A luxurious 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom custom home with 5-star finishes.
We've had over 200 inches of snow this month. Tahoe is now 277% above average precipitation for the month of March. And it's still snowing! Awesome conditions for spring skiing.
The Eagles Nest is an upscale, professionally decorated Big Springs home with 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms and a private outdoor hot tub (brand new May 2017). The Eagles Nest is ideal for a gathering of friends and family, with soaring cathedral ceilings throughout, a giant wood burning fireplace fashioned from huge stones, and light streaming in through abundant windows. You will be greeted by beautiful slate floors, original oil paintings and fine leather furniture in the common areas. Enjoy the silence and extreme comfort of hydronic radiant heating throughout plus free high speed wi-fi. If you're visiting in the Summer, you'll enjoy the central air conditioning, a very rare feature in this region.
The chef’s kitchen features granite countertops, a Viking 6-burner cooktop, stainless steel fridge, freezer, microwave oven, conventional oven and convection oven, dual sinks, Belgian waffle maker, slow cooker, hand mixer, blender, toaster, toaster oven and all the pots, pans and cooking utensils you could possibly need. 3 coffee makers help you get just what you want in the morning: Keurig maker, traditional Cuisinart coffee maker, and an espresso maker. The great room has a 42 inch plasma TV with DVD player, DirecTV, and theater sound. Elsewhere on the main floor, a billiards table is accompanied by a wet bar. An alcove has its own gas fireplace, a TV on which kids can watch DVDs and a laser printer/photo copier/fax machine. The dining room table seats 12 and the breakfast bar seats an additional 6. Upstairs is a common area with couch that folds into a very comfortable queen sized bed (no really, it's amazing and not your typical terrible sofa bed) and a 40 inch LCD TV that can be used for watching DVDs or playing video games (if you bring your own console). A laundry room offers high end, large capacity Kenmore washer and dryer. The garage has room for 2 cars, a 240V receptacle for your electric vehicle, and contains firewood you are free to use. Off the garage you’ll find the mudroom is perfect for storing coats, boots and the like. On the stone patio, enjoy the private brand new (installed May 2017) hot tub—which seats 4 adults—and barbecue using the huge stainless steel Weber gas grill.
Bedrooms each have their own private bathroom en suite and feature European goose down pillows, top quality mattresses, high thread count bedding, bathrobes and Turkish cotton towels to make you comfortable (in case you are allergic to down pillows, we also have 2 pairs of hypoallergenic non-down pillows in closets). The master suite features a king bed, gas fireplace, balcony, jetted spa tub and standing shower. The second bedroom features a queen bed and private bathroom. The third bedroom has a king bed and private bathroom. The fourth bedroom has 3 bunk beds (to sleep 6) plus a bathroom. The upstairs common area has a queen sized sleeper sofa that is remarkably comfortable and firm and 89 inches in length--not your usual flimsy, terrible fold out couch where your feet hang off the end. 3 bathrooms have hair dryers.
Situated on half of an acre on a private cul-de-sac in the prestigious Big Springs neighborhood above the Village, Eagles Nest is a 10-minute walk (or a 1-minute drive) to the Timberline chair lift. The property features a grass backyard and natural forest and backs up to the Tompkins Memorial hiking trail. The Northstar shuttle service will pick up your group at the end of the driveway—just call and the shuttle usually arrives within minutes—and take you to the Village or recreation center for free. The rec center—available to guests for just $2 per visit—offers multiple swimming pools, a huge hot tub, a gym and, in the summer, tennis courts. The Northstar Village offers several great restaurants and bars, an ice-skating / roller-skating rink, a movie theater, a Starbucks and plenty of shopping. From The Eagles Nest, you may walk / hike down to the Village in less than 10 minutes on hiking paths and a natural stone stairway maintained by Northstar (though the path is not suitable for the frail or elderly nor when snow is on the ground).
If you do not bring a pet, we do not require a security deposit. Instead, we include a $59 insurance policy in every rental that covers $1,500 of property damage. If you do want to bring a pet, please request approval of the Owner when you inquire; bringing a pet necessitates a $2,000 refundable security deposit because the above-mentioned insurance only covers damage by people and does not cover damage by pets.
On Sundays January through May, we can usually allow 8pm checkout, allowing you to complete your day of skiing and refresh before departing (please ask for a late check out when you check in). Wrap up your day of fun, shower and refresh, and drive back after some of the traffic has eased!
Each visit must include a single, complete weekend (the Friday and Saturday nights must be back to back) unless you want to visit only for weeknights. For example, staying Thursday - Monday or Friday - Thursday are permitted; staying Saturday - Saturday is not permitted. Weekly rates assume a single, complete weekend (the Friday and Saturday nights must be back to back) plus 5 weeknights.
If you are booking more than 6 months in advance, we can accept a 25% deposit at time of booking with 75% due 6 months prior to check in. Contact the owner if you would like to request these payment terms.

