Overview

About the property

2 Bed 2 Bath home in nature, close to trails, close to the creek, close to town!

Just steps to Deer Creek and the Tribute Trail trailhead for all the hiking or mountain biking that abounds out of the front door. You're a gorgeous 10-12 min walk (approx 3/4 of a mile) into the historic gold rush town for morning coffee, afternoon shopping or an evening concert or play. Enjoy the best of both worlds, with nature and culture steps away.

The master bedroom has a queen size memory foam bed and ensuite bathroom. Enjoy a soak in the tub meant for 2! The second bedroom has a full bed with a pillow top mattress. The sofa in the living room folds out into a queen size bed. Curl up on one of the many window seats or take in fresh air on the decks. Listen for the sound of the rushing creek. The home is elegantly appointed with rustic elements and timeless charm.

The driveway is steep and curvy, but our little Prius has always made it up just fine.

About Hillside Haven

We (Rick and Amy) are from the Bay Area and have been getting away to Nevada City since we discovered it in 2014. After several visits to this beautiful historic gold rush town we decided it was time to commit to spending more time here.

Hillside Haven purchased this house in 2016

Why Hillside Haven chose Nevada City

Once we decided to buy a home in Nevada City we went in search of beauty, proximity to town, and immersed in nature. After searching through several properties we settled on this little haven. The windows and the way the home blends into the hillside, the woodwork, and trees charmed us. We are close to town, but far enough away that we don't hear traffic or worry about parking. We love walking across the street to the creek. Ask and we'll tell you about the secret swimming hole we discovered! We are in the process of updating the home and having a lot of fun along the way. We hope you enjoy!

Disappointing place

  • 2 of 5

Cute house inside, but it has no working air conditioner and there are were no screens on upstairs windows, making it unbearably hot for a June stay. The two bedrooms are upstairs but the only shower is downstairs.

Owner's Response: Hi Scott, I'm sorry to hear you weren't perfectly comfortable in our home. During your stay some of the screens might have been out for repair, but presently we do have screens on all of the windows and fans in all of the rooms. Opening the windows at night gives a nice cooling cross breeze. The marble tub upstairs does have a handheld shower head, and the bathroom downstairs has a full shower. We've had many guests stay throughout the summer who have enjoyed the property immensely, and I hope you'll consider giving us another try with the added improvements since your last stay. Best regards, Amy

Newish house, well-located across from an excellent hiking area, just a short walk to town

  • 4 of 5

The house is on a hillside, not in view of any neighbor, and across the street from an excellent hiking area. The hosts provide Wifi and Netflix streaming.

The kitchen is well-appointed and modern. The eating area functions well though lacks charm and is a bit dark.

Both bedrooms are well-sized with a very comfortable mattress. The master bath has a lovely counter and sinks and a beautiful big tub; however, the only shower is downstairs.

The heat works quickly and is straight-forward. A chair or two for outside or for the enclosed entryway would be nice.

The driveway is steep but our Prius got up it. The car's rear end may scrape depending on which direction you approach from. Ample parking. It is very quiet at night.

Well-recommended and the hosts are very helpful.

Owner's Response: Hi James, We're glad you and your guests enjoyed your stay. You got the first sunny weekend between snow and rain storms! We have since set out patio furniture, a grill and a hammock, so we hope you can come back and enjoy the outdoor amenities. Best, Hillside Haven

Hiilside Haven

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely home situated in the woods close to downtown Nevada City. The house was quite comfortable and conveniently situated for our local excursions. The owners were very helpful in answering questions and providing suggestions for eating locations, etc. We would definitely stay here again the next time we are in the area.
