Nice Christmas Get Away

  • 4 of 5

It was large and roomy. Lots of light. There was room to walk our dogs. It was a relaxing place with TV movies and a great kitchen. It was a little bit hard to find the place in the dark but once we got there all went well.

Ok Stay, But Could've Been Better

  • 3 of 5

Apparently Keith the owner forgot we reserved the house. Within 20 minutes of our arrival and while we were having lunch outside, he walks in and tells us, 'You don't belong here!'. Not the welcome we expected. After I showed him my confirmation he still seemed surprised and confused. Dirty table outside, no paper towels in kitchen, and carpet in living area in desperate need of cleaning. IMO, not much cleaning by cleaning service is required if guests are asked to strip all beds of linens, run load of towels in washing machine, wipe down kitchen counters, load and run dishwasher, and sanitize hut tub. We attempted to comply anyway but dishwasher would not start and sanitizer tablets for hot tub were not found where instructed on instruction sheet, nor anywhere else inside or out. Contacted owner but received no response. Even left note for him and/or cleaning crew. We are midwesterners and don't have fancy tastes or high expectations but we do expect a clean rental and found this property a bit tired and worn. However, the hot tub was welcoming in the evening after long hikes in Yosemite and the sky full of stars were just amazing - not typically seen in the city we are from.

Beautiful views

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Knarly Oaks. The pictures are very true to the house, the furniture is a little dated but there is some great space in this house. The main bedroom is very large with an attached bath. The main living space was great for our family. The location is very private, with very nice outdoor space and some amazing views! One drawback was the pool got pretty full of dirt and sand during our stay and we were unable to get the pool cleaner to work.

We stayed in Mariposa as it was a very close drive to Yosemite. To get into the park the roads are a little curvy so be prepared to be in the car about 1.5 hours to get into the park and to a location to park and begin your tour of the area.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay. The pool sweeper is on a timer, and comes on 3 hours a day. You disconnected the hose, and moved it to an outlet not meant for the pool sweep, and rendered it inoperable during your stay. I moved it back when I discovered it when you departed. In general, email or call the owners if there are issues. We did note how the pool filters work in the house guide, but letting the owner know in case something is really broken is always appreciated.

Knarly Oaks pool house-- fair

  • 3 of 5

The property at Knarly Oaks was comfortable. The house had what we needed but I wish it had not offered the pool. I was quite embarrassed. I had friends traveling with me and the pool was green , the owner stopped by after our third day to tell me the brown sediment that covered the bottom of the pool was just rust and ok to swim in. Of course we did not. After seeing the condition of the pool, we did not even bother to open the spa/hot tub. We came to see Yosemite not to swim but I did pay for a house with a pool. It was very hot and swimming would have been nice after a long day.

The birds and wildlife on the property were beautiful. Hummingbirds, rabbits, deer, doves, big wild turkeys, squirrels. Viewing them eat from the bird feeders was fun.

The town of Mariposa is quaint, close by with plenty of places to eat. The ride up to Yosemite is steep and winding, only 35 miles but about an hour drive.

Owner's Response: Hi Adrienne, We were still trying to get the pool chemical balance back after the major wildfire that shut down power. We emailed you on your day of arrival that we would like to do daily pool maintenance, but you didn't respond back for 3 days. On that third day, you said you were a pool owner, and seem to understand the green color was from the metal content, we were adding metal control (Vitamin C) to balance, but also needed to bring the pH level up from all the smoke and ash,, but not to make the pool cloudy by adding too much pH control quickly. The metal control did clear up the pool in 2 hours as promised. Please respond to owners in a more timely manner on future stays. We would prefer not dictating to guest when we will do pool maintenance after a local disaster.
