“The Cottages,” eight newly finished in 2013 each feature two bedroom (including loft) sleeps 4. An open floor plan gives the kitchen, dining and living room area a comfortable, roomy feeling. All cottages are sprinkled with vintage elements (vintage lighting, Big Chill retro appliances, furnishings). Amenities include free beach cruisers, boogie boards, beach chairs, towels, vintage games. Relax by sitting on the front porch swing or enjoy the community barbeque/picnic tables area. Feel free to pick fruit off of the various fruit trees on the property (limes for those margarita’s of course).
Carpinteria is the perfect California town that still feels like a step back into the 1950’s. Shopping, groceries, restaurants are plentiful. Other beaches within 2 miles include Rincon - great for surfing along with Santa Claus Lane where you can rent surfboards, paddle boards and other beach items.
Could this be your favorite alternative vacation? A stress less car free (though auto’s are welcome) holiday from northern or southern California (or the east coast) by train (or fly to Burbank, CA and take Burbank Airport Amtrak) to Carpinteria, CA –“World’s Safest Beach.” Arrive at our local train stop located just 100 yards away. Enjoy the slower pace of Carpinteria - “The Cottages,” located 4 short blocks to the beach and a block and a half from main (Linden) street. Need to see more on your holiday? Train or local bus can take you north to Santa Barbara (10 miles) or south to Ventura(12 miles) dropping you off within walking distance of both downtown areas.
The perfect vacation for families, young couples, retirees (ADA accessible), as well as all families; a great spot for family reunions.

After spending 27 years in a different (apparel) industry, this project looked like a fun challenge to create memories and enjoyment for many generations down the road.
Lisa purchased this cottage in 2010
As soon as I saw this property, I knew that this is what I wanted to do. Though I couldn't save all of the 6 sad cottages, could I bring it back to its happier days?
A project that I hoped would inspire developers to respect land and community, have lots of sustainable features, be efficient with space and avoid overbuilding properties because they can. A place where people who appreciate simplicity would love to stay and leave with great memories.
Completed in 2013, the property includes two “saved” 1955 houses and 6 new personality plus one bedroom (sleeps 4) cottages. A project with splurges on the right things (the best windows, ceiling fans, wood doors, appliances…) with a philosophy that bigger is not better. These have the latest sustainable materials (tankless water heaters, flooring's, exterior materials, toilets, lighting…) yet feel authentic to its past life with original vintage accents .
Porch swings, beach cruisers, picnic tables, swaying palm trees, fruit trees (limes for the drinks of course) - everything you would want on the perfect vacation.
Enjoy exploring Carpinteria.
Beyond my expectations and worth the splurge. Was here for the first sea glass festival. Worked all day and came back to totally relax. Quality and modern place with high end cottage style decorative items and fabulous woodwork throughout. Fabulous porch area with nearby BBQ, bikes, etc. to use. Conducive to meeting neighbors if you want. Almost better than being on the beach (easy 10 min walk to beach and 2 minute walk to town). I will be back!

From the minute we pulled into the driveway we knew this was going to be special. And it was. With great attention to detail and a fun sense of whimsy, our cottage was ideal for a three night beach experience. Clean, comfortable, updated and cool. We felt very at home. The location could not have been better too. Could not recommend this highly enough.
Our stay at the Carpinteria Cottages was the absolute best luck I have had in a very long time! My daughter's wedding was fast approaching (they live in Carpinteria) and the crazy mix of family coming to town from all around the world plus the emotion of the wedding was making it more and more important to me to have a quiet and peaceful yet fun place to stay. I had decided the local motels were just not very special and I needed a measure of privacy in which to host the wedding-related events. Lisa was fabulous and so helpful. I can't wait to return!!
My daughter and I were charmed by this picturesque and hip mini neighborhood and by the town of Carpinteria! The cottage neighborhood is a time warp to another time and place. Our cottage was well appointed and so lovely and restful we didn't want to leave! Roomy, open floor plan, ocean inspired happy colors, clean quality finishes, modern, working kitchen with retro appliances: the whole place is skillfully designed with an artistic eye, and no detail is left out. So much personality and thoughtful design sensibility, when you stay here you know you've really been someplace!
We just returned from a four day stay in lovely cottage #5. It was exactly what we were looking for in a beach weekend. We could walk to everything-shops, beach and great restaurants. The grounds are beautiful and each cottage is more charming than the next. It has a very relaxed indoor outdoor vibe, it reminded us of the small towns we love to visit when we travel to Hawaii. It was great to be able to use the complimentary beach chairs, umbrellas and towels.
The kitchen had an open feel with great workspace and appliances. We loved having our own washer and dryer. The house accommodated the four adults in our group very well. There was also enough room for entertaining family and friends that live locally. Lisa (property manager) was so easy to work with and always responded to emails and questions very quickly. It was really nice to know she was there in case she was needed, but at the same time not overbearing like you sometimes find with boutique hotels. We very much enjoyed the privacy and relaxing atmosphere.
We cant wait to return.
I just got home from staying in one of these lovely cottages. We were in Carpenteria for a wedding, and loved our stay. Every detail was perfectly thought out, from the modern retro kitchen to the tiled bathroom, to the charming front porch swing.
We can't wait to come back and stay longer! Thank you for making our stay so memorable.
