Enchanting Redwood Grove

Bedrooms 3

Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Cozy multi-level 3 bedroom home in your own quiet 3 acre redwood forest

A talented craftsman has converted and updated what was once a tiny cabin into a one-of-a-kind home in a private redwood forest. This home has redwood inside and out to create the feeling of being cradled by nature. The home offers an easy-going ambiance, with no less than 18 skylights, flooding the interior living spaces with the light, color, and serenity from the surrounding forest. There are artisan touches from the gnarled door pulls to the exposed beams in the original living room side-by-side with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable and restful stay. Bedroom #1 has a King size bed, two large skylights, and a private half bathroom. It is upstairs where you can get away from the TVs and other guests in your group for a little solitude . Bedroom #2 has one Queen bed, a skylight, and a private full bathroom (tub/no shower). It is on the main floor for those who don't do well with stairs or like to be near the action. Bedroom #3 has a Queen bed and a Queen Size futon/bed. This room is down a half flight of stairs and has a TV with DVD/VCR...the kids love this room but adults enjoy the feeling of privacy too. Outside is a wide wrap around deck for enjoying the fresh air of the forest with a hot cup of coffee in the morning or a chilled glass of wine in the evening. Relax at the end of your day in the salt water hot tub under the redwoods.

About Lucy Edwards

We live in the San Francisco Bay area and our Mendocino home is just 3 hours away...close enough for a quick getaway and yet feels like a complete escape from our daily lives.

Lucy Edwards purchased this house in 2000

Why Lucy Edwards chose Little River

Having a home one mile inland allows us to enjoy many more sunny days above the fog line and we can go to the beach on the days the sun breaks through the fog. We get the best of both worlds here in the redwoods.

What makes this house unique

Artisan wood work details inside the home. Reclaimed 'Old Growth' redwood planks above the fireplace. Wide wrap-around redwood deck. Skylights in nearly every room allow full enjoyment of the towering redwoods surrounding the home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

To Whom it May Concern,

We have had the wonderful opportunity to stay at the Little River Redwoods home several times both as a family get away and as an adults only vacation respite. It proved to be a wonderful option for both. It is quiet and peaceful, wonderfully appointed with every amenity, very private, and is on beautiful grounds. This home has great play area for kids, great outdoor bbq area and a large spa for quiet evenings or fun for the kids. Fantastic hikes can be taken right from the property or a short drive takes a family or a couple to an abundance of hiking trails, river and ocean fun and tourist attractions. We will be back as often as possible and recommend it to our friends.

Thank You!!

What a georgeous place! I would highly recommed it!

  • 5 of 5

My family spent three wonderful nights there. The location is georgeous, and it’s obviously that lots of love and care were put into the design of the house and its decorating. The kitchen was spacious and well-equiped for cooking, and we also enjoyed the hot tub on the cool fall nights. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

Wonderful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We rented this wonderful cottage for an extended weekend for a wedding near by. The house was very easy to locate , getting the info package and keys near by. We arrived late so we didn't see the grounds as we entered. The grounds are beautiful with huge trees and a great wrap around deck. All the beds were very comfy with nice bedding. I have no hesitation to recommend this house as all was in very good condition. The one thing we noticed is there didn't seem to be any recycle program so we collected our recyclables and brought them with us to where they could get recycled. Just another tip put a label under each light switch to tell you what that switch turns on

Owner's Response: Great recommendation to have a recycle bin available. Our managers have responded that 'surprise' we do have one in the bear-proof cabinet just outside the door. As owners who often stay there we admit that we didn't know. We always took our recyclables home with us. So, thanks to your suggestion, we will make the recycle can readily recognizable as such. Thanks so much for a beautiful review!

Our stay was beyond wonderful! The house had everything we needed and more! We loved watching the stars at night through the skylights and listening to the rain as it them. The location was perfect for day trips and being in the redwoods was great! We felt like we were all alone even though we were close to a town. Having a huge Coast Guard plane buzz the house doing touch and go's one day was an added bonus - sounded like a train coming through the house as he came over, but it was an experience like no other! We are already wanting to plan another trip up to the house!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write this beautiful review. Your mention of seeing the stars thought the skylights is one of my favorite things too. One night I awoke to the magic of a full moon glowing through the master bedroom skylight. I was surprised to hear you had some rain JUNE! This is California after all and normally it would be all sunny days a foggy beaches. But rainy days mean a crackling fire to cozy up to so we love to have a little of sun and a little of rain. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Perfect Retreat for Our Group of Friends

  • 5 of 5

Six of us rented this house for a long weekend. The three bedrooms and spacious common areas allowed for privacy as well as time spent cooking, eating, and sitting around the fire. The location was perfect. The huge redwood trees surrounding the house made it feel magical, and the hot tub was great way to unwind after a long car trip. Special thanks to Lucy, who gave clear instructions on how to find and get in the house. I'd definitely stay here again next time I am on the coast.

Beautiful Redwood home in the Redwoods

  • 5 of 5

This home is beautiful in side and out with clear heart redwood walls, exposed beams and ceilings through out the main level. Bountiful skylights every where you look (even on the back porch), huge professional kitchen, fire place in the family room (they provide the wood) and large wrap around deck on back and side with a great hot tub with redwood stairs to get in and out with out getting off on the dirt. My daughter planed for over two years to get married in Mendocino which took up most of our time. We managed to stay a few days before and after the wedding and loved this house. Large lot with many large redwood trees make it a secluded location, peaceful and quite. The house location was just outside of Mendocino in a city called Little River, just 5 or 10 minutes away from down town Mendocino. The main bedroom is on the main house level (complete private bath), second bedroom is three or four steps down (shares the common complete bath main level just off the hallway) and the third bedroom is up a flight of stairs (has a private 1/2 bath), but all three bedrooms are beautiful. The family room and main dining room are right off the front door and make a great room for entertaining or large size family get together's.

We can not wait to come back on out next visit so we can enjoy the house all by its self for a get away weekend. All we need to bring is a good book and a few bottles of wine!!