About Jon Venverloh
We love gatherings of family and friends and chose this home because the layout of the common areas brings people together. At the same time, the bedrooms are quiet and private, and each has its own bathroom.
Jon Venverloh purchased this House in 2005
Why Jon Venverloh chose Truckee
This is a beautiful custom home built in 2002 to the highest standards. Big Springs homes are mostly 2nd and 3rd homes, so there is little traffic and it's extremely quiet. Take hikes right out the back door. In typical winters, it's even possible to ski in if you know the way!
What makes this House unique
The Eagles Nest is situated on about 1/2 of an acre with a very gentle slope towards the street. There is lots of space between homes in the Big Springs neighborhood. The driveway is easy to manage, unlike some of the properties in Tahoe.

What an awesome House. We were there for spring break and could not of had a better time. We had 2 families with a total of 6 kids and never felt cramped. This house is as advertised, we will definitely come back again.
Wonderful house for a 12 women annual get together
The kitchen was really big so many of us could work together with lots of room. It was well equipped and with a little searching, we found everything we needed. The huge dinning room table made dinner meals a fun social gathering. The living room is also spacious.
The shuttle service to the village was fabulously handy and we used it a lot. We never had to move our cars.
The bathrooms were large with good showers. We loved the hot tub.
The bunk beds were comfy and large.
The only slight inconvenience was that while the hide-a-bed was in use at night, it was hard to get to the bathroom from the bunk bed rooms where 3 of us older women were sleeping. Is it possible it could be moved to the little alcove next to the pool table and used to sleep two more people there at night? The half bathroom next to it is very convenient.
This house really worked well for our big group.
Perfect for our 3 families’ ski week!
We were 6 adults & 5 young kids - this house was perfect - the room with 3 bunk beds was perfect for all the kids & each family got their own private bedroom with en suite bathroom. The dining room table was big enough for all of us & the kitchen was perfect for cooking family meals. The hot tub & pool table & play areas were a huge bonus. The shuttle to the village was fast/easy. We would definitely return.
Perfect for the family
After staying at other properties that have false advertising, this one is on point. From the sqft to the pictures online, no surprises everything worked
clean as a whistle. Perfect for entertaining the whole family, with space
to relax. Especially love the seating area off the gameroom , two relaxing
chairs and fireplace prefect for quite morning coffee and reading. Will
return every year, as the family voted that is was the perfect place.
Thanks The Belleci Family
Perfect, will definitely be renting again
We've been renting properties for years in Mammoth, Park City and Tahoe and this was by far the best rental we've ever had. The home is luxurious, extremely well-appointed, and best of all, everything worked, which is quite rare! We will absolutely be staying at Eagle's Nest again.
Good, not Great
We have stayed in this area for winter and summer vacations for the last ten years and rented many houses, so we know what makes a great rental vs. good. This home has both great features and some that are just ok or not so good. First, the home was clean and well cared for, and the kitchen has everything you would ever need which is rare in a rental. The homes layout is perfect for large families with a great room and central kitchen, it made it easy to serve meals and enjoy the fireplace. The location is also excellent, it is the first stop on the shuttle but you can also walk to the village which we found to be a great option. The hot tub is awesome, and having a pool table kept our family entertained. The extra big dining table was also nice, the whole group could sit for a meal at the same time. Overall, the home itself is great, the concerns we had are very common with rentals but are easy to fix. First, the beds are all super firm, so if you normally don't sleep on a firm mattress, you will not get much sleep. Easy fix, have a memory foam pad in each bedroom so you can make the beds softer, or put in sleep number mattresses ( many rental do this). Second, when we went to use the BBQ, the gas ran out right in the middle of cooking. Easy to check, not sure why it happened. Third, the driveway is very narrow, curved and has a rock wall on one side. Backing a car down is not easy, and multiple cars is a pain since everyone gets locked in. As a preference, we prefer gas fireplaces that operate off a switch, it's easy to come and go by turning off the fireplace. If you like hauling wood and tending to a fire then this is a good fit. There are two smaller fireplaces that are gas, but one switch is behind the panel at the bottom which gets hot when in use. The one in the bedroom works ok. Finally, the entertainment system (TV, Music, WiFi) are dated, the TV is small and can't keep up with HD formats and constantly cuts in and out. The music system has some issues as well, one channel seems to be out leaving everything sounding hollow. An update to a smart TV and full wireless system would be welcome.
As I said overall, good, but not the best we have had at this price.
David - Thanks for your appreciation of the location, the layout, the kitchen, the hot tub, the pool table, the dining table and how clean and well equipped our home is. Sounds like you found the mattresses too firm. Usually an overly soft mattress means it is old or worn out and we prefer new, firmer ones. The upstairs king bed is, in fact, adjustable for firmness (each person can adjust to her/his liking) but perhaps you overlooked that. Nonetheless we like your idea of having a memory foam pad in each room and we are going to get those put in place. I also agree that the entertainment system is due for upgrades, so thanks for giving us a nudge to improve them. Thanks for your visit!
