The apartment is attached to the end of our farm house and is surrounded on three sides by green pastures and grazing long horned cattle and horses. Relax and enjoy the peace and quiet on the front screened porch or secluded back deck. Cook outside on the grill and eat while watching the sun disappear behind the forest. Inside we have comfortable sofas, satellite TV, DVD player with a good selection of movies, CD player, books to read and games to play. The kitchen is open to the family room and has a large side by side refrigerator with ice and water through the door, large microwave oven, coffee maker, toaster oven, dishwasher, garbage disposal, and all the dishes, glasses, wine glasses, utensils and cooking dishes and utensils you could use. The kitchen table comfortably sits four and is the perfect size for games or puzzle making. Around the corner from the kitchen is a full size washer and dryer as well as a desk. The bathroom is roomy with a shower, large vanity with lots of storage, toilet and separate urinal. Across from the bathroom is a spacious walk in closet also with plenty of storage. Extra towels and linens can be found in the closet as well as large towels for use after using the pool. Bedroom #1 has a queen sized bed and a view of the front deck. Bedroom #2 has a full size bed with views of both the front and back decks. The apartment is about 830 sqft and will very comfortably fit up to three people. The apartment was originally built for a handicapped family member so it has handrails and pocket doors on the bathroom and bedroom #1. Only one small step leads in and out of front and back doors so an individual in a wheelchair would require some assistance. The apartment has central air-conditioning and heat and there are wood laminate floors throughout.
Outside the long front deck is completely handicapped accessible with a long ramp and cement walkways all the way to the parking area and indoor pool. The lap pool is nearly 40 feet long by 20 feet wide and is only 5 feet at its deepest. The bathroom in the pool house includes a shower and enough room to change. The pool is heated by solar panels on the roof and stays warm most of the year.
Our property is fully fenced and has a security gate at the end of our driveway. Guests will be given their own gate code to enter the property. The driveway is paved and exactly 1/4ml long and with a gradual incline it's great for running lapse in you are so inclined. We also have a 1 mile walking trail around the perimeter of our property that would allow you to get up close and personal with our livestock and be comfortable with a fence between you. We also frequently see deer, fox squirrel, armadillo, gopher tortoises, red and grey fox, hawks, eagles, and coyote on our property. Our property is surrounded by the Withlacoochee state forest on one side, a 350 acre dairy farm on another and preserve on the third. The state forest can be accessed from our property and has many well marked trails for hiking or horseback riding.
Every since I was a little girl I always knew I would someday live on a farm. I loved horses, animals of every kind, large open spaces and growing my own food. It was a long journey to get to this point but it has been well worth it. My husband and I love the peacefulness that surrounds us here. The sky is big and a night we love to look at the stars with no city lights to distract us. Currently I would classify White Rooster Farm as a hobby farm for now. We have raised long horned cattle and chickens, I grow blackberries, grapes, variety of veggies and herbs. I love riding my horses in the forest and exploring new trails with friends. I am also a traveler and have been to many places around the world. I love meeting new people and look forward to sharing a little time on my farm with guests.
Debbie Roik purchased this apartment in 2004
Citrus county is such a beautiful place to live. I am close to everything I could possibly want. The forest for hiking or horseback riding or the rivers for boating and exploring or the beach for swimming. I am close enough to Tampa and Orlando to just spend the day there. In fact the Tampa airport is just over an hour away and there is not a single traffic light from my driveway to check in.
We fell in love with this piece of property the moment we drove up the driveway. I could see the potential. Today it looks very different then when we purchased it in 2004, and we are still a work in progress but it continues to get better year after year.
From the moment we turned up the driveway, we loved the setting - lots of sprawling grassy areas, with huge trees clumped around the neatly maintained, fenced fields. Owners were casual and welcoming, helpful and available as necessary, but let us have our space and quiet. Majestic longhorn cattle meandered around throughout the day, munching happily; the roosters were quite respectful as they crowed around 7:00 but you had to be outside to hear them. No unwanted wakeup calls.
Everything we needed was provided in the comfortable apartment. Felt more like a cute little house. We could easily sit on porch or walk around property all day; we used it as a base for siteseeing inland as well as along the Gulf finger peninsulas and islands. Can pretty much do whatever suits - retreat or run about. We enjoyed watching all the animals -horses, chickens, goats, birds, and most especially the resident and exceptionally friendly Yellowfoot tortoise............probably hated to say goodbye to him the most. Easy to get to from Tampa airport; weather was perfect in October. Highly recommend it! Note-I rarely write reviews for anyone or anything.
