About Tracy Hamlin

I am a costume designer here in New Orleans. I was just awarded the RAW Fashion Designer of the Year 2012 for New Orleans. Born in the Mississippi Delta, I naturally migrated downstream to New Orleans. Finished a graduate program at the University of New Orleans and decided to stay in the city and rear my two children here. I started making headdresses while costuming during Mardi Gras. Costuming is a tradition in New Orleans because of Mardi Gras and various other activities. My creations have gone from headdresses to decorated feathered bustiers to nutria pelt bags and purses. Using feathers, appliques, alligator heads, oyster shells, Spanish moss and an assortment of other trinkets, I create headdresses that are both comfortable and adjustable. I sell on etsy and have sent headdresses, bustiers and nutria bags all over the United States, and even as far away as Bulgaria. I participate in art markets in New Orleans and across the Gulf Coast region.

What a great house in New Orleans! Upon arrival, Tracy was there to greet us and show us around the house and tell us about everything in the area. This house is very close to two really amazing breakfast restaurants and a few really fun bars. (All within a mile of the house) Since this house is 1 block off of Canal Street, you don’t even need a car to get around since you can use the street cars that only cost you 3 dollars a day! The house itself is so comfortable, very spacious and has everything you need. The first floor has one very large living area with a futon that is divided into two spaces and then a great fully equipped kitchen. The upstairs is where the spacious bedroom is along with the single bathroom. The other great feature of this house is the HUGE backyard with a patio to enjoy the outside weather. There is even a small fishpond that sets a tranquil scene to just kick back and relax. Thank you Tracy for having such a great space for my husband and I to enjoy New Orleans!

Very nice stay

  • 5 of 5

The house was very comfortable and cute, just what we needed. The owner Tracy was amazing. We were in New Orleans to shop the architectural salvage warehouses and she directed us to the perfect one. Unfortunately, our stay was cut very short by Harvey, we are from north of Houston. Tracy offered to let us stay for free as long as we needed to but our husbands wanted us home before Harvey hit. She continued to contact us in the days after the hurricane, checking on us and our area. Because she understood our situation, Tracy took it a step further and reimbursed us for almost our entire stay so we could donate it to the relief efforts we are doing through our church. What an amazing lady. God bless you Tracy and thank you!!!

Traveled with my husband and teen daughters. Tracy met us on arrival to go through the house and answer questions.

The house is beautiful and clean-photos don't give it justice. The back yard is beautiful and relaxing. Inside, you have everything you need plus some. If we're ever back in NOLA we'll definitely contact Tracy! Book with her!

No car needed.

Great location, wonderful accommodations

  • 5 of 5

Tracy's place is just about perfect. The house itself is extremely spacious and everything we possibly wanted/needed was waiting for us. The lovely back yard offers a perfect respite after a busy day. The location, just one black from the Canal Street streetcar (and walking distance from restaurants, groceries, and City Park) offers car-free access to the CBD and the French Quarter. We definitely plan to return on our next visit to New Orleans.

Excellent location, beautiful decor

  • 5 of 5

This was my first experience with VRBO, and I was thrilled with everything. The decor is beautiful and the apartment is fitted with attention to detail. I loved the charm of the house, with its high ceilings, original fireplaces and wood floors, plentiful windows, and gorgeous porch and patio. The kitchen has everything you need, as does the bathroom. Two girlfriends and I stayed for a weekend, and we had plenty of space to spread out and great spaces to share. The only suggestion that we might have is to provide some extension cords for curling irons, etc. With just one bathroom, we got ready in different spaces throughout the apartment and couldn't always find a mirror close enough to an electrical outlet.

The location is excellent. With no houses across the street, there is ample parking and the street is quiet. We walked the one block up to Canal and caught the streetcar, which we road all around town. I wish that we had had more time to visit the nearby cemeteries and to take the streetcar to City Park. It is very possible to park your car and to use alternate transportation for your entire stay.

Tracy was very accommodating, allowing us to check in early with our groceries and communicating well prior to and during our stay. It was nice to know that she was there if we needed her, yet we felt like we had all the privacy we needed. She has loaded the apartment with books, magazines, and brochures on New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina, and the surrounding areas. She's also got a great supply of books, cards, games, etc. if you decide to spend a quiet night in.

I highly recommend this property and will definitely be back in the future.

A great home in a great area

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for Voodoo Fest. Generally staying in the CBD or French Quarter, I was astounded to find this house so convenient to the park and at a great rate. I soon learned those were only a couple of the great things about this rental. Tracy was so amazing and hospitable and so was her husband. We were treated like friends and really, family.

The house itself had so much room and originality. I enjoyed meeting her dog Scout and sitting on the front porch. We rarely used our car, but had great parking. We walked to numerous restaurants and never felt unsafe or that they were out of reach. Such a great neighborhood and I can't wait to go back!

Thank you for everything!

Charming NOLA gem

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful time staying at this lovely home! It was beautiful and comfortable, stocked with everything you might need, and Tracy was a wonderful host. So much better than a hotel, this was a fantastic home base to explore New Orleans from and use the trolley to get around. There were also many great places to eat or explore within walking distance. The home was clean and very stylish and added to the overall NOLA experience. I give Tracy and her home the highest marks! Stay here; you will love it!
