About Kelvin Oglesby

Our family inherited this lake house from our beloved Papa. We currently live in Jackson, SC but always enjoy spending time at our lake house. My wife and I love to visit the lake and enjoy its beauty while our two children love to take the boat out and go tubing, swimming, and fishing. We look forward to sharing our home with you.

Kelvin Oglesby purchased this house in 2006

Why Kelvin Oglesby chose Lake Murray

Our home is located in a quiet neighborhood where anyone can go jogging, walking, or biking. The lake is within walking distance and hosts a multitude of wildlife. There is a park with a playground and a swimming area available for children to enjoy. There is also ample room for a boat if you wish to bring yours and parking for several vehicles.

What makes this house unique

Our home is not lakefront but you can't find a better location. The house is surrounded by beautiful shady trees and the front porch is great to sit on in the quiet of the evening or share a cup of coffee with that special one while snuggling on the swing in the morning. All of the window valances, dust ruffles and most of the comforters are hand-made by my wife and daughter. Our home makes a great retreat to escape the stress that so many of us have in our everyday lives.

Fishing Trip

  • 5 of 5

Property was as described and had no issues during my stay. It was close to the State Park boat ramp and made it a great experience and really enjoyed my vacation.

Great family stay!

  • 5 of 5

Quiet, quaint home! We stayed here for a family wedding on Lake Murray. We had a great time and enjoyed the convenience of the proximity to the wedding events. Will definitely return during a summertime to enjoy the lake.

Wonderful family stay

  • 5 of 5

We were in the area to visit family. The home was a great place to stay...the kids loved being so close to the private beach! We had everything we needed to make our trip complete. It was also easy to get to everywhere we needed to go! The owner also recommended a wonderful resturaunt within walking distance!

Nice home

  • 5 of 5

A group of us came down for a few days of fishing. The house was as described and was clean. There is ample room for quite a few people with the 2 queen, one set of bunk-beds and and the extra places to lay your head. Very clean and had every amenity you would need. Owners were accommodating and quick to respond back to my questions. It was really like a gigantic hotel suite for a fraction of the price. This was my first time I used VRBO and I was happy with the choice.

The area roads could use some repairs but now days that isn't a surprise anywhere.

Awful Customer Care

  • 1 of 5

My family came in from California for a week to visit my wife and I. We had a great time as a family but this home was a disaster. Here are my three main issues:

1. The home is much smaller than it appears online. If you have more than 3-4 people in your group, this property will not work.

2. This home is outdated. We couldn't use several appliances (toaster oven, microwave, etc) without worrying that they would short out or blow a fuse. Outdated appliances and a poorly kept home (mold in the guest bathroom) make for a bad visit.

3. Hellacious care by the owners - our second day their the septic tank began overflowing. The owners had it pumped only to discover a more extensive leak under the house. The tank filled up again and in 24 hours we had sewage overflowing in the front yard. The smell was awful and it removed a lot of the appeal of the home. The worst part was though, that the owners promised a partial refund (200-300 dollars) and never delivered. Not only did we have to endure a week of sewage in the front yard, but the owners outright lies to us about giving us a refund for the inconvenience.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry that you feel that way about our home as we take great pride in giving good customer service and providing a home that is clean and comfortable. To respond to your feedback: 1. Our home has many pictures online and we provide a description of the property and what is included within our home. It is a three bedroom home equipped with a queen bed in the master bedroom, a queen bed in the first guest bedroom, a full on the bottom bunk bed in the second guest bedroom, a queen size sleeper sofa in the living room and a queen size sleeper aerobed that is available. We have had as many as 12 people stay comfortably in our home as evidenced by our reviews. 2. Our home is not outdated. The appliances are less than 7 years old and in perfect working order. We have never had any complaints about our appliances nor have we ever had any trouble with them during our time spent there. There is a brown area about 7 inches in diameter on the ceiling of the guest bathroom where we had a roof leak several years ago but it definitely does not look like mold. Our plan is to have the entire house painted this next spring 3. We did have an issue with the septic tank while these renters were at our home but we responded immediately by calling a plumber and an electrician to deal with the issue. We ended up having over $7000 of work done to correct the problem. We also had the septic tank pumped twice that week to ensure that this family did not have any further issues. I did speak with the renter who informed me that he felt like they should get their money back but felt like they should be able to stay at the house for the full rental term. I NEVER told him that we would provide a refund especially if they were going to stay at our home! I told him that I would speak with my husband and let him know if we decided to refund any money. After speaking with my husband and reviewing the signed contract stating that no refunds will be provided for unforeseen issues that arise, I never spoke with him again about a refund. I have in the past when we had an issue once before years ago put renters up at a hotel at our expense when they felt like they could not stay in our home due to a hot water heater problem but that was not the case in this situation. It really is very disheartening to see this type of review when all of the rest of our reviews are excellent-especially since this renters review was based on lies because they wanted a free vacation.......
