Can't Wait to Go Back!
What a perfect house in a perfect location. Our family went in July- we had 9 adults and 1 toddler. This was our first time in this house- we had more family going this year and needed a larger house. The view was wonderful and it was a very quick and easy walk to town. While off a main road, it really wasn't noisy. I don't recall feeling like there was a lot of traffic or hearing the cars. The house was quite spacious, yet warm. You can tell a lot of thought was put in every detail. There were several areas to congregate as a family, but it was also possible to find a quiet place to sit and read. There was plenty of room for all of us.
I'll provide some specifics just to help other readers. We brought a toddler mattress for our son to sleep on the floor as typically homes don't come equipped with beds that have guard rails. There is a small bedroom on the first floor- it is for one person with a single bed. It's actually quite quaint and cozy, but it's really a small room you would only sleep in. It is connected to a nice den though, so it can feel like a nice extension to the room. There is also a full bathroom right next to it. It's almost like a little studio apartment within the house. There is also another regular size bedroom on the first floor. There is a very nice full bath right next to it. Upstairs there are three bedrooms. The master suite overlooks Oyster Pond and has a very nice full bathroom in it. Very spacious. There is a slightly smaller bedroom that is very nice and cozy that has a full bath attached. From this bedroom you can walk into more of what feels like a loft bedroom-the one with the twin beds in the picture. There is also a back staircase to access this other bedroom, so you do not have to walk through one bedroom to get to another. This loft bedroom has a half bath. This is a great room for young kids, but you do have to be careful with the back staircase since it's pretty steep.
As far as kids go, we managed it well with one toddler. There are a lot of breakable things in this house, so I probably wouldn't recommend it if really small children outnumber the parents. That being said, it still felt like a home, so it is a great family environment. There were plenty of fun things for our son to play with.
Overall this was a wonderful house. We truly loved being there and can't wait to come back. Wish we could do it every summer!
Delightful Surprise - Gracious and Generous Owner
My husband and I had actually rented the Windmill cottage which is behind this Sea Captains house but due to some delays in construction and thanks to a very gracious and generous owner we were able to stay in this Sea Captains house. What an amazing place. It is peaceful overlooking Oyster Pond. The grounds are lovely with an outdoor garden area with a patio and grill; plus there's a screened in porch on the front so you can enjoy many hours of reading, napping or just contemplating life. The house is beautifully decorated; the kitchen is updated and extremely usable. We had a delightful time. And if we come back to the Cape we will definitely book this property again.
My husband and I rented the Sea Captains House in Chatham for twelve days, we had our children and their spouses, and grandchildren join us for a very memorable vacation. The Sea Captains House is in a great location, we were able to walk into town to shop and for dining. While in Chatham we also took in a few baseball games, the field was only two blocks away.
The house is charming and comfortable as well as being beautifully furnished. We enjoyed many meals at home and found the kitchens to be fully equipped with pots, dishes, utensils, etc. Another exceptional amenity was the WIFI.
We look forward to returning for another special visit.
Our extended family rented this home for this past Columbus Day weekend. This is the third house we have rented on Cape Cod and is by far the best.
Everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom and my daughter and her husband really liked the upstairs bedroom that connected with the twin bed room. Our 18 month old granddaughter slept in there so they were able to be near her without having to be in the same room. We stayed in the front bedroom and had a view of Oyster Pond.
The location is excellent. We were easily able to walk into town to shop and try the restaurants. Chatham is one of the prettiest villages on the Cape.
The house itself is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, well stocked and well maintained. Linda and Stan must really love this house to keep it so nice for their guests.
You couldn't ask for a nicer place to stay. We just loved our long weekend there.
