About the property

Cabin, 4 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 4 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)

The best log cabin in Jewell Hollow, Luray Virginia and yes it is ADA compliant! Located near the peak of the Shenandoah Mountains/Skyline Drive, “A Buck’s Peak” is a quiet hide-away that accommodates peace and tranquility to help you and your family relax and “re-charge” the batteries. Four master bedrooms – 3 king beds and 1 queen, “A Buck’s Peak” sleeps 10 (with built in bunk beds) and brags the best views on the mountain. One jet-soaking tub in the upstairs master bedroom and the queen bedroom has an ADA compliant bathroom and shower. Both basement bedrooms have full baths! Hot tub (8-person, 120 jets), 55-inch Sony television with DIRECTV, stainless steel appliances, DVD with DVD library, screened-in porch, jet bathtubs upstairs, and a game room complete with a shuffleboard table, dart board and a Sony Play Station 1 (with games) are just some of the amenities that will ensure you and your family enjoy your stay. We have a super large fire-pit and wood is not provided. Additionally, we have two grills; one charcoal and one propane gas. Basic grilling utensils are there. We do not guarantee that the propane tank will be full - check the tank before grilling; please bring your own charcoal). Kitchen has granite counter-tops and stainless steel appliances and is fully stocked with all the pots, pans and plates to cook your meal and enjoy it! Sure, you can do your laundry at the cabin - full washer and dryer units are located next to the game rooms. Wi-fi/internet is NOT available; some guests use a cellular device with personally-owned hotspot - dependent on your cellular carrier. Verizon seems to be best. Pets are certainly welcome and we have a fenced in pet run for exercise. Please do not leave your pet in the pen if you leave the area; pets are confined to that space and other wildlife are interested. Additionally, if you leave your pet alone in the cabin, you must put the pet in a crate; crates are not provided i.e. you must bring your own. Pet fee is $40 for one pet, $80 for two pets or more. First 40 yards of drive is concrete - after the first 40 yards, the drive turns into gravel to take you up the mountain to this quiet hide-away. Four-wheel-drive highly recommended between October and April; front wheel drive the rest of the year is recommended. Wounded Warriors should ask about a special discount. Discounts are offered to either military (retired, active, Reservists) or teachers – ask for your discount up front to figure pricing AND BEFORE BOOKING WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD; please do not expect more than one discount - either military or educator (both are equal). Also, please do not request discount after paying on line - ask before booking - tell me up front you are military or an educator; thanks. Have a wonderful stay and please leave feedback at VRBO Listing #438245 to help us make “A Buck’s Peak” the best Luray cabin. Please visit us on FB too by searching A BUCKS PEAK. Book today.

Why Carl S. Ey chose Shenandoah Valley

A Buck's Peak resides in the Cabin Capital of Virginia. It is a large log cabin in the middle of nowhere but close enough to enjoy the fun stuff like Luray Caverns, Lake Arrowhead (3 miles away), canoeing and rafting on the Shenandoah River, zip-lining, wine-tasting, hiking (yes, you can hike right outside the cabin up to Skyline Drive), antiquing, all types of biking, great restaurants and nature enjoyment. This cabin will take your breath away with all of the accommodations from a super hot tub to a fully equipped kitchen to a large screen t.v. and incredible game room.

What makes this cabin unique

This is one of a VERY few ADA compliant log cabins in the Virginia's Cabin Capital, Luray, Virginia! Additionally, you can tell people you stayed in 'the holler!' A Buck's Peak is located in what Luray citizens refer to as Jewell Hollow or 'the holler.' We offer either a military discount or an educator discount (not both). Please tell me up front that you are an educator or an active/retired/reservist/former military member. This cabin is quiet and private - all of your distractions are removed; no internet option, cell service is practically non-existent as you are enjoying the middle of nature!

