Imagine being between San Francisco and Napa, Sonoma and Point Reyes. Imagine being minutes from El Cerrito, Albany, Berkeley and Oakland. The East Bay is incredibly diverse which means interesting activities & cultural events, great restaurants, ranging from the fabulous Chez Panisse to small family owned noodle, sushi, burrito, Cubanos, Burmese. Maybe you are coming to the Bay area for a vacation, to visit family, or on a work assignment . Marina Bay is a great place to be. Our community is tucked away and steps from the door is a walking and bike trail along the Bay. Most days you can see the Bay Bridge. A full size swimming pool and hot tub is across the parking area with a ping pong table ready for fun. A 5 minute walk brings you to the clubhouse with a full service gym, library, and quiet areas for reading or working and another pool with hot tub. Tennis courts are next to the clubhouse. Or, just take your morning coffee out onto the patio and read the paper or a good novel and just relax.
And, if you have a dog, you'll enjoy taking him or her to Pt. Isabel, one of the few off-leash dog parks in this area.
Our 1,000 square foot condo has two bedroom, two baths, fireplace, patio, full-sized washer and dryer, covered parking, room for 6-8 people for a sit down dinner, two TV’s (one is a “smart” TV) and a small but great kitchen. Yes, it has stainless steel appliances, a great big sink, and an induction cook top with electric oven. If you like to cook, you will love the induction cook top which heats up in a flash and cools down immediately with just a touch on the dial. It behaves like gas so you can control the heat and is found in many professional kitchens. And, unlike many rentals, when you come to our home, you will find a well-stocked kitchen. Not only do we have all the tools, pots and pans, dutch ovens, bowls, etc. but you will find oils, vinegars, flours, spices, sauces, canned goods, etc. So, once you head to the Safeway or the Natural Food Store or Trader Joe’s and come home with your groceries, you will be ready to go. All we ask is that you replace what you use for the next guests.
If you like movies, there are two small movie houses minutes away – one serving wine and beer and food. Great theater in San Francisco and in Berkeley at the Berkeley Repertory Company and Cal Performances at Zellerbach Hall on the UC Berkeley campus. Live performances at the Playhouse in Pt. Richmond, 10 minutes away. That’s just the beginning. In the East Bay and in San Francisco there are many places to visit. We love going to Golden Gate Park and visiting the deYoung museum, the California Academy of Sciences (a four story rain forest, penguins, a planetarium, aquarium), the Japanese gardens, the Arboretum. It’s fun to go to Japan Town and try Shabu Shabu. Why not a trip to Alcatraz, a walk along the Embarcadero and the Ferry Building and a ride on antique trolleys taking you down to the heart of the Castro through downtown San Francisco. The Rosie the Riveter Museum is near. Because we know that many of our guests like to explore, we have compiled a large book of restaurant suggestions and places to visit and our guests have added their favorite places as well.
About an hour away is Napa and Sonoma, home to many vineyards, lovely towns, beautiful scenery and amazing restaurants. You may want to stay in one of the charming and lovely inns overnight or make a day trip. We often choose a restaurant that serves lunch (most of them do) and go up for the day. You can visit wineries and take tours, explore the charming shops, or take bikes and ride some of the trails. There's also a Wine Train, if you prefer not to drive.
We live in Boston. About 3 years ago, we chose to buy this condo in Marina Bay so we could come see our granddaughters and get a break from the East Coast winters. When we are not here (see our calendar) it is our pleasure to share our home with you. We have had wonderful guests stay here and many come back year after year. We invite you to look at the pictures (we keep adding and upgrading) and give us a call to learn more. The minimum stay is a month, though you can use our condo as a home base as you explore the Bay Area.
Give us a call. We would love to talk with you and tell you more. By the way, ours is a first floor unit, dog-friendly, no steps and accessible.
The owners, Ann Sanders & Deborah Heller, both retired, are bi-coastal. We also have a home in Boston, MA. When we are here, we enjoy spending time with grandchildren and friends. The Bay area is beautiful, with lots to offer, no matter what your interests are. When we're not here, we look forward to having guests enjoy our home.
Ann Sanders purchased this condo in 2012
We were attracted to the unit because of the 2 BR/2BA, lovely patio, fireplace, and parking right outside the front door. It is sunny and bright, has comfortable space with privacy if friends come to visit or 2 couples choose to rent. We also like the opportunities for walking, swimming (two pools and hot tubs) and a well equipped gym. In addition, it has easy access to San Francisco & other East Bay communities, as well as wine country to the north. Lots of good shopping and restaurants in Oakland, Berkeley, El Cerrito and Richmond, an easy car ride away. San Francisco is 25-30 minutes away. There are BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) stations 10-15 minutes away, which provide an alternative to driving to San Francisco.
