Our home is located approximately 18 miles from one of the Finger Lakes most beautiful and diverse cities, Ithaca, NY. We are located one mile off of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. Visit the Ithaca, Buttermilk, Treman, or Taughannock Falls; tour the Cornell Plantations or enjoy some wine or micro-brewery tastings. In downtown Ithaca you will find an outdoor pedestrian mall with plenty of restaurants, cafes and specialty shops.
My husband and I have lived about 10 miles from our cottage since 2001. My husband grew up in Dryden, NY and I fell in love with the water while growing up on Long Island. We are both graduates of Cornell University and we worth together in a family business in Ithaca. Neither of us have found a place that we would like to live more than our beautiful Finger Lakes region.
Catherine Ross purchased this house in 1978
Our lake home has been in our family for over 4 decades. Throughout that time family members have created and help maintain a vacation destination where people can enjoy each others' company while surrounded by beauty. Once a mostly seasonal cottage, our parents had an expansive addition built in 2000. They lived full time at this wonderful home until they decided to downsize in 2008. At that time my husband and I volunteered to maintain the home. We have lived just 10 miles from our cottage since 2001 and own a long standing business in Ithaca. We are thrilled that the option of offering vacation rentals helps us to keep this very special place in our family. After five years of vacation rental and enjoying countless glowing guest comments, I know many people feel the same way about our home.
This home holds wonderful memories for my family - holidays and summer get-togethers with all the cousins playing in the lake, fishing off the dock, adults relaxing, grilling a great meal to share, enjoying the heavenly sunsets, and making s'mores over a bonfire.
Each member of our party was EXTREMELY impressed with the property. We felt that the pictures posted on the website did not do justice to the beauty of the home.
We had a great time in your wonderful house and especially enjoyed the lovely sunset on the lake. Given the various sleeping arrangements, it was an ideal place to gather for a weekend with family and friends from out of town. The house was exactly as described and in tip-top condition. We instantly felt at home and would definitely come back!
We did not have great weather, but it was still a wonderful weekend thanks to a beautiful home that is perfect for a family gathering. The house is ideal for entertaining a large group, but offers a lot of privacy, as well. Anyone who likes to cook will be delighted by the kitchen and with the proximity to Wegman's, an incredible grocery store in Ithaca. My kids all want to come back next summer when they can use the kayaks and enjoy more outdoor activities. This house did not disappoint in any way!!
This property offers everything needed for a relaxing, comfortable stay by the lake. The home was very clean, the kitchen had everything necessary, there was plenty of room to spread out and the view was spectacular. It is easy to enjoy the lake on the dock, rent a boat, build a campfire along the shore, or sit on the deck just above the dock.
The bedrooms are huge and offer a sanctuary of privacy and comfort. There are two decks to enjoy. One overlooks the lake and the other has a hot tub and several grills to make preparing meals quite convenient. The driveway provides plenty of off street parking (we had 2 suvs and a large pickup truck). We noticed that many of the other houses on this road do not have adequate parking.
King Ferry winery is about a mile away and we enjoyed a wonderful evening playing cards (bring your own), sipping wine, laughing and listening to the live entertainment. We rented a boat from Finger Lakes Boat Rentals and found their prices most reasonable and the owners are great.
If the site allowed, I would give this property 4.5 stars. The only half star deduction is that the house does not have a half bathroom to share. It was only a minor inconvenience that will not deter us from visiting this home again.
The owner was a pleasure to work with and very responsive. The home is exceptionally well maintained and she is very accommodating.
We had a group of 8 adults and each of us highly recommend this property for your stay.
Gorgeous home in a beautiful location! WIFI wasn't stellar, but we knew that going in. That's part of being away from it all!! Certainly a great place to relax! Thanks, Kathy!!
This house is a comfortable and "easy" retreat. The setting is beautiful, the house is spacious and well equipped. The website has a detailed list of ammenities that is spot on! This makes planning your stay very easy. Kathy pays attention to detail and is conscientious about meeting the needs of her guests. A wonderful spot to gather.
Fantastic trip! The house is designed for multiple families to stay with each room having its own bathroom, great room attached to the kitchen and large screened in porch with plenty of seating.
Looking forward to going back again next year!
Note: We are booked for Cornell graduation 2016 & 2017 and IC graduation 2016. Located conveniently between Ithaca and Aurora, our lake front home is a wonderful spot for family and friends to get together and relax. Our home is popular for families of Cornell, Ithaca College, and Wells College students to stay while in town for sports events, concerts and visits during the academic year. In the summer, guests love strolling through our gardens, swimming and kayaking from our beach , enjoying our beautiful views, and taking advantage of our proximity to wineries on the Cayuga Wine Trail. While in the area, don't miss Buttermilk Falls, Robert H. Treman, or Taughannock State Parks.
