Overview

About the property

1 bedroom adobe on 5 acres 10 minutes from town . Refundable cleaning deposit.

Casita Dona Linda is an elegant, authentic adobe on five acres, surrounded by junipers and native grasses, nestled in Taos Canyon on the scenic Enchanted Circle drive - yet only 5 miles from historic Taos Plaza. Truly a four season experience, with vibrant spring and summer gardens, golden autumn cottonwoods, and snow covered pines in winter. The property has a private trail culminating in a canyon-view.

bench before it joins national forest. A rustic bridge crosses the Rio Fernando. A 1/3-acre pond reflects the landscape - except when the pet trout jump or the ice sparkles in winter.

Location:

Approximately 5 miles East from Taos Plaza, 18 miles to Angel Fire and 24 miles to Taos Ski Valley – on the Enchanted Circle byway. Very convenient to hiking, biking, snow shoeing trails and all the shopping, dining and culture Taos has to offer.

Amenities:

Beautiful outdoor setting with patio furniture and the backdrop of the Carson National Forest. Covered parking just outside the front door. Radiant heated saltillo tile flooring and a large kiva fireplace. Generous skylights set between high ponderosa ceiling vigas accent the softly curved mud plaster walls. Lots of closet space for storage. Washer/dryer available with iron and ironing board. Satellite Dish TV, wireless Internet and courtesy phone offered. Fenced-in, private, separate dog yard (shady, sheltered and fairly escape proof for the pooch!)

Baths:

One full with tub/shower, pedestal sink, bright skylight, cabinetry and custom tile work. Lots of towels and a hair dryer.

Kitchen:

Galley style: fully equipped with gas stove, double sink with disposal, refrigerator, coffee maker and bean grinder, blender, electric beater, microwave, large crock pot, toaster oven and an ample supply of dishes (crystal glassware), silverware and cookware. Custom cabinetry and tile create an efficient work place. Built-in desk great for computer stationing set-up. View of adjacent private patio, pond and pine covered hills.

Living/Dinning:

Curved kiva fireplace with raised sandstone hearth and adjacent adobe banco seating. TV, library (may be supplemented by owner’s collection) “Kennedy” oak rocker, two-love seat/sleeper couches, coffee table, ample lighting, Sheepskin rug. Navaho weaving and other art works.

Coved dining area with 4 chairs, round table and window views into the expanse of the pond and forested hills – good birding!

Bedding:

Total comfort! Queen – “Select Comfort” (individual firmness controls), ceiling fan, skylight, cross ventilating windows, dedicated room thermostat. Romero for clothing items. Close to bath. Down comforter, lots of pillows and bed linens provided.

Heating/ Cooling:

Radiant floor heat on two separate thermostats. Nice warm floors for winter! Kiva fireplace in living area. Thick adobe walls, trees, and cross ventilation keep it naturally cool in summer.

Sq. Ft.:

Approx. 800 sq. ft., in an open, well designed floor plan with softly curved mud plaster walls, skylights, solid natural wood and tile. Beautifully decorated and furnished. The casita is attached by a double-thick adobe wall to the owners’ home, which creates a quiet, private space to call your own. Sheltering front porch entry and latilla privacy fence along back patio.

Policies:

This is a non-smoking property. Dog friendly (sorry, no cats…..) with Dog Guidelines attached to contract. Maximum capacity 4. This home is a good fit for adults and older children. Due to the 8 ft. deep pond and also the delicate, mud plaster interior walls it may not be advisable for young children.

Deposit and Cancellation:

$150 fully refundable cleaning/damage deposit.

No reservation refund. Trip insurance has worked well for those anticipating the need.

Seriously beautiful property.

  • 5 of 5

What a serene spot. I was a little concerned about the location being too far away from Taos, but the drive is beautiful and less than ten minutes depending on where you are going.

I was also a little concerned that the casita was adjacent to the owner's home. We wanted a quiet spot to ourselves. We still got that and more. Linda is so kind and the only time we saw her was when she was working in your multiple gardens out front. Most of the other times, we thought we were the only ones on the property. The casita's patio is screened from the main part of the house and although you are welcome to use their back yard, there is no need. The pond is lovely and our afternoon ritual was feeding the trout.

You can hear the water flowing in the stream and the private hiking trail up the back of their property (backing up to the Carson National Forest) is steep but easily manageable.

Accommodations were spotless. The casita has one queen size bed and two twin size convertible sofas. The living area is spacious.

The hosts are totally unobtrusive but will offer suggestions of dining and activities if asked. Linda did tell us about a spectacular secondary road drive that I would highly recommend (if you have a truck or SUV).

We will rebook this spot!

Excellent getaway

  • 5 of 5

The casita was perfect for what we wanted. It was clean, in a truly beautiful setting, well decorated, a great little kitchen that was perfect for cooking, a great layout, it was just a great place to relax and to work - it was a perfect three days. The wifi is excellent and we used it also for cell service, which was perfect.

Nice and clean

  • 4 of 5

The only reason my husband and I would probably not return is because we desire a bed larger than the double bed that we had.

Owner's Response: Our amenities description includes "One Queen size Sleep Master bed with dual firmness controls, king pillows and down comforter. Two love seats in the living room open into beds. Custom linens, king pillows and polar arctic blankets." I regret that this guest did not see the description or ask about the size of the bed when I made my customary personal phone call to inquire if there were any questions. We try very, very hard to provide the perfect experience, as our 100 five star reviews indicate. This four star review hurts.
