundry & dryer available for use as well- we used it during our stay. Gabby, the owner, was easily to contact and made our transition to stay at the cabin very smooth. She responds in a timely manner for any questions- THANK YOU GABBY!
