Carlos purchased this house in 2016

Why Carlos chose San Miguel de Allende

This property provides the true flavor of living in a Mexican neighborhood. It's surrounded by family homes, markets and local taquerias, while minutes away from La Parroquia and El Jardin. I always enjoy morning coffee on the roof top and meeting my neighbors.

Barrio Casita Hermosa

  • 4 of 5

I loved staying in the Mexican neighborhood of Casita Hermosa. First thing in the morning, I would open the front door - still having the locked metal gate - and Mexico would pass by: a few roosters crowing, the children in their uniforms, knee socks, chattering and laughing on their way to school; mothers walking by with their children; and the music, always beautiful music wafting in the air; an occasional motorcycle and truck with its bullhorn advertising something. On the corner there is a Pollo Feliz, which indeed made me happy! On the way to Pollo Feliz, you will pass several small local stores where you can buy, say, one egg, or one roll of toilet paper. If you keep walking about three blocks past Pollo Feliz, on the right, you will run into a wonderful bakery. It is every bit as good, if not better, than the famous Blue Door in Centro. I will mention that I am a senior and found the walk into Centro a little much, but then I never truly did it, so I can't really say. I started out one day and then said, "Oh, Why?" The taxis are about $2.50 U.S., and being so near the large mercado there are many coming and going. I have read all the reviews on Casita Hermosa and concur with all. Being by myself in the casa for most of my stay, I always felt safe. I was amazed, with all the activity going on during the day, by 9 pm and for sure by 10 pm, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Except, of course, for the occasional barking dog that is in every neighborhood.

All the people associated with Casita Hermosa, Charles, Home Solutions, are so nice; totally and quickly responsive to any request, inquiry. If you truly want to feel the Mexico vibe, I highly recommend Casita Hermosa.

Nice House and Great Management

  • 5 of 5

My aunt and I rented the home in Oct/Nov. It is a cute house in a Mexican neighborhood within walking distance of the main tourist areas. However, we generally took at cab there for 35 pesos as it was mostly uphill and on way back we would walk. We felt completely safe in the neighborhood and it was not noisy at all compared to my home in Ajijic! There were kids playing outside our doors until around 9pm but after that it got really quiet. The beds were fairly firm but comfortable. The internet was fast enough for skype and watching videos. It did not reach the roof and struggled at times in the bedrooms but downstairs is fine.

My aunt got quite ill our first week there and I emailed the owner/manager and they returned my email in less than half an hour and suggested an English speaking doctor who came to the house within hour. Later they called to check up on her which was certainly appreciated and thoughtful.

This is a great house for someone who doesn't need to be right downtown or is on a tighter budget. I highly recommend this property!

Beautiful budget house, great location

  • 4 of 5

This house is very well furnished, decorated and equipped.

Spaces are cozy and well sized. The terrace is very beautiful.

The area is not as nice as downtown, but it is a quiet and safe area. It's a 10 minute walk from the Cathedral and main garden. Many services are a block or two away: market, store, parking, , beauty salon, and a couple restaurants.

Having two rooms and 1.5 bathrooms was extremely convenient for our stay. There are several sheets and towels available. There is also convenient services like washing machine, soap, and bottled water.

I would definitely recommend this place to stay.

Economical and convienient

  • 4 of 5

We spent 4 weeks at Casita Hermosa, found it as described and pretty much agree with the other reviews. The neighborhood was safe and convenient to local markets which have just about everything you could want. A walk of 15 minutes would get you to the Jardin in the center of town. The kitchen is nicely equipped including a six-burner stove and oven, full-sized refrigerator, appropriate small appliances, and a nice table which seats four. There is also a washing machine. The bedrooms on the second floor are a nice size with plenty of storage space, the beds quite comfortable and the ceiling fans eased sleeping. The rooftop terrace was a delight in the morning for coffee and in the evening for a nice bottle of wine with a good view of SMA and the surrounding mountains. There are plenty of restaurants in SMA with all different price ranges, SMA may be a dining mecca. Both Carlos and Erika were helpful and attentive. While not fancy or luxurious, the space is mostly comfortable and at a bargain of a price. If you are looking for economical digs in SMA, this may be the place for you.

Casita Hermosa

  • 5 of 5

Many others have adequately described the physical layout of the casita. We were there in January 2014 and indeed the nights were a bit chilly. They have installed a gas heater in the downstairs fireplace which provides some comfort to the downstairs living area but we only used it once as the casita seemed to be comfortable enough without. They also had a heater in the larger bedroom but we never used it as the room was very comfortable without.

The things we liked about the casita was it's location, cleanliness, its well stocked kitchen, very comfortable bed, the closed in glass stairwell to the upstairs terrace which brought a lot of light and heat to the second floor bedrooms and the terrace itself where we enjoyed all our breakfasts and late afternoon drinks enjoying the view. We were able to walk to the downtown area in about 10 minutes and bus service was just a minute away for those that would prefer not to walk. We were able to meet some of the Mexican neighbours who were very friendly and helpful. There are many stores /market to buy food within a minutes walk.

Some of the minor inconvienences included the downstairs being a bit dark with only one window in the living room and stark ( maybe more light would make it more comfortable?), the stairs to the second level are a bit steep, narrow and curvy so they may not be suitable to everyone and the kitchen sink did not have a plug ( we commented to Erika who sent a plumber up but it never did get resolved) They should at least have a plastic tub to hold the water.

I would also like to comment on how helpful Carlos was before and during our stay. One couldn't expect more and even though we didn't meet him personally he gave one he feeling that he really cared that we had a pleasant experience.

I would summerize by saying it is a great value and I would recommend to others.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the compliments, Don. We have corrected some of the problems, which fortunately were all minor. Casita Hermosa is truly a slice of the real Mexico!

A sweet little casita

  • 5 of 5

Casita Hermosa is a lovely, well maintained, well appointed three floor(counting the quaint roof top terrace) casita in the very Mexican neighbourhood of San Rafael. It is a 10 minute walk to the Jardin and a 2 minute walk to the wonderful San Juan mercado.Although there are the many sounds of Mexico nearby(barking dogs, crowing roosters, etc.) it is not a problem and really makes you feel you are in a truly Mexican place.Erika the property manager speaks wonderful English and could not be more helpful or friendly.Carlos who arranged the rental was also most helpful. All in all Casita Hermosa is a terrific and affordable place with lots of modern conveniences and a wonderful neighbourhood ambience in the magical town of San Miguel de Allende.Recommended!!