The condo is a corner unit with parking right out front. It is comfortably furnished with Cable TV, wireless. The kitchen is equipped for people who like to cook and the outside patio is great for breakfast on a sunny morning. Benefits also include quiet neighborhood, pool, hot tub & fitness center plus 24-hour security. Wood burning fireplace in unit, mature trees, bay shore walks, beaches, parks, fishing, ships/tugboat viewing in harbor, extensive Bay Trail, short distance to local restaurants, picnics & BBQ on Monument Green, off-leash dog walking at Pt. Isabel, live theater & museums. Sailboats/kayaks are easily launched into the protected harbor and guided trips to nearby islands are possible via East Bay Regional Park system.
The place was spacious and well stocked. The area was beautiful and everyone was friendly. Our dog loved taking her walks on the trail by the bay. Full cable package and good Internet. Area is as safe as they get. Hottub was just acrossed the parking lot. I worked in Berkeley while there and my commute was always under 30 min. We were there for three months and it felt like home(we move every 3 months for work so that is saying something) would stay again.
My friend and I are travel nurses and this place was perfect for our stay, we would have loved to stay longer. The fully stocked kitchen was great and the binder of information was such a great reference for places to go and eat during our stay. There are multiple amenities on the property. Would definitely come back!
We stayed cool during August 2015 at Marina Bay, Richmond, CA. We arrived at the condo to find all of the comforts and conveniences of home as promised - a beautiful, spacious and comfortable home for the month. The amenities at the complex there and the miles of the beautiful walking and biking path along the bay made it a perfect vacation spot even without all of the tourist attractions of Northern California. For us the condo was centrally located as we alternated between days in the city and some of its suburbs (especially Berkeley and Oakland) and the various attractions of wine country, redwood forests, coastal drives, or just regrouping at Marina Bay and away from the crowds of tourists. FasTrack lanes, BART, and timing our travel to avoid heavy traffic times made navigating the area much easier than expected. We loved "our" Richmond Bridge as well as the Golden Gate, but remained more cautious when it came to the Bay Bridge. We do recommend bringing your bicycles, if you cycle, so you can really get to know the immediate area - we counted at least 7 park areas and the marina along the bay trail in Marina Bay, plus the Rosie the Riveter National Monument, and somewhat further down the trail, the Rosie the Riveter National Museum - both were well worth our time. Grocery and drug stores and a variety of nearby restaurants were convenient for us on the days we chose not to travel afar. We had a wonderful, memorable, cool weather summer month (but not cold) and hope to go back again someday.
We spent the month of June at this condo with our two young children. The condo complex is very lovely with a nice pool right outside the condo and a terrific greenway right behind the condo. The condo is very comfortable with nice furnishings and accommodating kitchen. The Bay Trail is amazing and we spent hours on it each day and evening. You are a 2 minute walk from the Bay and a view of SF on a clear day.
The drawbacks for us were that this complex and unit are not very kid friendly and it is far from everything. The drivers in this complex drive very fast - there are very few children in this complex and the unit itself is not decorated for a family. We had to pack away a ton of stuff when we got there to make sure it was safe from our kids accidentally breaking anything.
However, the biggest disadvantage of this unit is the distance from everything. You are only 18 miles from SF but the traffic is horrible so you decide to take the train. Well, from parking lot to the El Cerrito BART stop to the Embarcadaro stop in SF is 50 minutes (so that is nearly 2 hours round trip by train to SF). You do not want to use the Richmond train station - it is scary. The El Cerrito BART stop is about 2 minutes further away and much nicer but the parking lot fills up by 7 am so you have to park in the shopping center and walk over, then you take a 30 minute train ride (after you buy your tickets and wait for the train) so it takes a total of 50 minutes one way - this makes for a long day especially since once you get there you have a good walk ahead of you.
Also, the Marina Bay community is beautiful with paths, a playground, nicely landscape common areas, and beautiful homes and condos but once you leave this area it is ugly!! The community is surrounded by industrial complexes and once you pass that you want to lock your door. We thought the area was very unattractive.
Overall, the complex was lovely but the general area was anything but that. We would recommend this unit to a couple with no kids and people with older children. Happy Travels!!
Wonderful, peaceful condo. Conveniently located to San Francisco, wine country, Tahoe, etc. Fully furnished with everything you need to make your stay perfect. Can't wait to return.
We stay here for 1 month as our daughter had to have surgery in Oakland. The condo worked out fantastic. Very well equipped for cooking and just cruising. Great size and very comfortable. Located across from the pool and hot tub which was great. The walking trail was perfect and well used.
We will stay again when we return to the City.
