Minimum Stay 1 - 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible Bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)

We love our home that's been remodeled with you in mind. As you enter you'll see the large, heated pool and separate hot tub through one of three sets of French doors leading to the huge (37' X 50') lanai. The spacious comfortable living room has queen sized pullout, two wingback chairs, and a wine cabinet. .

The kitchen with granite counters features an under-mounted deep double sink, There are under-counter lights too, with a generous island and stools for watching the chef. We're equipped with everything to cook a gourmet meal or prepare easy snacks, including a 2nd full-size refrigerator in the garage. A full set of dishes, cook and bake ware are all ready for you.

The separate dining room seats eight. We have china service for 16 in the hutch. The 7.5 foot table can also be used for cards, puzzles, games or just visiting while you watch through the big front window for sand cranes or flocks of ibis walking through the yard. You'll see why we call the home 'Seaglass Sojourn' because there is gorgeous painted furniture in soft seaglass colors in each room.

The split bedroom floor plan allows for maximum privacy. The master bedroom, which opens to the lanai, features a large bathroom with a comfort-level commode, two sinks, sunken tub and separate tiled shower. The queen and twin bedrooms are on the opposite side of the house, with roomy closets and lots of drawer space. The smaller 2nd bathroom has much of the same comfort as the master bath.

Seven overhead fans complement air conditioning for summer and we also have a real wood burning fireplace for the cozy winter evenings when you want to curl up to read a good book or watch TV. We believe every seat should have a place for a drink and a lamp. We have puzzles, games, books for children and adults too. We can sleep 8 in our 1918 sq.ft. home, so it's OK to invite your best friends along, but just two works beautifully also. In the attached garage you'll find beach equipment such as sand toys, beach chairs, coolers, and 3 adult plus 2 youth bikes with helmets. Entrance from the garage is ramped, as are all three French doors to the lanai. All doors are extra wide. An over-sized front load washer and dryer in the laundry, along with a tiled folding table, iron and ironing board make even laundry easy.

We're located on a canal, so you may see an anhinga drying its wings on our private fishing dock while you breakfast on the screened-in lanai. Hear the fish splash in the canal. Catch-and-release bass or bluegill off our private dock (No license required). Notice the palms swishing in the ever-present breeze, thanks to the nearness to the ocean, which makes both summer and winter enjoyable. Besides the heated pool (85 degrees) and hot tub (103 degrees), the lanai has three tables for dining, plus a double swing, lounge chairs for sunning, and a 4 burner gas grill. It's hard to leave the spacious lanai and our quiet neighborhood, but there's much to do in Sebastian or nearby Vero Beach or Melbourne. Uncrowded sandy beaches are just a few miles away.

The history of Sebastian with sunken Spanish treasure, though little known, is fascinating. Environmental Centers up and down the coast tell the stories of loggerhead turtles, manatees, dolphin, alligators, birds and feature hiking trails. Orlando attractions are only 90 miles away and an easy day trip. Bring your swim suits and we'll supply beach towels and all linens and bedding.

NO pets or indoor smoking allowed.

About Merilyn Hamburg

Owners are a former university professor and a retired military officer originally from Pennsylvania who now make their primary residence in Northern Virginia.

Merilyn Hamburg purchased this house in 2012

Why Merilyn Hamburg chose Sebastian Highlands

We were attracted to Indian River County due to the centralized location on Florida's east coast. The constant ocean breeze refreshes us. Sebastian in particular has an interesting history dating back to 1715. The locally owned, not national chain, restaurants provide excellent dining opportunities. We are close enough (12 miles to Vero Beach and less than 30 to Melbourne) to larger metropolitan areas to partake of all they have to offer without having to live in congestion. You may even see the plumes of rockets when they launch from the Kennedy Space Center.

What makes this house unique

We love that the house has cathedral ceilings, elevated niches, all tile or laminate floors, and the largest lanai we've seen. The rooms all are light and airy allowing plenty of sunlight. We were impressed with the canal location and the many birds visible throughout each day.

Second Time Is Still Charming

  • 5 of 5

We have shared this house with another couple each of the last two years. It is a very quiet neighborhood. The furnishings are comfortable and the lanai and pool make this a perfect retreat. It is less than 10 minutes to the center of Sebastian and 20 minutes to Vero Beach. A great base!

Great place to stay in Sebastian Florida.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this lovely home exceeded our expectations. The place was spotlessly clean, and included everything you could conceivable need or use during your stay. That included bicycles, fishing poles, and a wonderful heated pool. The owners also took the time and effort to provide a detailed binder in the kitchen, that included where to obtain groceries, public park locations, local restaurants, and lots of other very useful information. Sebastian is a great place to visit, and I would definitely take this rental again in a heartbeat. You won't be disappointed!!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your great review and for mentioning that you used the white binders. We try hard to keep that information up to date, and we always wonder if people make use of it. Glad your stay was so good. Come again. Merilyn and Bob

Everything you could hope for and more!

  • 5 of 5

This home was everything you could hope for and more. From the moment we walked in the front door there was a Zen calmness that took over us and whispered "let the vacay begin"! My family truly had a home away from home experience. We have family who live nearby in Vero Beach and we actually ended up hosting Christmas Day dinner! The home was so well appointed that we did not have to buy any cooking utensils. The home was tastefully decorated, immaculate and in a very quiet neighborhood. Oh, and the fishing dock was such a hit with my husband. He caught a couple nice size fish and of course we posted on Facebook. Bob and Merilyn were very responsive to questions from the initial booking to check out. We are looking forward to a second visit hopefully in the very near future.

Our family had an amazing time at Seaglass Sojourn! What a beautiful home and the views from the canal were such a treat. We loved the pool so much, it was the perfect size for all of us to have a great time and lots of memories. We loved the books and games that were at the house as well, and I ended up ordering one of the seaglass books for my daughter! We would definitely stay at this home in the future. Thank you to the owners Bob and Merilyn, I hope all is well.

Very lovely home.

  • 4 of 5

Home was great, clean and spacious. Pool and hot tub very enjoyable. However, after it rains there were hundreds of tiny bugs in the pool and no way to get them all out. Needless to say lAst two nights we couldn't use the pool. Only other issue would be pots and pans need updated.

Owner's Response: We always appreciate honest critiques so thanks for yours. It's been months since we've been at the house because I have had three very serious heart operations since November, but we hope to visit in August and will go through all the pots and pans. As for the ants, we called our exterminator immediately after you let us know, but he couldn't get there until after the weekend. Unfortunately, someone had torn the pool skimmer net to remove them, so we'll replace that too. Florida is pretty much an ant hill and when it rains a lot, sometimes they move into people places. We're sorry you missed two days of swimming, but hope the $200.00 refund we sent helps to make up for that. Merilyn

Whether you prefer sky-diving, deep-sea fishing, shopping or antiquing, water-side restaurants,or the ocean, you'll find plenty to do in this best kept secret in Florida. Pelican Island in Sebastian was our first National Wildlife Refuge. Stop in at Sebastian Inlet State Park to kayak or picnic while you watch the dolphins frolic. Explore the Indian River Lagoon and the St. Sebastian River. Just don't tell everyone or it may become overcrowded. If you're retired, vacationing, have relatives in the area, or just want to get away from it all, Seaglass Sojourn is the place for you.