Beautiful home in perfect location
Our family of twelve stayed in this home the last week of July, 2014. We had a fabulous week coming from Kansas, Washington, Colorado and Iowa. This house is in a great location for exploring the cape. It is also in a great location in Chatham, five minutes or less from the Main Street and across from Oyster Pond. I did not think the children, all twelve and older, would enjoy this pond, but they did. Of course, the ocean beaches were best. The old part of the house has been beautifully restored, and the back addition is in very good shape too. I have never rented a home with such a well stocked kitchen! In fact, there are two kitchens! There is also a fantastic gas grill on the patio. The only negative that we experienced was the sleeping situation. To sleep twelve, you have to unfold the couches every night and put them up in the morning as they are in the main living areas. I will admit that Linda told me this. It was okay, but not ideal. Despite that fact, this is a beautiful home n a perfect location, and I do not hesitate to recommend it for your stay on the cape.
It is our intention to have our visitors have the most wonderful vacation in our home. Thank you Springer family for your thoughtful comments and kind words. Yes, we are located in one of the most desirable areas in Chatham and in one of the most saught after towns to vacation on the Cape. A 45 miute drive to quaint "P" town, a 10 minute drive to Harwick to catch the ferry to Nantucket, and a 1/2 hour drive to Hyannis to catch the ferry to either Marth's Vineyard or Nantucket on the fast boat. Our location in town is perfect; we are on beautiful Oyster Pond with fabulous views and yet right down the street is the wonderful walking village of Chatham, one of the few walking villages on the Cape. Enjoy the shopping, dining, and the newly restored movie theatre. You can walk to everything. The Chatham food market and a brand new CVS is a three minute walk.
Thank you for mentioning our kitchen (s), yes we do have two. The kitchen in the front great room for entertaining and light meals, maybe breakfast on the screened in porch all overlooking the water and then a cooking kitchen for dining either on the new blue stone patio or our European feeling dining area. Yes, we are well equiped,;we generally spend Thanksgiving in Chatham so many big dinners have been prepared. So happy you enjoyed that grill.
I thought your sleeping situation might be challenging. We highly reccommend only 9-10 guests . We sleep ideally 9 in beds in 5 bedrooms. Thank you for acknowledging my conversation with you to warn you of the setup. We have the sofa beds just for a rare overnight quests situation, not for a week on vacation.. We want our guests to be comfortable and have a restful vacation.
Thank you again for your recommendation, so happy you had a memorable week. Best, Linda
beautiful home, fabulous location, outstanding for a large family reunion!
We rented all 3 of the properties on this "compound" from Linda for a large family (16 people) reunion. Our children ages spanned from 5-20 years old. The properties were nothing less than perfect. We had plenty of space to spread out as well gather as a large family. We cooked meals together a few nights and other nights went out for dinner in downtown Chatham. The grocery store is literally 1 block away which made food shopping so easy. We all loved the beauty and uniqueness of each of the 3 homes on this property. Each home was beautifully (and fully) appointed and charming. Each home had laundry facilities and a kitchen. We all loved the quick (less than 5 minute) walk to downtown Chatham. Oyster Pond is literally across the street--a gorgeous view and great smaller beach for little ones. There was a large grassy area on the property for the kids to play, which we all enjoyed at the end/beginning of each day. Chatham beaches are a quick drive away. All in all, I/we can't recommend Linda's properties enough for either a family vacation. Outstanding!!!!
Thank you for this glowing report. Yes, our home is located in one of the desirable areas of Chatham, and yes it is so convenient to everything. Renting the entire compound is so wonderful and great for family reunions. You can be together in the Sea Captain's House and then have your own private times in either the Wind Mill or Carriage House. You can be together or have your own space all at the same time. There is also the freedom of walking everywhere, everything is so close; downtown for shopping, dining, and going to the movies in our newly restored movie theater. Our family spends Thanksgiving at our Compound and there are 19 of us, it is such fun. .
Cara, thank you so much for your kind words, we work very hard to to have our home very comfortable so our visitors feel right at home. We have worked to maintain the feel of our properties and their uniqueness while offering modern conveniences; blending the old with the new.
I hope you and your family will visit us again, it was a pleasure to have you as a visitor and treat our homes with great TLC.
