About Greg Sumner

Owned mutually by 4 siblings who live in four different cities and 2 countries- but rest assured, we'll be there for all your needs! We all love to 'come home' periodically and relax and re-connect with our siblings. One sibling, Greg, lives nearby and he is the one that does all the bookings and deals with enquiries.

Greg Sumner purchased this house in 1975

Why Greg Sumner chose Southern Gulf Islands

Our parents built this charming home in 1975 for their retirement and upon their passing we all had such pleasant times and memories of Salt Spring that we decided we should allow others to experience the unique warmth and rest of Allison (our dear mother) House as it became known.

We have kept the name in her honor.

What makes this house unique

Amazing views of the Gulf Islands, Mt. Baker off in the horizon - the quiet serenity of living in the forest. Walking distance (2 miles) or a short car trip from the largest village (Ganges) on the island.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Salt Spring Island Alison House

  • 4 of 5

The house we booked "Alison House" on Salt Spring was a perfect fit for our family stay. The house was clean, spacious and well stocked with everything we needed. We loved the view from the patio of Active pass and Long Harbour as we relaxed and visited watching the ferries come and go. The owner was accommodating and gracious. Would stay here again if we ever come back.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words Marlene. I'm glad that our home could be a gathering place for your family wedding weekend and that you were able to relax and enjoy the views despite the busyness of the weekend. It was no problem to open up the fifth bedroom (suite) in the basement to provide an extra place for your brother and sister in law at late notice. I'm glad we could accommodate you and that you had a memorable time. Come again when you're not so busy with a family wedding. Greg (owner)

Serene and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

There is not a day since our stay that I haven't reflected on our trip to Salt Spring Island and wished that I was back there looking out the living room window at the gorgeous view! The beds were comfortable and the kitchen adequately equipped. We had a wonderful family reunion and enjoyed the island and all it has to offer. The farmers market, restaurants, winery, brewery, shops, charter boats and hiking trails are all an easy drive from this home. There were a few things worth mentioning that were unexpected but we managed: The driveway was difficult but we learned to back in so we weren't backing onto a street blindly, the exterior of the house facing the water could use some hand rails, and the upstairs bathroom has a tub with shower however the wall is sloped so the only way to shower was to sit in the tub. The management was quick to respond to minor repairs and to refill the grill tank so we could enjoy our fresh caught salmon. All in all, we would come back.

Gorgeous, perfect, peaceful

  • 5 of 5

I arranged to stay here with my family for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. It could not have been more perfect. The house is both spacious and cozy. The views can't be beat. It's secluded, yet very convenient to town. We had a wonderful celebration, and I feel so fortunate to have found this place!

Mother's Day "Surprises"

  • 3 of 5

My sister, cousin & I booked this large home to surprise both our moms for a Mother's Day girls weekend away. It nicely accommodated all six of us, with an old English charm in this beautiful exposed wood home, and it truly has spectacular views. The stay was overall enjoyable; however, upon arrival at the house (1:45pm), it had no heat on and given the cold wet weather outside it was bone chilling. 3 hours after turning on the heat, and lighting the propane fireplace (no fan) we were still freezing, so I emailed the owner. By 8:30pm we were on the phone with Greg as he tried to talk us through fixing his boiler; it helped but not enough as we were all still wearing sweaters/hoodies to bed. Greg had mentioned that they had someone there to fix the boiler the week previous, but clearly that was not the case. The next day he asked if we could tinker with the boiler adjustments again but we were heading out for the day seeing the sights (market/wineries/cheese company etc). He also said he would try and send a handyman to fix it on the Saturday, but we are guessing he couldn't get anyone as we had a cold house upon our return. The heat registers in 2/3 upstairs bedrooms weren't working at all and neither were the foyer ones.

Also, the wifi would NOT appease anyone of the younger generations, or someone that needs to stay on the grid for work. Cell service on the island is very sketchy, but at the house LTE was strong.

Would definitely recommend this property again, BUT unless you have previous boiler experience, only during the warmer months (Late June-early Sept).

The island is approx. 22 miles long and 4-5 miles wide and named after the salt water springs at the islands' north end. Steeped in history, the ambiance is much like an English countryside with many local famous artists and skilled craftspeople holding open studio tours. A renowned local farmer's and craft market (not to be missed) every Saturday. Local vineyard tours & wine tasting as well as amazing goat cheeses and soap works- the list is endless!

The locals are almost too friendly!
