About Betty Simpson
We are outdoor enthusiasts who love Squaw Valley. We grew up on the East Coast but moved to the San Francisco Bay Area 30 years ago and immediately fell in love with Lake Tahoe and skiing at Squaw Valley. But as is often said, you come to Squaw Valley to ski in the winter and stay to enjoy the summer. A true 4 season vacation area. We still come here as much as we can!
Betty Simpson purchased this House in 2005
Why Betty Simpson chose Olympic Valley
We bought this home because we wanted to frequently vacation in Squaw Valley. This exquisite lodge style home with incredible privacy and tranquility including a private pond in the backyard was perfect! Could it be any better? And to vacation at Squaw Valley where the weather is perfect for all 4 seasons. The huge snowfalls in the winter and the abundant bluebird ski days or the perfect summer days with temperatures just about guaranteed to be in the 70s-80s with bright blue skies and low humidity make it the perfect place to vacation. There is no greater place to take your family on a ski vacation or a summer getaway. Additionally our home is a terrific place to entertain colleagues and business associates. Squaw Valley and Lake Tahoe has it ALL from great sport activities, fantastic dining, the best weather. And this home takes advantage of that as well as offering the most tranquil setting in the area.
What makes this House unique
A designer home in a unique private setting, no road noise or noise from neighbors. Although Squaw Valley is a pristine valley most of the residential areas suffer from noise and lack of privacy. But Bear Pond Lodge is uniquely protected from this. Who could ask for more! Perhaps viewing a bear swimming in the pond!

Beautiful home with all amenities in great location. Owner very nice and easy to communicate with
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful home. Great Squaw location.
A VERY IMPRESSIVE PLACE
The property and surroundings were most impressive. It was comfortable for sleeping and the amenities for cooking and entertaining were great.
A few things were "off." I had to explore the water utilities after the upstairs bath,
across from the master bath, did not have hot water. Fortunately, I found a circulation
pump was unplugged. In the master bedroom, we could not lock the patio doors and
could not open a window in the bathroom.
I rate this place highly overall, considering tolerable drawbacks. The Squaw Valley
area is quite pleasant. It was a memorable birthday celebration at Bear Pond Lodge.
I’m glad you enjoyed your stay but sorry for your inconveniences. I am always available (or our caretaker) to help with glitches. I think the French doors in the bedroom were swollen due to the usually hot weather. Not sure about the bathroom window because it opened for us following your visit. I always do my best to insure a problem free visit to our home so sorry you had those “hiccups “.
Beautiful home in very peaceful and private setting!!!!
We had a wonderful time at this amazing house.....the setting was perfect for us.....amenities galore!!!
Beds were super comfy also.....
This house is situated in such a great location....you are close to Truckee which is about 12 minutes, or if you prefer, Tahoe City is only approx. 12 minutes also.....
The only disappointment, we never saw any bears in the Bear Pond....
Definitely consider renting this lovely home, you won’t be disappointed!
So glad you had such a wonderful time at our home. We love it and are always pleased others find it as magical as we do.
It epitomized my dream house, it was so lovely but relaxing, abundance of open space and large bdrms
The house's greatest appeal to me was the charm of wood floors, walls and ceilings. The first floor living spaces on either side of the gigantic cook's kitchen were spacious and comfortable. The four huge bedrooms all had baths and there were two laundry rooms. It couldn't have been a better layout for a family reunion. We used the fireplace daily, ate at home every night creating relaxing, family friendly dining for our three children under five and one night we had a birthday party for my daughter-in-law's brother. There were 17 of us including seven children under 7 and it never felt crowded. We'll always treasure our memories of our family reunion in a dream house.
Perfect Family Getaway and North Tahoe location
The house is extremely well located near Squaw Valley and Squaw Creek resorts. Squaw Valley lifts are very easy to get to. We didn't have much snow, but the house was so relaxing and homey we had a great time anyway.
The house is everything the descriptions says it is, with no disappointments. The owners have furnished and supplied the house as a home, and not a rental. In addition, they maintain the house extremely well, and everything works. They have made it to feel like your own vacation home, as opposed to a rental. Highly recommended.
Quiet get away
My family and I stayed December 23-27 and had a fabulous time. This house is located on a very quiet cul-de-sac; in fact we didn't have anyone show up at the neighboring homes until the evening of the 26th. We spent a lot of time in the open kitchen cooking, playing games and just enjoying each others company. The kitchen was very well equipped in comparison to any of the other homes we have stayed at and you couldn't ask for a better kitchen and dining room for entertaining a group. Our favorite place to hang out was in front of the fire which was magnificent too. Overall this property was very spacious and allowed everyone to have their own space and a large enough area for us all to congregate together. If Betty will have us back my family is already trying to organize a trip for the summer months as we are all sure this property would be great to stay in anytime of the year.
Squaw Valley, known as one of the best ski resorts in the country, is also a great summer resort as well. Additionally, Alpine Meadows is now included in your ski lift ticket. KSL purchased Squaw Valley in 2011 and has been busy making Squaw Valley and even better 4 season resort with improved snow making, snow grooming, additional ski lifts and apres ski activities and many new summer events such as Wanderlust. Whether you want to ski, snowboard, cross country ski, sled, tube or ice skate in the winter, or golf, hike, bike, swim, water ski, kayak or sail in the summer Squaw Valley is the place to go. And of course it is also the best place to go to rest, relax, and renew yourself.
