It is called 'Il borgo delle camelie' because in every garden, villa or field there are some camelias. In March they are full of coloured flowers and so people celebrate this with a fair during four weekends. People can visit the most important villas and see some camelias aged also 200 years, tasting the first italian tea extracted from these local trees. Saint Andrea is famous for its olive oil and natural spring.

The country house made by stones, has been completely renovated in December 2011. In front of it there is a large fenced terrace with an attractive landscape of the hills around it. There is a shower with warm and cold water, a refrigerator for your drinks and a wooden changing room. For children a swing and a slide. Close to the house there is a private parking. Few steps and you can eat in a lovely pizzeria trattoria with typical Tuscan specialties. In the house there are two mountain bikes available for your use. At the end of October in Lucca there is the fair of COMICS for the lovers and confectioners of this sector.

On the ground floor: living room with fireplace (very pretty in winter time), dining room, full kitchen, 1 bathroom with shower cubicle, 1 little service room with washer and a safe, 1 large bedroom (for people with restricted mobility)

On 1st floor: 1 double bedroom, 2 twin bedrooms,1 bathroom with shower cubicle, 1 studio room with a sofa-bed and another large bathroom with a bathtub and a separated shower.

On the 2nd floor (attic): 1 twin bedroom, 1 bathroom with Jacuzzi and a double bed room.

All the rooms are provided with mosquito nets on the windows.

Taste of Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one week in Casa Della Farfalle during mid-November. The house was big enough for all us (6 adults). The views are remarkable, the local Bar, Pub and Pizzeria (all in one) offering good food and wine. The location of the village is excellent for car travel across Tuscany. We visited most of the famous cities – Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano. If you like wines visit Fattoria Poggio Alloro near San Gimignano. This was perfect vacation, thank you Silvana.

This was a stunning house. Spacious enough for three families. The location and views were fabulous. Silvana was so thoughtful - she made a delicious bowl of pasta and two traditional Tuscany cakes for our arrival. Adults and children alike all thoroughly enjoyed the holiday.

True Tuscan home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this wonderful Tuscan home for 1 week in June. As a family group of 9 adults and 1 child, there were plenty of bedrooms for all. Decorated in true farm house style, we loved how comfortable everyone felt there. The home is located in a tiny village and you really feel part of Italian life: church bells ringing, narrow streets, beautiful views, walking to the restaurant/bar. We didn't cook much in the kitchen, preferred to enjoy the wonderful Italian restaurants, but the kitchen is large and well stocked. Loved sitting out on the outdoor patio area after a long day of sightseeing with a glass of wine. The home is a great location for touring: we visited Lucca, Cinque Terre, Siena, San Gimignano, Florence, wine/olive oil tasting. At the end of the day however, relaxing at the home, sipping some wine, talking with family, laughing and playing games and walking to the local restaurant is what everyone loved. Silvana is a wonderful host, from welcoming us at the house, to having wine, pasta and cake waiting for us our first day, explaining the area, even picking up a birthday cake ordered from the local bakery (we were going to be gone all day). I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to have a true Tuscan experience.

A Wonderful Home in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

For two weeks, Casa Delle Farfalle was our Italian home. During that time, our children and grandchildren joined us, some for only two nights and others for 10 nights. On the one night that all 13 of us were there, Silvana gave us a lesson in Italian cooking and prepared a wonderful meal, which we shared al fresco on the large patio.

The 16th Century farmhouse was wonderful and was very comfortable for our family. It is beautifully appointed with antique furniture, but essential areas like the bathrooms are very modern and comfortable. The kitchen and dining room are well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. The large patio across the driveway with the BBQ easily accommodated our whole family and the pool was a must for us with children ranging in age from four to 15.

Silvana was an incredible host. The smallest problem was solved immediately. We arrived late on a Saturday afternoon and she had prepared a wonderful meal for us. She very graciously offered to do some grocery shopping for us, since most businesses are closed on Sunday. We sent her a list and arrived to a well stocked refrigerator. She also gave us a brief tour of the surrounding villages, so we knew where to find a supermarket and the butcher shop.

We loved the village of Sant Andrea di Compito. We made our way to the bakery on many mornings and really enjoyed the one beautiful restaurant that overlooks the valley to the east. We attended the lovely local Catholic Church on two Sundays. Our grandsons joined the local kids for after dinner soccer games at the Community Center. The best thing about the village was its location. We made easy day trips to Lucca, Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano, Cinque Terre and the beach.

This was one of the most wonderful and relaxing vacations we have ever had.

Summer Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

To celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, my wife and I chose to take our children and their spouses to Europe. One requirement was to find a home where we could all stay together and take day trips to various sites; this proved to be a challenge since we were a group of 11. We selected several home choices and began to communicate with the home owner. We soon discovered Silvana was very responsive and willing to help us with reservations and accommodations. The personal interface helped us feel secure with choosing to stay at her home.

We arrived to the home and she welcomed us with a warm greeting and a local touch of pasta, wine and sweet bread. The home was perfect for us. Silvana has done a great job of decorations, appointments and amenities. She thought of everything and had it available in the home. We used the pool, the patio, the Jacuzzi tub and the grill. The kids were happy to have WIFI. We had plenty of room and were not "on top" of one another. The little village was lovely and the view was spectacular. The location proved to be adequate for our day trips with close access to the AutoStrada.

We highly recommend this home to other visitors and are talking about our return trip. Make sure you ask about the natural mountain spring where you can fill up your own water jugs with cool refreshing water.

Great house for a large group in a quiet village

  • 5 of 5

We had three families with 11 people total stay here in late-June/early-July, 2013. There is plenty of room in the clean, 6 bedroom / 4 bathroom, recently renovated house which was built in about 1600. It also has a well stocked, large kitchen and extra large dinning room for the groups meals. Outside the home there is a large patio with another large table for group activities along with a private garden area with a pool just below the house. The house and outdoor areas have wonderful views of olive orchards and grape vineyards. Our host, Silvana was simply wonderful and communicated with us regularly before our stay. We appreciated the extra effort she made to make our stay an amazing experience. We even had a great Italian meal ready for us when we arrived and had a cooking class taught by Silvana on another evening. The house is situated in the middle of the village of Sant'andrea di Compito. Where the church bells announce every hour and half hour. There is an excellent restaurant a mere 100 m from the house. Although there are a few small food shops within walking distance, we chose to drive to the larger grocery stores about 5 km from the house. There are bus stops in town, but we never saw any buses and so are not sure if they a currently running. It is recommended that you rent a car if staying here since Lucca (the largest nearby city) is about 25 km away. The roads through town are very narrow but lightly traveled and we managed just fine even with a 9 passenger van. Driving time to Pisa was about one hour and Florence was about one and a half hours. We would definitely recommend this for larger families or groups who want to relax in the Tuscan countryside and are OK driving at least a bit. When we return, we will definitely plan to rent this house again.