Our stay at the farm made for an awesome vacation. The farm was very peaceful. Each morning we enjoyed coffee on the porch, watching the animals, and walking the property. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed to make meals and enjoy a comfortable stay. The pool was also a pure enjoyment to use. The temperature of the pool was very inviting. The location of the farm was also nice- not too far from activities but far enough in the country to be a peaceful retreat. Debbie has done an awesome job ensuring your stay at the farm will be enjoyable. I highly recommend staying here.
A beautiful and relaxing place to stay. My husband and I stayed at the White Rooster Farm for five nights, and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Everything was clean and cozy, with a charming farm theme. The hosts were delightful, as well as very helpful. A binder has been thoughtfully prepared with recommendations for things to do and places to visit. Personally, we were just looking for a place to relax - and the farm setting definitely provided this. We spent our days "chilling out" (as our host Debbie would say), sitting on the big rocking chairs on the porch, watching the long-horns graze, often taking the 1-mile walk around the perimeter of the farm acreage, stopping to pet the horses and the goats, and to cackle with the chickens (as well as enjoy their fresh eggs that are available for purchase!) We are blessed and grateful to have had the opportunity to enjoy this restful time at the farm.
The apartment was cozy & clean. Beds very comfortable. Owners were great to deal with. We loved the pool & animals. The fresh eggs were also awesome! This is a great place to stay for any nature lover. Awesome caves nearby in the Withlacoochee Forest to explore. Crystal River is beautiful & Inverness has great restaurants. Cool thrift stores in Homosassa. Would definitely return! Love this area and hope to move up here.
We enjoyed our stay so much last year that we visited again! It's so peaceful and the home has everything to make your stay comfortable. The large indoor pool is a bonus for a dip at the end of the day. You just can't beat sitting on the porch and relaxing! Debbie and Robert are on hand to help with any questions and are great hosts. Fresh eggs from their farm will be delivered on request.
We rented both the 4 bedroom house and the 2 bedroom apartment. This is for the 4 bedroom home.
It is a beautiful rural location on a small ranch/farm with horses, cattle, chickens, goats... We were in Florida for a family reunion and the farm served as our reunion central during the day and housed my 2 sons, my daughter, and her husband and kids at night. The house is not particularly large to look at but has a great layout with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on each side and the kitchen, dining room, and living room in the center in an open floorplan. 2 recliners and a couch plus 6 dining room chairs and an extra chair in each bedroom made it very comfortable when the rest of the family came by during the day. There is also a picnic table in the back yard and a table and chairs on the patio. Cell phone coverage for ATT was a little spotty inside the house but no problem outside. Internet is by satellite but reported a very decent 6 Mbps down when tested. My oldest son had great success streaming some of his favorite TV shows from Hulu. The landlords or on site and were very responsive to requests. The pool is saltwater, 20 x 40 (very good size). Shower and refrigerator in the pool house. A few small life jackets, pool lounges, and other pool items are available as well. The price is extremely affordable as well.
We had a couple of minor issues while there but the landlords were ready to address them right away so I don't even have complaints about those. We have been doing family reunions every other year for almost 30 years and this was the best place we have stayed so far. Highly recommended!
Just minutes east of Homosassa, our 41 acre farm is located in the heart of the Withlacoochee State Forest. The forest has over 41,000 acres of well marked trails for hiking and horseback riding. Explore caves, Holder mine and even what's left of the abandoned ghost town of Mannfield, all within the forest just minutes from our farm. Meet manatees up close and personal at the Homosassa Wildlife Park, learn everything about butterflies at Homosassa Butterfly, bike or walk along the 46 mile Withlacoochee State Trail, check out ancient Indian mounds and artifacts by a full moon at the Crystal River Archaeological State Park, hit the beach at Fort Island Gulf Beach and Fishing Pier, get excited at the Citrus County Speedway, or watch a play at one of our local Community Theatres. There is so much to do and see here, boating, fishing, birdwatching, horseback riding, kayaking, antique shopping, and museums just to name a few. Then after a busy day exploring come back and relax on our farm. It's quiet, no traffic, just cows and horses peacefully grazing just feet away from the front porch.
