A village colonial, built in 1870, our home is located in the Woods Hole Historical District, overlooking the harbor. It is a warm and comfortable home, casual, with original art and sturdy antiques. There are four spacious, renovated bedrooms, air conditioned, three renovated bathrooms and a modern, up-dated kitchen with Viking gas stove, Bosch dishwasher and Sub-zero refrigerator. The front of the house has lawn and gardens and a very large 3-season wrap-around porch, part screened, part open, and looks out at the harbor. The master bedroom, also new, looks onto a large terrace, beyond which lies a lovely 34'x9' swimming pool with its own smaller terrace, gardens, and beautiful view of parkland and wooded hills. Adjacent to the larger terrace is an outdoor shower and hot tub, as well as a gas grill.

About Anne Kent
Long-time Massachusetts residents, we live full-time in Woods Hole, enjoying each and every season.
Anne Kent purchased this House in 1998
Why Anne Kent chose Woods Hole
Years ago our family spent summers in Woods Hole as part of the scientific community. We fell in love with Woods Hole and when we finished teaching we couldn't bear to leave!
What makes this House unique
Unique benefits of this home and location are innumerable: walk to beach, village center and bike path; the house and gardens are lovely, the pool allows swimming from April through October, and the morning walk along the beautiful harbor to get that first cup of coffee at Pie in the Sky is such a pleasure!

A very different experience than other reviewers - left after one night
We were so excited to stay in this home for our family vacation with our young children. Based on the positive reviews, we were shocked when we arrived and quickly realized that the cleanliness of the home was unacceptable - so much so that we chose to leave. The overwhelming smell of mildew hit us as soon as we approached the front door. After only a few hours in the house, my daughter, who has mild allergies, could barely breathe, and the rest of us were queasy. When we expressed how upset we were to Anne, she simply blamed "the hot, humid days of Woods Hole" and asserted that "my house is as damp as any other house (...) in Woods Hole now, with the probable exception of those with central air conditioning." We have rented throughout the Cape, and while we understand that some dampness, especially during humid weeks, is expected, this went way beyond what could be considered acceptable.
There were many other issues, including but not limited to: missing smoke detectors, dust throughout the home (not just a bit on surfaces, but cobwebs on the floors, around furniture and light fixtures), filthy window screens, the fridge and a cabinet needed to be cleaned before putting away groceries, the silverware drawer was dirty. A sliding door to the patio did not lock. Maybe this is not an issue there, but we weren't comfortable having the house open at all times, especially with young kids and a pool. And while the pool was nice, there was rusted and broken furniture throughout the yard. We would have overlooked any of these examples, but the sum total was too much.
We are so disappointed with Anne's response. She noticed us packing to leave and came over, speaking briefly with my husband before returning to a home across the street. We went over shortly after to return the key, and she did not answer the door. We have contacted her several times, and beyond her initial notes defending the cleanliness and dampness of the home, she has ignored our messages. While we did not expect to receive back the full amount we paid, we hoped that she would meet us in the middle and offer some refund. We also have not yet received notice that she has returned our refundable security deposit, even though it has been two weeks since our (very brief) stay.
Our decision to leave was incredibly difficult - this was intended to be our family's big summer trip. In all of our many VRBO rentals, we have never had such a negative, disappointing and frustrating experience.
I happily introduced myself and welcomed your husband upon seeing him in the driveway. He said right away, “ I was about to call you. We are leaving because our daughter cannot tolerate mildew and mold. She is upstairs on the bed in front of the fan.” I expressed my concern but that is the last I heard of her distress.
Your subsequent writings
say nothing of your daughters distress. Instead several minor and quickly fixable items were written repeatedly (while asking for a refund) making the “beautiful house” and “beautiful pool” sound like a vacationers’ nightmare. For the record , our house can be humid in the summer but is
not moldy or mildewed.
Your arrival occured during a period of unremitting heat and humidity on Cape Cod.
My house, as with every other house without central air was hot and damp. A person sensitive to these conditions would be uncomfortable. I was and am very sorry your daughter fell ill. Your attempt to write with hyperbole about our property instead of discussing your daughter’s discomfort as the problem seem, disappointedly, like a blatant attempt for a refund.

Great Vacation...HANDS DOWN!
Our stay at Anne's wonderful and unique house included 3 couples with varying expectations. It is safe to say that our experience was hands down the best. The house had plenty of room to spread out and not feel on top of each other. The pool of course was the best feature which we spent every day by it. The town was just two blocks away and was ready for dinner or drinks if we didn't feel like cooking. Anne was always nearby and available with any questions we had.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed the house, the pool and Woods Hole so much! You left the house looking wonderful. Please come back some day!
Large beautiful home blocks from everything would go back in a heartbeat!
Recently my family consisting of 3 generations stayed at this beautiful home. The first floor was perfect for the grandparents one of which is handicapped, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and living room access. The side and backyard were perfect with a fire pit, hot tub, pool, grill, and plenty of room for all to sit and enjoy. Anne was very nice and answered all questions quickly and gave suggestions for dinners out. We were able to take a ferry to Martha's Vineyard, explore the area, beaches and aquarium all within minutes from this home. Wouldn't hesitate to go back, everyone ages 17-78 enjoyed this home and area.
Wonderful location and pool
My family of 18, one year old to seventy-four with several young children, rented Anne's house and another home two doors away for a family reunion. We had a wonderful time. The perfect location allowed us to walk everywhere: beach, ferry to Martha's Vineyard, playground, ice cream shop, aquarium, excellent restaurants. The house is a real beach cottage, very large and unpretentious, with several areas where groups can gather as well as plenty of private spaces to read or relax. The best things by far, however, are the back yard and pool. Our children loved the pool which was child friendly and we spent hours chatting around it while they swam.
Classic woods hole house on a beautiful street with a beautiful view.
Handled two families and three friends with no problem. Spent our rainy days on the covered porch and sunny days in the beautiful garden!
The ultimate Cape Cod experience, without any pretense
We loved our time at Anne's place and are already making plans to return this summer. Big spacious house near town, very close to beach, lovely outdoor eating area. Wood's Hole is magical and so is this house!
Coffee shops, sandy beaches, tennis courts, a wonderful playground, churches, village shops, post office and library, and terrific restaurants are all within a five to ten-minute walk. Our immediate neighborhood, though, is almost country-like, peaceful and quiet. Best of both worlds!
In the southwest corner of Cape Cod, Woods Hole is near Martha's Vineyard and the Elizabeth Islands. Much of Woods Hole centers around the enclosed harbor of Eel Pond. A drawbridge at the mouth of the harbor allows boats to enter and exit the harbor
Our village is the site of several famous marine science institutions, including Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Marine Biological Laboratory, and the ferry between Cape Cod and the island of Martha's Vineyard, all accessible to visitors.
The local lighthouse (visitors welcome) at nearby Nobska Point has a view across the Nantucket Sound of Martha's Vineyard, and at its foot, a private sandy beach available for you to use. The Knob is another local destination: a rocky outcropping that overlooks beautiful sandy beaches in Buzzards Bay and Quisset Harbor, a Salt Pond bird sanctuary, and is open to visitors and their dogs.
The annual Falmouth Road Race brings world-class (and not) runners to Woods Hole in August each year
So, come to Cape Cod in New England, and enjoy a lovely Spring, Summer or Fall in our gorgeous and unique coastal village.