Amazing cabin, amazing views, perfect for adults and kids

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at A Bucks Peak was so wonderful and memorable. We had a group that included adults and children of all ages and everyone had an amazing time. It was a great home away from home to "unplug". Everyone enjoyed the views, the spaciousness of the cabin, the movies and games available. The kids never got bored. We were able to have family meals each night and smores by the fire. We were even able to bring our family pet along and he looooved the convenient dog run. The local property manger and owner were very kind and helpful! I had no problems reaching them throughout the rental process. Our family would like to make this cabin a part of our regular getaways!!! You will not be disappointed!

Peaceful and spacious refuge in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

This was really a wonderful break for all of us. There was a enough room for us to spread out and do our own thing when we weren't out hiking, checking out the breweries and wineries, and touring Luray Caverns. We started out small, walking around the grounds and down the road.

We enjoyed the firepit nearly every night. The firepit was stocked with a few pieces of wood and we bought more at the Walmart. Several of us sat out on the deck for hours at a time, reading and enjoying the absolutely fantastic view.

We did run into a bug problem, not stink bugs, but millipedes. It was a minor annoyance however, and we just swept them out each day. The hot tub was such a lifesaver after hiking the Leading Trails, which we ended up nicknaming the "Angryman Trail." It was the steepest thing I have ever hiked that wasn't a rock scramble.

I highly recommend the Page theater one night. The theater has that old-fashioned feel but excellent modern equipment - amazing themed theaters and an awesome selection at the concession stand.

We would definitely return and stay at this cabin again.

Very nice place. GPS coordinates for the record: -78.34387, 38.64217

  • 5 of 5

It's a very spacious cabin, decent sized bedrooms and bathrooms. Noise on the 2nd floor, like footsteps, can be heard by people sleeping on the first floor. And people going up and down the stairs can be heard by second floor residents. Such noise is no worse than an average home. Some of my party found the beds too soft - on one side - and firm on the other. The hot tub was put to good use. Bottom line: out of 8 of us, we were all pleased with the cabin, and had a good time there.

You DO need a vehicle with decent ground clearance to get up the rutted driveway. Driving something like a Prius, with low clearance is possible (one of my party had that car) but he found it unnerving. And in muddy or snowy weather, 2 wheel drive certainly would not cut it.

A peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

A Buck's Peak was a great choice for us. The home is spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful view across the valley. The deck was a great spot for morning coffee or nighttime stargazing. Other dwellings are screened by vegetation and it feels like you have the mountain to yourself. The kitchen was amply supplied for cooking and serving meals. The owner was professional in his dealings with us, and his local contact was easy to reach and helpful. Everything was as represented by the owner. We likely will return.

Great times at A Buck's Peak

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time this year at A Bucks Peak. Close to Skyline drive, so we went up there and hiked Stoney Man again. Awesome overlook of the town of Luray. Kayaked 8 miles on the Shenandoah river. Rode bikes on the Hawksbill Greenway with the kids in downtown Luray. We also went to Skyline caverns. Lots of activities in the Luray area and A Bucks Peak is very close to all of them. One night we sat on the front deck and stargazed. You can actually see the cosmos clearly. The road to the cabin has lost its ruggedness. Instead of a fun rocky accent, it is now boringly concreted. I understand....the minivans have to get up there. Fun place to stay. -Eric

Great weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at A Buck's Peak in the Shenandoah Mountains; the cabin was perfect and well stocked with anything that we could have needed for the weekend. Having a cup of morning coffee on the front deck, with a view of the Shenandoah Mountains, was the perfect way to start any day.

Right in the heart of the Shenandoah Mountain, A Buck's Peak is less than five miles off of the Skyline Drive. Biking, antiquing, wine tasting, zip-lining, Yogi Bear Park, Luray Caverns, whiskey tours, ATVing and the coolest movie theater on the East Coast are just a few of the attractions. Recommend you partake in Wine Tasting at both Gadino Cellars (Washington, VA) and Chester Gap cellars in Rhappahanock. Enjoy the antique shops in Washington, Virginia as well as Luray, Virginia. The Luray Movie Theater is a refurbished mansion that shows first-run movies. Finally, you can simply enjoy the 120 jet, 8-person hot tub on the log cabin's huge deck!
